Why do most modern cars have to be FWD NOFUNALLOWED

These are basically the only advantages. You have FF fags going all sour grapes with "M-MUH FF IS FUN Y-YOU BENCHRACERS" but it will always be worse for performance compared to a RWD counterpart.
That and FWD always wants me to understeer into a tree when the ground is slightly wet.

What's wrong with CVT? My car is a cvt (2010 lancer vrx) and i rather like the way it handles, feels responsive enough. Can always use semi-automatic with paddle-shifters or shift-gate on the transmission itself. Otherwise it's a decent experience to drive and being able to use minimal throttle yet have a reasonable amount of acceleration to get you up to speed from a stop is nice, also extremely easy to keep a speed once you get up to speed just throttle back and it more or less will sustain the speed, likewise for highway driving. Perhaps on really small engines it doesn't work well, but i have no problem with the 2.4l engine in my car, it seems fast enough for my daily driving.
>>13876988
If you habe ever driven a manual or a good standard auto, you'd understand. The constant slipping feeling sucks. Also there's the shit reliability.

accurate
if one car represents alfonse it's the corvette
I have a Fiesta. I hate knowing I'm driving a fwd car. And the fact that it's a 4 door is even worse. Plus it's a tiny 1.6 liter 4 banger. The only cool thing about it is it's manual. I really want a rwd, 2 door, manual, 6 or 8 cylinder car. Like a cheap C4 LT1 Corvette 6-speed.
>>13877002
I have driven both a manual and a standard auto. There is no real slipping feeling, rather 'rubber banding' as people say, and you get used to it. The overall smoothness of it as a general drive is nice, there's no having the engine rev up loudly then back down as it goes through the gears, you can make it rev higher if you want to get up to speed faster or just gradually get up to speed (which it does plenty fast anyways), rather it sits at a middle-range rpm and gets up to speed. It can be a very smooth drive overall. I've driven both my lancer and my sisters' holden (chevy) cruze, 1.8l automatic. It's an alright drive but I just prefer the much quieter overall drive of the cvt in terms of engine noise. Also so far i have 54,000km on the car with no issues with my transmission, got the car second hand at 33,000km. It hasn't ever given me any issues and i make sure to regularly check the oil, fluids etc.
>>13877049
Why?
Kill yourself
>>13876869
I really can't see that. Mazda has a history of making front wheel drive cars, I don't see why they'd go to rear wheel drive suddenly

>>13877059
Yeah it's the style that holds revs at peak torque i would think. It's a bit annoying to drive during rainy weather as front tires tend to lose grip easily on takeoff hence traction control always has to kick in. Well I have what I have, the belt for the engine (i assume it was alternator due to the description) was replaced by mitsubishi at the beginning of the year due to a recall. As long as it will last me a few years (i drive fairly minimally, and a family friend is an auto-mechanic who said he will help teach me car maintenance and with servicing). He's a hell of a lot cheaper (works for mercedes) and does work on my fathers ml 500, he charges next to nothing for the work. Recently he replaced the oil sump and a few other things for 250 dollars including parts, which would have cost over 600 had my father taken it in to the dealership. The spark-plugs alone for the car were 800 dollars (excluding labor) when they had to be changed over (16 spark-plugs, 2 per cylinder).

Yeah, I don't care what kind of car it is, he got ripped the fuck off. It doesn't even cost that much to replace them in a ford triton V8 when you have to repair every spark plug hole. Your father is a god damn retard.
But so are you for liking CVT. You should both hang yourselves together, to save you from anymore embarrassment.
>>13877050
>I have driven a [good] auto

No, the shit Chevy Cruze doesn't count as a good auto, or a good car for that matter. Drive an SRT392 Charger or a 2014+ IS350/RC350/RC-F/IS-F. Those are good torque converter automatics.

> FWD isn't fun
It's lighter, so better power to weight ratio.
Handling is sharp as fuck. Turn wheel, stomp throttle, go.
Lift-off oversteer is fun as fuck, and easily snapped out with a good boot of throttle.
Trays under the rear wheels, handbrake on, go drifting.
Small cars and small engines rev like crazy, so you get to feel like a racing driver as you pound up through the gears to hit 5th at about 50. Then you skip gears on the way down, whack it into a corner, and accelerate hard out of it without the rear wheels spinning.
And it's cheaper. Go buy an old FWD hatchback sometime and throw it around. Abuse the shit out of it because it doesn't matter to you. I promise you, it'll be fun as fuck.
>>13880105

>Less drive train losses = more whp

Driving is a right , and FWD doesn't infringe on it.
>>13879511
It was the first time he decided to take it to that Mercedes Benz dealership, he hasn't taken it back there since. He just wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt that they would be reasonable in terms of their pricing. Hence why he has all servicing done by a former neighbour who is a Mercedes technician. The spark plugs were what he got done by the dealership, all the other work since has been the mechanic, who does it at parts cost plus a bit of labor.
>>13879575
I will take you at your word, as i've never driven any of those. I've had a go in a Toyota Aurion (brothers car) that was fairly nice for a mid-sized sedan. The most expensive (in terms of cost when new) car i've driven was my dads 2001 ml 500, which for an automatic had a nice smooth ride and also had a fair lot of power. Maybe i'll be able to drive a proper nice auto at some point so until then i guess i cannot comment.
>>13876791
>he can't have fun in FWD

>>13883693
No. That anon is correct in saying that driving is privilege, not a right. In order to legally drive a car, you have to show that operate it in a safe manner. That's why we have licenses and license tests and lawful discrimination against people who are deemed too unsafe to operate a motor vehicle.

Price of production as well as stability of the car.
It's easier to set up a stable and understeery FWD car than if it would be RWD, and sadly that's what the average costumer needs. Basically, blame any non-enthusiast buying cars.

FWD can be good, yes, but RWD is just a bit more fun to through around.
Humble opinion. My current car is FWD and sporty enough, but I've preferred driving RWD cars, even when they're trucks or whatever, mostly because of that extra je ne sais quois when you take sharp turns. Oversteer isn't really the whole picture.
