As a tow truck driver, I totally agree.

I tow more new cars for stupid bullshit than I tow older cars for actual breakdowns.

Like a brand new 2015 Dodge RAM that won't shift out of park, the knob worked, light on the knob said D, but the dash said P... and it was actually in park.

Also drove a tow truck. Keyless starts dieing, cars not coming out of park, or going into park. Electronic shenanigans were the primary reason I towed cars. Every now and then I'd get the odd 90s corrola or subaru forester. Ball joint failures are probably the runner up to electrical failure.

I have a mid 2000's GMC Yukon, and the traction control system is useless. I hasn't failed on me yet, but all the time I'll be driving on flat, dry pavement going in a straight line, when all of a sudden "TRACTION CONTROL ACTIVATED" and it zaps all my power for a few seconds. It's pathetic.

I also drove tow trucks, and I can confirm this shit 100%. The majority of tows aren't for break downs, their for cop stops, DUI's, no license/registration, etc. Accidents cause more tows than break downs.

That being said, of the tows for break downs you get more new cars being towed than older ones, because the older ones that still run are fucking bullet proof which is the only reason they are still running.

He's not wrong, but he's not towing more new cars because new cars are worse. There's just very few piles of shit that were made 15 or more years ago still on the road, where as you can buy newly made piles of shit today.

While legitimate EBCM failures are not impossible, the least you can try before blowing $900 on a new one is to clean the shit out of the connector. That fixed the C1218 code that plagued my car.
