Why the fuck are these things getting bigger and bigger each year?
>>
small trucks don't sell as well as mid-size/large trucks.

In some countries, small trucks are still made and sold however.
>>
Trucks were originally made for people who needed trucks. Nowadays trucks are made for people who need sedans.

Larger engine, better tow-rating, safety and so on

And you're also comparing a single cab to a crew cab...
>>
>>13966201

ausfag here.

I've got a sedan and a hyundai iload (which is pretty big for a regular sized van).

I fucking hate parking the iload and driving it in carparks/etc...

Why the fuck do soccer mums WANT to drive these gigantic pieces of shit that don't even fit into a regular garage?

>parking in the blazing hot ausfailian sun 24/7 365
>>
>>13966216

>Safety
>Everything else gets bigger too
>Safety factor doesn't change because things are proportionally similar

if anything, it makes everything else on the road that's older less safe to drive.

True, but when you want to mantain/increase load capacity while also having it still drive in an acceptable manner you kinda "have" to make it larger and more bulky

4WD vans like the VW Transporter are now starting to bite into the sales of pickups here

>>13966221
Very good point... Isuzu no longer sells a singlecab D-Max I believe, and neither does Ford with its Ranger.

Soon I'm guessing Toyota will follow suit and only offed extended-cab and crew cab
>>
>>13966241
Ford still makes a single cab Ranger
Isuzu makes a single cab D-Max
>>
>>13966220
In a car-to-car accident you want to have a bigger car than the other guy, because inertia.
>>
>>13966247

I wasn't able to find any pictures/options for that on both US official and Norwegian official so I assumed

They still offer those in the coconut republics?
>>
>>13966250
They aren't sold in murrica.
Yeah and pretty much most markets you can still get a bare bones pickups.
>>
>>13966253

Aight... I'll take a guess and say that they're discontinuing them here aswell due to the price-differnce from single to extended cab is so "small" for the norwegian market due to high wages that everyone would just buy the extended cab anyways

>>
>>13966253
My Chevy d-max only comes extended cab without the back seats and rubber floor mats. It is huge but still has a small interior compared to a full-size truck. The bed is 6inches shorter than a full size trucks "6 foot" bed. The Isuzu Colorado handles REALLY well compared to a full-size but its not as car like as an s10.
>>
>>13966266

Whats the absolute least for a HiLux?
Here the bare-bones single-cab without any options will run you $35 000, while an extended/extra cab will run you $36 000, and a double-cab is like at most $1000 more than the extended cab

So its a no-brainer that people here are now preferring the larger models
>>
>>13966289
Base 2WD Hilux starts around $23,000
Top spec Vigo/Invicible is $60k

Can't find any actual price on the top-model here. I put together a double-cab with all options and it came to $68 000, but thats with only two seats. If I was to register it with the rear seats it would go up to at least $96 000... for a damned HiLux
>>

Hiluxes were nevr small, but put that thing next to a new Hilux or the previous gen. They are massive in comparison

They're getting bigger because of safety shit. Because of bigger door cards, and bigger dashboard, the outer shell needs to be much more bloated if you want to retain the same cabin space.

I test drove all of the dual cab utes and the Isuzu was hands down the best of the bunch.
>>
>>13966201
Because one's a single cab with a metal tray and the other is a dual cab with cover over the bed you dumb cunt

When actually compared properly a modern hilux is only a little bit bigger than a 90s one, no where near dramatic as a corolla or similar.
>>

Wat, ford's website says the ranger has been phased out for a while.

I'd get the one pictured though.

>>
>>13966360
This. Out of all the company LVs I've nurtured, lived with, and abused, the Isuzu based pickups have been some of the better ones.
I loved the older 4M41 ML Tritons, but since they reverted back to the 4D56 a few years ago, they became peaky with next to no guts without the turbo spooled up. Haven't sampled one of the brand new Tritons though...
The Mazda/Ranger 5 cylinder diesel is a gem too.
>>
>>13966412
even with the 33 inch tyres the 3 litre turbo in the isuzu is plenty enough in my opinion, though it does need more lift and bigger tyres than that still.

>>
>>13966412
>but since they reverted back to the 4D56 a few years ago
They have an entirely new 2.4L diesel, now.
>>
Here's my timeline of greatest pickups.
50's - Ford Thames
60's - Peugeot 404
70's - Peugeot 504 Isuzu KB close second
80's - Peugeot 504 (Isuzu KB close second)
Early 90's - Isuzu KB
Late 90's Mitsubishi L200.

I stopped caring after 1997.

Isuzu and Peugeot always had the best non-turbo engines.

Why? Both my pick ups are old single cabs and besides awesome visibility backing up (if the rear window is not blocked out by shit in the box) I don't see any real values.

Being good with your mirrors and every new truck having a back up camera should make this point moot anyways.
>>
>>13966581

no low range, no transfer case unless you buy a manual.

so, its a rav4 pickup.
>>
The biggest single truck market in the world, doesn't actually want to drive a truck.

Twenty years ago and earlier, the modern truck owner would be in a coupe.

Yep, I'm aware. No idea what engine it is (guess it's all new), but it's an aluminium block... Not sure how I feel about that in a pickup.

It's all new, 4N1 series. The 4N15 powers the Triton pretty well from my experiencing. Loads of torque. I wouldn't worry about the aluminum block, the cylinder liners are steel.

They still sell single cab with the Hilux and Tundras, but due to lack of sales, 2016 Tacomas start of 3rd gen) will only offer extended and crew. I imagine Tundra will follow suit, at least in the states.

I was talking about the E83W. Bedford made actual trucks.
>>
The market is leading toward bigger utes with more leg room for rear passengers. All your old hilux, tf and RA rodeos, ford couriers etc. Were fatiguing as fuck for everyone (drivers and passengers) on long trips. A bigger ute with more sound dedening means it's as comfortable as your falcon/commodore on a trip and ( to a point) can replace the falcon/commodore as the big family sedan. This is a huge market. If you want a small ute get a mitsi triton
