Are you considered the best/fastest driver for your company?

Pizza delivery driver for Papa John's, here; I'm always complimented by my customers and employer in how fast I'm able to finish a run.

I've only been doing this for a couple months and only drive an old Honda.
>>
fuck no im a terrible driver. im surprised they let me drive them. im lucky when i dont hit someone who walks in front of me like an idiot
>>
>>13936282

one of the fastest, but that only really boiled down to an extra delivery or two per night.

I was spoiled because we actually have a mountain-esque road that twists and turns and goes downhill for three miles. i miss driving in that suburb, it was a fun job before it wasn't enough to pay the bills.
>>

I honestly don't understand how pizza hut survives. They charge €17 for a pizza other places charge you 6-7€ for. And their servers are obnoxious as hell, asking me every third minute if it tastes good.

Found your problem.

I delivered pizzas in both CA and OK. In OK the delivery range was huge, 10+ miles, and tips weren't as good.

In CA 10 miles will get you across an entire city. The range is usually around 3-4 miles and tips are way better, plus you're dealing with a much higher and denser population so more orders.

No Dagumi here. I'm a shitty employee some days as far as my boss is concerned. I'm not the fastest because I don't half-ass a lot of stuff like other people. But the customers love me because I'm not a lazy nig and I know what I'm doing. At least once a day, a customer says "I'm glad to see you. The guy last week fucked everything up."

It's not that hard to follow instructions. I'm not sure how some people manage to piss off customers so much. I have lots of stores where other drivers can't stand the managers, but I get along with them great.

But sometimes I will run a route that I don't do much, and I will have customers wanting to tell me how to do my job and waste my time. And I will be an asshole back to them. I take the extra time to do stuff right and when somebody doesn't trust me, I get real irritated. I give them the invoice and say "Here is my name, and here is the phone number to call my boss if I fuck up. Until then, just let me do my job." I got in a scuffle with some cunt at a CVS over something like this a couple days ago.

I used to deliver for Pizza Hut, a local pizza place, Jimmy Johns, and now I work for a wing delivery joint.
An average friday for me is roughly 140 miles worth of deliveries, and usually around $120-160 in tips plus min wage.

The Probe tears up these poor streets. And takes no prisoners. I still usually push 22-23mpg a night even though I drive like a jackass.

Most fun job I ever had. Getting paid to smoke weed and drive my car around. Plus tons of free pizza.

My boss liked me because I was always willing to work too. When it was moderately busy, the time would go by so fast. I had no problem coming in for catering at 9am Saturday morning, working through lunch and dinner and clocking out after the dinner rush around 11pm or midnight.

Plus I did lots of prep and a little cooking when they needed it. Boss man paid me more than the other drivers because I dropped some wings in the deep fryer when the kitchen was busy or short staffed.

Nah, I'm the pizza guy that comes inside to play some XBox with you for a few minutes before I dip. True story.

There was this one asian dude with an apartment a few blocks from the pizza place who ordered like 3x a week. His place always smelled like kush and I would try to get him to smoke a blunt everytime I went there. Like subtle hints. But he always tried to play it off acting like it didn't smell like skunk.

>>13938208
hows the CDL life without weed
>>
>>13938221
It's fine now since I haven't smoked in years. It was real hard for me to quit smoking at first tho.

When I was taking the CDL course, I quit smoking because they drug test you when you get your permit. I failed after not smoking for like 6 weeks. And the bullshit I had to go through for failing a DOT drug test was such a pain in the ass. Expensive too. I would never even think about risking that happen again.

Plus smoking weed isn't as fun when you don't do it all the time. It makes you too retarded and like tripping out and all paranoid.
>>
>>13938236
a few weeks before i became a diesel mechanic i quit since i pretty much had to get my CDL to test drive some of the trucks
sucked at the time but it doesnt matter now
>>
>>13938247
Yeah it took me 3-4 months before I could wake up without wanting to smoke a bowl. And by 6 months, I didn't even care about it.

The first month or two, I would get real bad anxiety, almost panic attacks being around weed. It was horrible because my best friend sells. One day maybe a week after I quit, I went over to his place. He had just gotten back from seeing his guy. He picked up 10lbs, each lb was some different strain. I'm sitting on his couch, and he throws pound bag after pound bag at me like "Here, check this Afghan out! What do you think of this Blue Dream? How does this Purple look?" Fucker.

