I'd generally say it is unless you're rally or ice racing in a 2wd class. It's just always nice to have the option to steer with the throttle. A good chassis is generally more important than the drivetrain, though.

You do not "steer with the throttle" in a FWD. "Steering with the throttle" generally refers to controlling how far the ass end of the car is hanging out when loose. It's a useful technique for tight corners, if you need to rotate more you blip the throttle a bit to break the rear end loose. It's not great for time but it will get you around the corner.

Applying too much throttle while cornering in a FWD will lead to the front end losing traction and you will actually be rotating less, so what you want to do instead is trailbrake a bit to load the front end and get more steering grip and/or loosen the rear end enough to make it come around a bit.

Braking pressing the nose down will give you more grip instead of upsetting it and can take advantage of trail braking, slightly less dt loss and weight, fewer components.

But, it's not. The performance "advantages" of FWD really only apply to spirited street driving, where these things will help you get out of trouble, like if you get a little too enthusiastic with your cornering speed you can hit the brakes without the car swinging around because of the loss of rear traction. FWD also inherently understeers rather than over, which is much easier to anticipate and recover from.

Effectively, I think, the relationship runs something like this:

All other things being equal, rwd offers various dynamic advantages in terms of balance and weight transfer and so on. However, firstly, those advantages tend to get grossly overstated by rwdfag benchracers. Secondly, the opportunity cost for them is quite high. If your sports car is based on virtually the same mechanicals as one of your economy cars, it gets to take advantage of some pretty vast economies of scale. You can then use the money you save for uprated brakes, engine tuning, crazy modern e-diffs and all kinds of other stuff.

The upshot of all this is that fwd will often provide much better bang for your buck despite its disadvantages in absolute terms.
