i'm in a market for a RWD automatic japanese car and i thought of pic related as my next car
yay or nay? what should i look out for if i decide to test drive one?
If you're american, the IS200 isn't available there/
If not they're not exactly quick and decent-ish on fuel.
IS300 is miles better in terms of performance
I'd look at an M45

Are you sure? I see these cars occasionally around where I live, I'm in the US
>>13874322
The US only got the IS300
>>13874322
Buy an LS400 dickhead
Is 300 SC 300 is for people who want manual
>>13874311
Yuropoor here, there's a handful of 200s and a few 300s on the market
>>13874327
Go look at M45s
>340hp
>V8
>automatic
>handles well
>rwd jap lux barge
>>13874334
LS400 are cool, but they're terrible on fuel consumption, plus they're on average 10 years older than ISs and i dont want a sinkhole in my garage, since im a student
>>13874322
No IS200 in the US. At least not those older ones. The newer models I think they have the IS200T now.
>>13874334
This. If you want an automatic and a cruiser, LS, ES, or even GS. If you want dat 2JZ to pull hektik skidz, gotta grab the manual. I mean you can get an automatic IS300 and there will be less boyracer taxes on it, but it isn't going to be that exciting.
>>13874270
The IS300 is pretty good. In the US I believe they had the infamous 2JS engine.
>>13874362
Yeah there is a 2016 IS200t, but it's a different engine. Now they're using the 2L turbo 4 they used in the NX. The third-gen IS chassis/steering is pretty damn good though.
>>13874382
they had the 2jz-gr rverywhere, which isnt quite as infamous because its the non-turbo version
>>13874389
2jz-ge* misstyped
>>13874389
Ahh my bad then. I wasn't sure if everywhere used the 2JS for the 300. Also I thought that the non-turbo 2JZ still had good tuning/turboing potential.
>>13874407
it is different to the gte version, in the oil system for example, so its not that great to turbo
>>13874407
you could probably get 500hp out of one quite easily
>>13874429
No.
The pistons are different, that's really it.
The oil return is plugged on the GE blocks and that can be tapped.
However in the Altezza/IS the 2JZ in that car has different connecting rods than other 2JZs.
>>13874452
heard of any UZ swaps?
>>13874479
Been done
Someone did a 1GZ as well
1JZ swap is the easiest/most cost effective route
Every Altezza I know of has a 1JZ swap and Lexus badges on it by now
>>13874491
yeah but muh vee ayte.
1GZ is madness.
Seen 1FZs swapped into anything?
>>13874515
>1FZ
Outside of a straight drag car with a giant turbo, that's a useless swap.
It's pig fucking heavy
>>13874534
I know, I still like it. It's like a Jap Ford 300
>>13874440
not reliably. the turbo one sure but the n/a one doesn't have much going for it as far as internals go
>>13874558
Nigger the internals are the same on non vvti
The only difference is the [istons
VVTi have different rods and even then, it's a bloody 2JZ, you can buy that shit readily.
>>13874558
I believe the rods are okay to that power but the compression is obviously wrong.
Piston compression height is the same on the GE and GTE from what I can tell.
I think GTE pistons put you somewhere between 8.5 and 9.0 :1
>>13874270
Buy a Lexus IS300 Manual (learn to drive stick faggot) and 2JZ swap it
>>13874585
>2JZ swap something that already has a 2JZ in it
>>13874597
Oh right, i fucked myself up.
Nevermind the last part.
Buy a manual and learn to drive stick.
>>13874597
Still, its the 2JZ-GE not the GTE
>>13874567
I believe the non VVTi GEs had weaker blocks and internals, not to mention head differences.
That said being slightly weaker than a 2JZ-GTE is still pretty good going, and it doesn't take much at all to make a GE hit 500hp+ with a good power band and reliability
Answer me this OP: have you made this thread before, or are there just a rash of idiots who require such a shit combination of attributes in a car?
