Civic si is a good choice really. Rwd bandwagoners will trash it all day but with a remap and a little work itll pull well over 200hp and handle like a cat on carpet. Plus you dont really have to worry about it falling apart.

Gtis come cheap. MX5s come cheap but are not fast accelerators. They handle beautifully though.

Bmw 328is are pretty nice and can be pretty cheap.

I know civics are actually pretty decent when it comes to performance, but, I just never really liked them. Also, I really, really, want a rwd car. I wouldn't even take an awd, unless it was something like an impreza wrx or some other racer. Also, I've literally never driven a fwd car. I know they probably don't handle as bad as most people say, but, I really don't wanna take that risk. It also seems much easier to recover in a rwd car after making a mistake. Maybe thats just me though.

Infiniti G35, its fairly quick- ive gotten 7 second 0-60 in my 04 sedan. Its rwd so you can do mad skidz (it's very predictable and easy to control), and it handles exceptionally well for the price and size of it. Insurance isnt going to be terrible because it's a sedan, but the coupe is faster if your willing to put more money into it. It's also an infiniti and is basically a 350z/altima underneath so its pretty reliable. You can pick up an 03-05 sedan with just over 100,000 miles for 6-8 grand

I'd really like to recommend the miata and put in a turbo but if you're actually looking for straight line performance there are better cars for the money. Since I'm not an amerifat and know jackshit about muscle cars, I can't really give any recommendations aside from the foxbody meme.

Bmws dont hold value but dont be terribly afraid of reasonably high mileage. 250k and up me be getting a little hagard but anything in the 100s still has plenty of life in it and should be around your budget.