Applications ask if I have ever failed a pre-employment drug test or been disciplined by a job for failing a DOT drug test, so I didn't disclose it because it wasn't either of those. Not sure if it pops up on any background stuff though, it might not because it was in IL and I am in FL too. Never came up in interviews.

But when I failed it, it sucked. I had to pay $500 to go see some "Substance Abuse Professional" which was just an hour of answering questions and then they tell you what kind of classes you have to do. It was something like 30hrs of these substance abuse classes. There were a bunch of people with DUIs and domestic violence including alcohol/drugs and shit like that in these classes. The classes cost ~$2000. I also had to go to 10 AA meetings. It took 2 months to get the classes done. The classes also drug test and brethalyze you a bunch and if you fail, it's more bullshit.

And the 30hrs of class and 10 meetings was the lower-tier of what the "Substance Abuse Professional" could've given me. It was because I was young and it was just weed. They give some people way more if they have more of a history.

So if you are in a position where you have to take DOT drug tests, don't even risk it. It's not worth it.

>>

yeah you can do that and it works its just dumb because of the traditional 3 spd auto gear ratios is still gay as fuck

I drove 500km in my friends Subaru that had a broken automatic kickdown, you can shift straight up and down normally but at one place at a time while keeping your foot on the throttle while shifting
>>
>>13938584
yeah you can, it functions just like normal, your transmission only fucks up if you go from drive to reverse or park while moving, but that's given with manual or auto. it's just pointless, 1st gear is supposed to be if your car is stuck in dirt or something, 2 i'm not sure, and sometimes cars have a 3, mine doesn't, it just has 1, 2, and D, you're supposed to drive in D to not have too high revs, not shift it because you regret your purchase and pretend you're driving manual

>>
>>13938655
Sounds awful.

My only gripe with delivering pizzas was the inconsistent income. I only did it from like September to April or May. And it was great around the holidays. But there was a random weeknight where you might only get a handful of deliveries and end up making $7/hr between tips and hourly. Also as it started getting warmer in the spring, it slowed down a lot.

Then I went back to my regular job which is closed from November-March, managing a bunch of high school kids at an ice cream shop. That wasn't too bad. $12/hr, plus anywhere from $15-$30 in tips per shift on top of that. And I could work as many hours as I wanted to since it would give the owner a little time to relax and not have to worry about the place burning down.

>tfw the owner goes across the country for a wedding for a week and actually lets you run the place
I never want to own my own business like that.

I also forgot to add, the main downside to delivering pizzas is the miles and damage done to your car from constant city driving and starting it 30 times a night.

If you drive a shitbox Honda and can wrench on it yourself, you will probably come out ahead compared to working a retail job for $7.75/hr without beating on your car. If you have a decent car, it totally isn't worth it in the long term.

If you live somewhere it snows, the busiest nights are when it snows bad. You will be beating the hell out of your car.

We had some Arab kid start working for us back when I was at the pizza place. He drove a Merc ML500. It was a few years old, but it was still real clean and a nice car (remember this was 5-6 years ago). I'm sure it was his parents' old car. He didn't last long delivering pizzas in that.

Heh you have just the right attitude to be a pizza driver.

I was curious about other people's pay. I worked for an independent pizza place. I averaged $3-$4 tip per delivery, plus $4/hr cash. A 5hr shift at night from 5pm-10pm, I would normally make around $40 in tips, plus another $20 hourly. And that was all cash, so $60 for 5hrs work isn't bad. Maybe spend $5-$10 in gas. But that would still be like working 10hrs as a cashier for minumum wage after taxes.

Weekends are the money makers. Friday night, 5pm- midnight would be at least $60+ in tips. And if I worked lunch into the dinner rush on Saturdays, I could make $100-$150 in tips. And it's all easy as hell.
>>
>>13938946
Hmm

I think I'll do it in January or slightly after, if I do start. People tip well around here, and I'm a cute white guy so who knows. Most of the drivers in this city are Filipino/Chinese and middle aged. Since I tip 5 bucks on an average order, and mininum wage is about 11 bucks here, I think I could pull off $25 per hour easily. I just have to make sure I can lock my doors without turning off the car. That starter wear.

How long is a delivery shift usually? 4-5 hours? It just occurred to me that it probably wouldn't last a full 8.

I'm gonna get so blizted and flirt with all the ladies if I get the job. Seriously. The first time I get invited in, I'm taking it, and if they want to fire me I'll just say fuck you. It's not my normal frame of mind for a job, but I want to try truly not giving a shit.

