How many normies do you think walked into Mazda dealerships, bought RX-8s or RX-7s with no clue what a rotary engine is, then proceeded to drive them like a normal car?

Some rotary go their whole life without being revved beyond 1/4 to redline
>>
A lot. That's why you can pick up a shit one for cheap, and then good examples can be pricey

I don't really have a suitable reaction image, so this will have to do. Imagine it's combined with disdainforplebs.jpg.

How many normies do you think walked into a Mazda stealership, bought an RX-8, and thought they were getting a fast sporty car?
>>
>>13940943
Probably equal to the number of people of who buy scion TCs expecting them to be fast. At least the RX-8 is actually FR and has an LSD. No excuse for making a car slower than the old model tho.

how many normies do you think walked into chebby dealerships, brought corvettes with no clue they are unreliable turds, then proceeded to have it explode 6 miles from the lot?

lol alphonse the mad man he has busta fangirls hating so much they think everyone who shit talks gm is him roflmao
>>
>>13940963
At least the Scion tC was only slightly slower than a RX-8.

While being $10,000 cheaper

>yfw Mazda wouldn't have sold so many of those turds if it wasn't for decent marketing and styling

>>13940963
implying a 2az-fe is worse than any stock rotary and I am a wanklefag to the core.

80% of owners, by guesstimation of how many beat to shit/automatic Rx8's i see on craigslist.
>>
>>13941023
I can see the appeal but was never really a fan of the old stingray corvette. The LS7 is a perfect engine in every way. And the widebody (GS/Z06/ZR1) C6 was one of the best designs GM has ever had. It was corvette enough looking, while still looking futuristic. The C5 is looking dated now, and the C7 is too futuristic.
>>
That 09+ RX8s are actually decent cars.
>>
>>13940900
Fuk if you're used having all power at the bottom why the fuck would you want the inverse?
>hurrr I stomp da pedal for 10 seconds
>>
Why didn't they just put a god damn turbo four cylinder in
>>
>>13941127
Because it would be a meme machine like the s2000

Better to have no torque and have a unique engine than no torque from a shitty 4banger.
>>
>>13941137
Literally the most logical statement I've ever seen regarding rotarys

out of spec valves, class action lawsuit, etc

lmao I can find 70 fucked RX8s on ebay any time I like
>>
I still want one... damnit... ><
>>
>>13940852
Enough to ruin their reputation.
>>
>>13941481
You can find 70 cases from any car that sold more than 1000, especially when talking hand built.
People fuck up all the time, hence only retards think having their car be built by a person is a good thing.

I work at a Mazda dealer, I can't tell you the amount of times a rotary comes in with no compression while it only has 20k kms. The tech asked them how they drive, they respond with "Shift at about 2.5k, I baby the motor" They're shocked when he says you have to redline it at least once everytime they drive it.
>>
>>13942535
I'm shocked that a Mazda dealer might have a trained rotary engine tech anymore. Those cunts are like golddust.
>>
>>13940900
Fortunately, it'll be a short life

>>13940852
Dropped into a Mazda deaership to pick up parts for mine not to long ago (Hey, it was onmy way home from work, and just buying an air and oil filter from the dealer was cheaper than paying carriage and shit on pattern parts). Ended up getting recall work done on my car while I was there, and spent time talking with someone who was actually trained on the RX8...

Apparently, all the decent owners know where to find the specialists, so the dealers tend to only see the poorly looked after ones that're already on their way to failing and only brought to the dealership when it finally grinds to a halt rather than when it actually needed to go. People who don't really know what they have.

Ukfag - Parked up in my city the other day in a big multi-storey (rx8 owner). Noticed on my level there was an R3, quite rare to see them around my neck of the woods. Anyway bought my ticket, put it in my car and as I was walking to the stairs I noticed the R3s drivers door was now open. So i walked over hoping to have a good old rotary spirit talk with the other enthusiast owner - no, it was a little dumpy faced middle aged woman out doing her shopping, she must of been about 4'8 had no idea about the car and probably thought i was going to car jack her. Anyway after telling her I was jealous of her "later model" i made my smiling waving exit.

bless them.
>>
>>13940852
I'm going to guess that was at least 80% or more.

The tc is just a speedy camry marketed to angsty teens.
The rx8 was a lighter higher HP rwd coupe.
These 2 cars don't deserve to be compared.

Wtf you talking bout. Most turbo 4s these days have great torque.

I think you're just retarded and need to see a doctor.
>>
>>13941137
The evo final edition had 414 Nm at 3500rpm and the WRX STI had 407 Nm at 4000rpm. Im not a fan of 4bangers but thats pretty far from no torque
>>
>>13945625
>speedy camry
Nah m8, actually it's slower. TC only has the shite base Camry engine, while the Camry can get a V6 and go much much faster.

Honestly when I went considering an RX-8 (RX-8, RX-7 FD, S2000 were what I had my desires down to and was test driving them all), even the sales person who was clearly dumb as shit still told me how it would need more frequent oil changes, and that I should give it a quick rev after each drive.

Even in trying to sell the car they didn't pretend it was a normal car. Presumably they didn't want to be spending a lot on warranties.

And the Renesis 2 really was very reliable. More reliable than most piston engines. Just needs an oil change twice as often and a good rev now and then. A lot easier than changing timing belts and shit.
>>
>>13940852
Saw two riced out rx8's absolutely fucking crawling around town today, wondered why the fuck they bought the car in the first place and if they realize they're fucking themselves over in the long run

Which version of the RX8 motor is better? I know they changed some things in the 2009+ one, but how does that affect performance?

I really want a Shinka Edition one because I love that color. For around $6000, it seems like an awesome second car.
>>
>>13949998
It took until 2006 for them to work the bugs out of the early Rennies. From the factory, they had weak ignition coils and were very miserly with the oil injection. They also came with shite starter motors. They dropped like flies until Mazda reflashed the ECU (And the remanufactured engines were assembled by monkeys so failed in short order)

After 2006, there were changes in the ECU and an upgraded starter that made a fair difference. They tend to live longer than the '03, '04 and '05 cars.

In '08, the engine got a third oil injector across the middle of the apex seal. Supposedly that cured all the compression issues. Some say a 300rpm starter masks them instead.

They're actually reliable engines if you fix the ignition system and modify the oil injection rates.
