It's the only supercar brand that hasn't sold its soul. Lamborghini and Ferrari are constantly changing to look new and flashy, often missing. With every new Porshe 911, you can expect the same thing: a RR sports coupe with an unmistakable, traditional, and downright beautiful style. For that I respect them.
>>
Love em'

Only people that hate them are jealous poorfags as far as I can tell.

Favorite manufacturer by far. They've made RR work despite the naysayers and just keep on building sexy, fast sports cars that stand out from the rest of the Germans.

>>13864960
Porsche's sports cars can still be had in hardcore mode though, which can't be said for Lambos and Ferraris. Sure, Porsche also makes rolling Jewelry for women and Arabs, but that's all Lamborghini and Ferrari make with the exception of a few special editions.

>>13864898
>looking like a faggot
I forgot that the point of buying a car is to prove you can afford the most expensive model from that particular manufacturer. Caymans have fantastic performance (inb4 Murrican drag-strip performance) and a few aftermarket parts can set them up to spank a base 911. It's not like you're going to even touch the flat-out capabilities of a Cayman S on a public road anyway.

>>
>>13864978
This is true of any expensive car, though. Range Rovers and G-Wagens are great offroaders, but only rich housewives drive them. Lamborghinis are legitimately fast, but the only people who buy them are Arabs who use them as noisemakers, etc.

At least with Porsche the used ones fall into an affordable range for the middle class and the track-oriented models are produced in worthwhile volume.
>>
>>13865027
they are going to ditch the flat 6 soon
>>13864891
they are stuck making everything look like a 911 as if the 914 and 928 don't exist
>>
They're okay
>>
>>13865117
>stuck making everything look like a 911

That's an interesting point. Even the Boxster looked a little different when it first came out, but the newest Boxsters as well as the Caymans look like 911's so much. From a distance, if I see the front of a Cayman, it still takes me a second to figure out it isn't a 911. Even the SUVs and the Panamera look like a 911 from the front. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it restricts the designers a bit.

I wonder what the Cayman would have looked like if they didn't stick to that design so hard.
>>
They're good. I have a Boxster GTS.

I don't think they look that terrible. Like I mentioned in my other post, I kinda like the whole curvy aspect of the 996's. Especially with the goofy spoiler.

It's probably just my age. Born in 1989, so the 996 was the newest and greatest 911 during the years that I was getting into cars. These days, the cocaine era 930's are my favorite. They are such wild looking little cars, it is awesome. They still had that "Beetle on steroids, HGH, methamphetamine, and kryptonite" look to them.

Do you think the early 996's will ever be sought after for the same reason they are disliked right now? Because of the fact that it was an all new car and engine compared to the same design that was used for decades before it?

Whenever there is a thread saying "Post cars that will significantly increase in value in the next 10 years" a few people always seem to mention the 996.

I'm just curious about the future of the car and the value. It is a 911, so after enough time, a clean and original 996 will definitely pull some money. But in 30 years, I wonder what will be worth more money and more collectable- a late 993 or early 996, assuming similar trims and rarity.
>>
my mom DD's a '14 c4 cab. for 135k you can get faster cars, but you wont find one that feels better built or handles so well.
>>
>>13866143
The only 996 that will increase in value are the expensive models (they already do just look at GT2/3 or turbo S). Normal ones never will and I'm pretty sure it's always the same guys that post them in these threads.

The 993's will probably be mostly the same way until both car models are getting much older and more rare.

My whole point is in the year 2040, what will cost more- a 1998 993 Turbo or a 2001 996 Turbo? I don't know what the production number are, but assuming they're similar, which one will be worth more?

And even with that, maybe by 2040, there are more 996's in good condition since it is a newer body style. So what about comparing a 993 Turbo in the year 2040 to a 996 Turbo in 2050? Which will pull more interest and money at auctions?

And it isn't even so much the monetary value, but rather the collectability based on how car enthusiasts view the cars. When the cars are 40-50 years old, which one will be remembered as having the bigger impact on the auto industry, the 993 or 996?

Are you following me? Not necessarily all about value in $$$, but rather if people will value the 993 for being the end of a generation or rather the 996 for being the start of a new generation?

Just something that has me thinking.
>>
>>13866430
Lambos are flash first, fast second

The Huracan is slower than most every other car it's competing with, but it's styled after a fucking fighter jet

The Aventador (not including the SV) attacks a road like a hammer, whereas the Ferrari's are like surgical blades. The Aventador thus isn't really as fast, but it's loud, brutish, and looks fucking crazy, which are all very flashy.

The SV is an outlier that is Lamborghini proving they can make feats of engineering that aren't all flash.