Sup, Pham. Papa John's driver here, too.
>Are you considered the best/fastest driver for your company?
Just started on Monday, and it's my first job ever. So no, not the best/fastest, but managers have said I'm quick and doing great - save for fucking up 2/14 deliveries so far, but they're chill as fuck so I never got in trouble for it and of course they understand I'm new and stuff. I don't know the area that well - I don't even live in the city I'm delivering in. Our delivery radius is 10 miles, what's yours? Never got compliments from customers but my coworkers think my car is cool.
>I drive a Miata btw
>First day at work
>Manager tells me I ride along with two of the other drivers to see how it goes
>First driver tells me which customers suck and never tip, then asked me where I'm from and what kind of vidya I play - asked if I minded if he smoked, said no - then asked if I'm sure and asked if I'm undercover or something
>Second driver said he's been delivering for six months and never had a problem - then when we get to the customer house, she throws a shitfit when he says the total was $25.XX, she says the "guy on the phone said $22!"
>He offers to show the receipt, she doesn't care to see it
>Offers to sell the pizza without the soda
>She says okay, then starts cussing him out while he calls the manager to ask for the new total
>$22.XX
>She says to take it back and that she's never going to order from us ever again
So far, no one said I could have any of the canceled orders, but I've seen coworkers eating them... orz

At the top is Mio. She is the coolest in the band, she has an awesome voice and she seems pretty chill to hang around with. All in all she has the platonic qualities that suit me well in a partner while still being someone enough like me so I could be friends with her. She is also super cute. Then there is Azusa. She is cute but her personality would get on my nerves from a waifu perspective. I can't handle people who take life to seriously. She's pretty cool though. Then there's Ritsu. She's cool but seems like a lot of energy. She likes to mess around and all of that and I like that in a person. She's platonic tier, but relationship? eh. Yui. What else can I say? She's cute and cool but at the end of the day I'd be her carer. I don't want that. Tsumugi. She's the kind of rich I don't mind. Chill, relaxed and all over cool. Awesome personality. Would be friends with/10. She is super kawaii desu ne~ forgive me it was a joke but, again, a platonic thing. I'd like to be friends with her very much. Obviously the rest of the cast aren't up in the top five, but it goes like this: the fourth, the fifth, the minor fall, the major lift, and all who disagree with me are fucking normies!

It varies by location and how much you consider is decent.

My primary store makes decent tips between $2 and $7 per run and, depending on the day, how busy it is, and how many drivers are available, you'll make between $30-$75 in one day.

I go to two other stores, as well, where one location is known to have many non-tippers and the other store is known to be busy all the time - you'll make $45-$100, there, but you're going to want to take a break some time, but that's not going to happen.
>>
>>13940192
Do I have to split tips? Because I'm sure I can get $2-5 per house, and I'm not sure how many houses there are per run.
>>
>>13940236
Depends on which company you work for; Papa John's doesn't.

Most of the time, you'll do one house per run, but if it gets busy or the houses are close to each other, you can do two.

It's rare for there to be a three-delivery run, but I've heard it can happen.
>>
>>13940262
Are you shitting me?

I thought drivers always did like 5 runs at once, assuming it's a small-medium sized town or city
>>
>>13940283
We have to make sure customers get their food under 30 minutes; pizza is usually ready in 10-15 minutes and it usually takes up to 10 minutes to deliver the pizza; add another 5 minutes for an additional delivery.

I say it depends on the order. Even if you order $10-$15 worth of food, you gotta tip at leas $3. Less than $3, it isn't even worth it for the driver. Beyond that, 15%-20% is probably the norm. $4-$6 tip on a $20-$30 order.

Pizza place I worked at got a lot of business from hotels where business people stayed. Those were always good deliveries because dudes would order $15-$20 worth of food, pay with their company card, and tip at least $10.

Black people don't tip 95% of the time. It sucks. Not trying to be racist, but it's true. One of the rare times I got a tip from black people was on New Years Eve. Party at a hotel ordered like $75 worth of food. One dude paid for the food, them another dude was like "I got this!" for the tip. He gave me $2 and acted like a baller and he was doing me a favor. I guess that's what happens when you don't work or understand how money works.

Blue collar people and hispanic dudes always tip well. Asians, like from Asia, they normally tip real fat too. Asians will tip close to 50% a lot of the times.

