Lack of performance? A Focus ST will humiliate a BRZ, if we're talking actual sports cars, the choice is clear, but for shitboxes, the gulf isn't as wide as it used to be. Good chassis and suspension design, combined with an LSD makes many FF cars potent in their class.

The real problem is a lack of rear drive shitboxes in the last 25 years, and let's be honest, most of /o/ is fairly poor. Aside from a few exceptions, RWD is mostly reserved for luxury, GT or Americrap. So unless you want a Miata, there is a fair amount of decently fun FF cars for similar prices.

There are more FWD cars available in certain congifurations. If you really want a 4-cylinder coupe or sedan, for example, your RWD options are severely limited compared to the plethora of FWD options. Some of those FWD options happen to be very good. Pic related.

I got a 340hp/1900lb car for $2000, its dead reliable, handles well, brakes well, gets 30mpg, has plenty of traction at the speed I spend 97% of my driving at, is comfortable to drive, and not expensive to insure.

I didn't care whether it was fwd, rwd, AWD or whatever, just how it feels to drive.
