Winter is coming - how are YOU preparing your car to handle the frosty weather?
>>
Fresh coat of fluid film underneath and slapped the snows on, shes ready.
>>
nothing because i dont live in a shit hole
>>
>>13940986
OP, your picture.
That's actually a really good idea, only problem is that I only have 1 inch screws... Do you think it would still work?

If you don't get snow, then your area is filled with huge bugs and shit skins.

Shit hole indeed.
>>
>>13941098
True
>>
>>13941098
oh it snows, just not that often and not enough for it to matter. or i can drive half an hour and have shit loads of snow, whatever

i hear russia is real nice this time of year
>>
Winter tires on wheels, windshield scraper in door pocket, car cover and bag of grit in the boot.
>>
>>13941012
Are you for real?
>>
>>13941755
yea, rookie mistake. 1 inch screws are pointless, need atleast 2 inch ones
>>
>>13942108

I figure nine inch nails work best.
>>
>>13941098
Basically. But I'll take it. I can't stand the winter. It is so depressing.

>tfw snow didn't keep nigs out of Chicago
At least it kept the New Yorkers away
>>
>>13942113
Yea, the edge really grabs the snow.
>>
the normal coolant in cars makes them run colder in cold temps so drain that shit out and put in water. it runs hotter than the shit coolant in the winter. itll help you keep warm in the colder months. good luck anon
>>
>>13942113
Flat head roofing style nails are probably the best because they are flat and the flat is quite big. screw heads are rounded which can induce slipping. I've always had the best of luck with roofing nails. It can be hard putting them in, but if you let all the air out first its pretty easy to get em in.
>>
>>13941098
Central Texas here, I beg to differ
>>
Why the fuck would you buy studded tyres when snow provides better grip?

My daily driver. First winter with it. Granted I'm in Texas, so I expect more ice than anything. Already got ice past two days, still have my summer tires on, kinda too lazy to get winter tires. Maybe I'm asking for a death wish.

how fugged am I bros. not going to be a DD just something on the weekends. don't have garage tho, just a small driveway. might just tarp it off during the Winter and call it a season.
>>
>>13944337
Myself, I do all my cars. The 1 gallon kit with gun is like 70 bucks on ebay, when I used it up I bought the 5 gallon pail since it's cheaper.

If you have an air compressor, jack stands and some time no reason to pay a shop to do it.

You must be new here.

>>13940986
What I do to prep for winter is drain half of my oil out of my engine and increase the air in my tires by 50%.
I feel this gives my engine higher temps to deal with the cold and my tires will have more traction.

Also whenever I drive over a patch of ice, I swerve violently to test the conditions of the road. This helps me gauge how slippery it is out there.
I've also noticed how snow gives you more traction. So I usually add about 15-20MPH whenever I drive in the snow.

Good luck out there!

>Robinson screws
I feel like someone who actually has a large number of those wouldn't believe this. I think they did it as a joke.
>>
>>13949314
you can make it work if you use shorter screws and insert from the inside then seal it with something like slime. honestly tho if you do that they are useless outside winter and for all the effort you might as well just use real studs
>>
>>13952537
they are standard wood screws in Canada. literally every retard has a jar of them sitting on a shelf

>>

Alberta, Canada here. Tonnes of shitskins. The snow does nothing.
>>
>>13953308
My dad put together a deck with stainless steel robertson, all the screws came out looking brand new about 10 years later, with just a handful stripped. I guess it comes down to material as well.
>>
>>13953283
you can thank the Brits for fucking over Robertson ensuring he would never license them again. Ford wanted to use them for cars which would have made Robertson the standard screw over philips but after getting fucked over Robertson insisted only he would manufacture them. as a result Ford didn't like that he couldn't have a guaranteed supply so he went with philips but Robertson were still used in Canadian produced vehicles

they have been catching on the US lately but it's pretty sad it's taken over a century all because of some dirty Brits
>>
>>13953331
wtf i never deleted my post, mods fucking around again?
>>
>>13953328
yeah I'm surprised they stick around, most end up in the ditch anyway. honestly it takes fucking years to learn how to drive during winter unless you grew up with it and even then there's still retards that can't seem to grasp it
>>
>>13940986
Haven't done shit seeing as I live in Seattle and whenever it snows, everything is closed.
>>
>>13953258
Anyone in the US would call those square's.
You see S2's used to mount cabinets.
And S1's used to couple cabinets.
Aside from that you really don't see them much.
Torx is more popular for decking the squares.
Electrical you see mainly slotted, the past ~20 years phillips has started coming to electrical.
Phillips is the gold standard of screws. They only strip if you're a fucking retard who doesn't know how to use a screw driver or gun.
>>
>>13941098
Washington here.
Where I live we get maybe one or two bad snow days a year. Never have to worry about it. Not infested with bugs or shitskins either.
>>
>>13953649

Are flatheads still used for anything the US?
>>
>>13953649

I mean one-stripe slotted, not flathead... sorry
>>
>>13953649