I always tip at least 30% at reataurants and deliveries. Even when I get take-out where they have a tip jar and most people don't tip, I will do 15%-20%. Just because eating out like that is a luxury and I have worked for tips before.

I wish I got tipped more at Pepsi. I have gotten tipped twice. Last one was when I delivered a bunch of free Gatorade to an MLB player's house. Got $20.

Yes, the boss regularly hires and fires guys for being too slow. I've been here about 18 months now, and I'm consistently the fastest out of the three drivers

We got a lot of deliveries for the apartment complex right across the street. Those weren't too bad, but you needed to learn the addresses. There were like 20 different buildings and GPS didn't do shit.

So if you know where you're going, you can be back for another order in 5min. If you don't, you will be gone for 45min.

Best was always bringing 3-4 deliveries to one hotel. Easy money.

It was the Dodge Ram 50 with 2.0 L, 4 speed, RWD. And I still manage to regularly pass a Dominos driver in a Camaro. Once a Mustang started getting racy with me, I beat him to his own house. The look on his face as I was walking back to my truck from his front door as he pulled in was priceless. The truck didn't have a lot of power, but accelerated very well in the first two gears, very nimble, and I knew the roads better than some of the cops. I've had a cop tailgate me and forgot about the rough train crossing. The little truck bounced over nice and easy and his heavy cruiser announced it's displeasure loudly.

I've changed a starter and an alternator during a shift. Also changed a fellow driver's alternator on the side of the road. All at night.

I was fortunate when I was a delivery driver. I worked for a local place that had 4 cars for deliveries. We didn't have to pay for the gas, either. We had a 99 CRV, a 2000 Civic, a 98 Taurus, and a 89 Datsun pickup. All of us in the kitchen would compare times in each car going to a regular's house. I was the quickest in the Civic because it was literally the exact same as my DD, so I knew it inside and out. I was pretty close to the top for the CRV as well, but I ducked in the other two, especially the Taurus, because LOL DOESNT STEER.
>>
>>13946517
I would love to work at a place with its own delivery vehicle, and just rip it door to door.

I'm thinking of getting a series III jaguar in bad shape to throw around for deliveries, since it doesn't have a computer but has a rugged transmission and engine. I've found one for 1600 and I'm seriously considering it as a beater.
>>
>>13944187
not your reply but it really boils down to the company/restaurant you work for, working for more expensive local places gets you better tips usually as you are delivering to more wealthy places when the order is like $28 and they hand two $20's and say keep the change
>>
>>13946854
Old jags are pretty heavy on fuel (even the straight sixes have trouble breaking 20 highway)

They even have twin 10 gallon gas tanks which is all kinds of cool
>>
>>13946959
I know, I'm not retarded.

The 4.2 fuel injected motherfucker will net me roughly 15% less fuel than my current 4.0 '95. However, I'll save money in suspension and brakes, and I won't have to give a shit about the vehicle. It'll also help me out for when I get a good condition series III for collector plates.

My X300 has one xboxhueg 82 litre tank (20 gal). I can see why they used to split them up, because it takes up a massive amount of space behind the rear seats and inside the trunk.

Plus the 3 speed berg will love to be floored everywhere. Definitely moreso than my ZF box.

I just can't drive anything that's not a long-ass jaguar. Sue me
>>
>>13947011
Hey, I'm not saying don't do it. If I lived somewhere where petrol was cheap (I'm Scottish, petrol is about $6 a gallon) I'd be all over an old jag for my pizza deliveries

That said, I'm in a Saab 9-5 Aero that's barely scratching 19mpg (Imperial, about 16mpg American), so I might grab a straight six XJS for a few hundred quid for my next car and eat the drop of 5 mpg
>>
>>13947032

Pretty hyped about this idea, honestly. I'm trying to subtly uss this one craigslist guy down right now. The car has 240k km on it and peeling clearcoat... I want it for 1,000 and we're sitting at 1600 right now. Wish me luck, scotbro.

By the way, keep the Saab, thems cool as fuck. The XJS will treat you well, too.
>>
>>13947042
Saabs an automatic estate with immobilizer issues. It's a good car, but it's a stopgap measure when my E46 bit the dust.

I've always driven coupes, and I want to get back into one once I'm built up my savings a little. I'm trying to hunt down a XJS with a manual, which are hens teeth, so I might cave and get another BMW

I reckon you make more than me though, Scots are famously cheap and Canada is close enough to America culturally that you're likely to get big tips, while I rarely get tips at all.
