Ive rode in one, it was a dedicated track car. I think it was doing 6.8 in the 1/8th mile at high elevation in the summer.

Lincoln town car with 4.10 gears and nitrous runs 12's. Go with a sn95 and you'll reach 10s a lot easier.

10 seconds is not that hard, but it aint going to be cheap. For one thing, if you run in the 10's, you need a roll cage at almost every drag strip in the country. You'll also need significant chassis and drivetrain improvements.

My way? Fox body Mustang with a stroked Windsor, aluminum port matched heads, high compression, shit tons of nitrous in a wet kit, built AOD, 4.10 geared 8.8 rear, subframe connectors, boxed control arms, 90/10 shocks, 10 inch slicks, caged, aluminum driveshaft...

That should be good for low 10's, possibly high 9's all day, every day.

Personally, getting a cheap car isn't hard.

So around 12 grand and you would have a 10 second capable car that is relatively sturdy at that. You could probably buy a set up similar to this for 8 from someone thats getting out of the scene.


Ive seen Marcos from sr20 garage run a 10.1 with his sr powered s14 using a 3076r.

I run a 3582r on my SR, but I stay under 30lbs because my map sensor hates me, and so does my transmission.

One pass only though - you need a cage for anything bellow 11:50 iirc, and the motor will blow up.

If you want repeated 10 sec. passes, take that Fairmont, add a Chev truck 5.3 (LQ4 iirc), add a junkyard turbo, and isntead of an intercooler, reduce intake temps with even more nitrous. Build a 4L80 to match that power, and maybe spend some money on rear suspension and a cage.

I saw a 10.90 Plymouth Scamp on craigslist for $9500 last year with a perfect body and interior, if you didn't care about how a car looked you could do it for $5k no question. IIRC Car Craft magazine built a 10 sec El Camino for under $3k years ago. If I was going to build one I would buy a failed/unfinished drag car project for $2k and put a cheap drivetrain in it with a 250 shot. Fox body is a good option but I think a Dart/Valiant/Scamp or a 4 door or 73+ Nova/Ventura/Apollo would be even cheaper
