What are your thoughts on the Civic EF?

I'm planning on building a clean, jap econoshitbox project for dd'ing and track days.

Fucking hate the floaty feel of the all double wishbone suspension and power steering.
>Though that might have just been the one I was driving around at the time.
Other than that gud car.
>>
>>13866262
I'd go with a ek. Ef is a lot older and a lot harder to find parts for.
>>
>>13866262
It aint a tight car if it aint a type r.
>>
>>13866358
>Floaty

Well yeah it has 100-200lb spring rates and $50/each all seasons from Pep Boys with a B traction rating.

What did you expect a NSX?

>>13866262

Go for it, OP. Just get a garage and a second car. They're getting old and you're stupid if you think you can use a 25-30 year old car as a daily driver AND race car at the same time.

As a person who has waaaaay too much damn experience building 1990s Hondas? Just get the least rustiest one in the nicest shape, even if its automatic (that can be fixed easily). And try to avoid hacking it up. As a race car I'd just avoid Del Sols and sunroofs if possible. I personally hate the idea of having a hole in my roof and having to replace sunroof assembles or get leaks because its a 25+ year old economy car.
>>
>>13867226
Actually, 160lb front/80lb rear spring rates for stock cars. I'm surprised they're not bouncier than they are.

And yeah, just find the nicest one. Civic, Integra, etc. All the same fucking thing. When you get to the point in time/money that you've spent to make one fast enough where a hatchback bodystyle is a tenth of a second faster than a sedan, or whatever then you part it out and start out using a entirely different platform that's way faster out the box.

Like a Evo/STi or a used Corvette/M3/S2000/BRZ.

For the same price you can get an EG/EK, which will be less rusted and have more available parts
>>
>>13871756
>>13867226 here, EGs are usually the rustiest because Honda started using eco-friendly (read: shittier) paint like most car companies during the early-mid 1990s. Its why you rarely see Hondas from 92-95 in general, or with Integras and Accords why you see so many more 96-97 Integra/Accords vs 94-95. The 94-95s despite being the same body/chassis tend to be rustier and the paint didn't hold up as well as the 1-2 year newer cars. I live in the Northeast and its actually easier to find a rust-free EF than EG.

EKs are OBD2 which are a whole other mess if you live in a state where emissions test matter.
>>
>>13871794
Why does everyone shit on EK
Why is obd2 even a negative
>>
>>13871796
Because every Honda tuning program (Chrome/Hondata/Neptune) requires a OBD1 ECU of some sort with a piggyback chip soldered in (Hondata/Neptune) or socket for EEPROM (Chrome) and a stepdown harness from OBD2 -> OBD1.

The only way you can make a EK with a swapped engine pass OBD2 emissions is if it has a OBD2 computer and all the emissions parts on the motor you put in work. It'd likely have to be a engine from a US (JDM won't ever work) 96-01 Integra (GSR or LS), keeping everything like factory (EGR, IACV, Cat, Primary/Secondary O2s, EVAP, etc) aside from the matching computer.

Or you could spend $3000-4000 on a K-Series swap and pass emissions inspections using a Hondata KPro. You literally just hit a setting in Kmanager and hit "set readiness" for the OBD2 scanner.

It'll pass like a stock car would even if you don't have a cat and instead run a cutout on a 500whp GTX3582 K24 Turbo on C85. I know from experience.

You'll buy a rekt ass D15 project car with cut springs, a hole in the exhaust, and worn alive guide seals, along with frame damage and multiple problems for wayyy too much money off some Mexican from CL.

You'll instantly regret it when the laundry list of parts outprices the actual blue book. Desperate to get it rolling, you'll cheap out, ignore most problems and do "deletes" on what you can, and spend the rest on getting an illegal smog and eBay suspension parts that make it way too low, scrape on speed bumps, and handle significantly worse than stock because #SWAG

Finally, if this thing ever sees a day of track, you'll DNF after you blow a head gasket or wreck it on a pile of tires.

You'll then sell it after you know it's fucked to some stupid kid that has the same stupid dream as you

And thus completes the circle of life

This is my EF. Has a B18A1 swap with loss of compression in cylinder 2 and needs a new brake master cylinder.. I got it for $1k because of the problems it was having. Already have a JDM B20B (for $350) and new MC ready to be swapped in.

Its gonna be a good little project to have fun on the track with.
