My MR2 makes this weird click or (spark arcing sound?) when you push the throttle in the engine bay (by the TPS). Anyone know what it could be coming from?

It sounds louder when warm. Its just one click like a few seconds after you push the throttle.

No way really? What do you think?
>>13888809
Its not going anywhere lol
>>
>>13888894
Would the alternator give me power issues?
>Le cant rev past 4k RPM when in op temp in gear MR2
>>
>>13888921
well check how strong the output of the alternator is anyway
also might be something like tappet knock
>>
>>13888721
Are you sure there's the click is by the tps? Could be detonation.

Well it sounds like the click is coming from that area. I thought maybe it was around the TPS. The TPS in it now is new tho. Maybe its near that thing the you put a feeler gauge on to set your TPS. Detonation of what btw?
>>
>>13889050
Does it sound like this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JA0cH_vRABg

But why would a tps click in the first place?
>>
>>13889069
It just one click for me not multiple. This is what I do pull throttle > revs > one click as it sits back into that dampener thing on the TB.
>>
>>13889123
Well, I'm stumped. Here's a MR2 repair manual.

http://mr-2.info/1988%20Toyota%20MR2%20Repair%20Manual%20-%20Toyota.pdf

Happy hunting.
>>
>>13889170
Thanks. I think its sounds like something arching somewhere. I'll test my alternator tomorrow and look at that book.
>>
>>13889193
bro are you sure it's not just a relay or something?
>>
>>13889202
What relay would click after throttle -> revs -> click? Maybe a fan control relay?
>>
>>13889238
probably the idle air control valve or something. I don't know a lot about MR2s but it sounds like a relay. find where your relays are and pinpoint where the sound is coming from.
>>
>>13889238
Thats a good question. The VTV thingy in that big stopper deal by the TB? I dont see anything besides a filter deal inside it.
>>
>>13888721
Manually activate the throttle in the engine bay and find the source of the noise. Alternatively, if you're a faggot and cannot find the throttle control, have your mom push on the gas while you look.

Also,
>that awful, tiny, engine bay
>>
>>13889260
relays are going to be in the fuse box m8 not near the component
>>
>>13889268
Thats what I do. You cant hear the click inside the cabin goof ball.
>>
>>13889288
then where is the noise coming from, fuccboi?
>>
>>13889268
The fuck do you think we're trying to do? Dumbass.
>>
>>13889298
I dont know man. I think its somewhere near the TPS or something. Like in the middle of the engine bay.
>>
>>13889326
bump for the night. Going to sleep.

it's knock, the car is ded.

it's not knock

>>
>>13889469
nigger knocks are fucking obvious. also I'm not OP. Knocks sound like someone repeatedly hitting the side of the block with a ball peen. not a single "click".
>>
>>13888721
actually, i was reading something about this problem with MR2s recently. I think it's a common thing and you don't have to worry about it, but I'd google it and read the answers you see on MR2 forums.
>>
>>13889532
what is it then
>>
>>13889874
gasket leak
>>
>>13889937
what gasket
>>
>>13888721
Try unplugging the vacuum line to the TVIS solenoid, then try the throttle again while the engine is running (make sure it's warm).
>>
>>13889050
>The TPS in it now is new tho

Is it an aftermarket part? Maybe the idle switch is louder on that unit when it activates. Would make sense if you're hearing the click after you're closing the throttle body (i.e. activating the idle switch).

Couple good TPS-related links if you havent found them yet:

>>13890036
Its new from toyota. I do have a code for AC switch on / idle switch. I think that code 51.
>>
>>13891050
do you think a fuel pump could cause me not to rev to 4k under load when warm?
>>
OP here its raining out right now. The stopper thing Im talking about is a dashpot by the throttle valve.

More or less pic related.
>>
Anyone know what this DP does and how can I bypass it?
>>
>>13892045
That's for the easy idle down. So the throttle doesn't snap closed at 7500rpm
>>
>>13893385
So it wouldnt cause my now rev issue?
>>
>>13893394
*No rev. IT cant get past 4K when warm
>>
>>13893394
>>13893401
No it wouldn't.
I know I've asked you before. But have you quadruple checked timing?
>>
>>13893423
Yup I had another shop take a look. Timing is good. I checked with a light following that pads and wheels walkthru.

WHERE IS YOUR TOYOTA RELIABILITY NOW?
>>
>>13893423
The next thing Im going to look at is the fuel pump. It had old gas in it and maybe the pump is getting clogged or something. It just feels like its leaning out under load. If you just turn it on and rev out of gear its fine. You can have it sit idling for 30 mins and it will rev out of gear no problem. Once its in gear it cant get past that 4K when its in Operating temp. Its fine when cold. Clutch feels fine no slips.
>>
>>13893521
Ignitor. You need a new one
>>
>>13893520
haha good one sir.
>>
>>13893527
I will get one!
>>
>>13893555
Plz report with findings. I'm sure it has to be an ignitor
>>
>>13893574
I will report back! I'm looking for a part now.