They look like Beatles with body kits

They sound like a minivan or V6 truck, excluding the Carrera and a few very highly tuned models. Porsche's don't sound bad but I'd sure as hell never pay six figures for something that sounds that dull no matter how good it performs.

I figured there were definitely more 996 Turbos compared to 993 Turbos. So in that respect, I'm sure the 993 Turbo will always be worth more $$.

But the questions still exists, in 30-40 more years, will the 993 be praised for being the last of an era while people shit on the 996? Or will the 996 ever be respected as a big step for the model and bringing on a whole new 911?

Is there a 996 GT2 that had similar production numbers to the 993 Turbo? Will they ever be close in value or no?

I would love to drive an air-cooled 993, and them drive a 996 directly afterward to really see what the difference is. Then maybe I will understand what the big deal is. I'm starting to understand why a more simple air-cooled 911 could be a blast on the track. But then again, /o/ hates power windows and I enjoy my one-touch.
>>
>>13866794

I've driven both and own a 996tt. The 996 turbo is a lot faster and has a better chassis. The 993tt is very loud with poor sound proofing, which I suppose some people are more into. I went with the 996 for the speed/cost/comfort

I love Porsche. I only started liking them not for long and after driving one (991 C4) for the first time. I just really love the suble styling, the feeling of tightness and compactness, the interior, that severely underrated sound etc etc. Also it's rather reasonably to aspire to own one one day, and if not for a 911, a 981 Cayman (GT4, ideally) really makes my heart beat faster. Tl;dr: very well made cars, they drive very well, and are totally not boring. Also relatively affordable, and let's not forget masterpieces like the Carrera GT and the 918 Spyder.

Damn all this hate on the newest models...

I think the 991 looks good. Rear end with the new tail lights looks nice. Only thing I think looks goofy is the new LED DRL's. The 4 white LED's around the headlight. They just look strange. And the base model 991 looks a little bit plain from the side, but whatever.

And the 981, when the Cayman first came out I thought it was a cool idea. A more affordable porsche that wasn't an odd looking convertibe like the early Boxsters. But now the new Boxsters look good and the Cayman looks like a mini-911 that doesn't quite fit in. They could so easily make it better than the 911, but it would fuck their whole business plan. They should've made the Cayman look like something besides a 9:10 scale 911. Put the engine in the front, and actually keep it as a somewhat affordable Porsche ffs.

The Cayenne, Macan, and Panamera are all worse than the 981 and 991. And now I'm starting to see more and more Cayennes that are old and not taken care of and it just kills Porsche's image. That Stuttgart badge on a sun-faded SUV with brake dust all over the wheels being drivin by a beaner.

End rant.

Nearly impossible to do engine work yourself? I don't even think you can access the engine bay on a Boxster/Cayman without partially dissambling the car
>>
>>13868256
Pretty sure they have access hatches for (semi-)regular maintenance type stuff.

Literally isn't an issue unless you buy a super low mileage example that has spent most of it's life locked up in a garage.
If the IMS was going to fail, it would have done so by 40k miles

No thanks. I like the idea of an affordable, mid engine flat 6 powered sports coupe

The front trunk is the exact same size. The entire fronts of the cars are almost identical if you're comparing the same generation. The Boxster also has a rear trunk as well as the front trunk that the 911 doesn't have. Rear seats are useless in a 911 unless you use it for storing things and not people.

I daily drove mine and did grocery shopping for a family of 6 with it. It was also my first car that was my own, not dangerous at all.

>>13868256
You can do tons of work on them yourself, they have access panels.
You don't even need to drop the engine to change the spark plugs. And changing the water pump was easy as fuck on mine because of the access panel right behind the seats that lets you get to the front of the engine

Here's a pic of the access panel behind the seats.
It takes like a minute to undo the back of the convertible top and get to the top of the engine as well.

That's wild. It's cool Porsche actually made it serviceable so you don't have to pay for 20 hours of shop labor any time you need something routine replaced.

I drive my dads 997.1 daily and I love it.

That reflects Porsche's attitude for their performance cars, they want to make great cars and not just a profit

>I wonder what the Cayman would have looked like if they didn't stick to that design so hard.

I'd love to see the Cayman and Boxter redesigned so they didn't look like agressive 911's. It's not like Porsche hasn't strayed from their hallmark designs in the past.

I'd really like to see a 944 or 928 successor sometime soon.

On the one hand they've kind of sold out and have been making crossovers/SUVs for awhile.
On the other hand they seem to be using the revenue they get from their crossover/SUV sales for sportscars/MOTORSPORT, which is cool.
I like them, I like their design philosophy that you should be able to work on your vehicle yourself, and I'm glad that they haven't made the 911 look fucking angry and slapped a huge radiator onto it.
>>

The Panamera has two doors too many though...
Also it looks extremely fat. The facelift fixed it somewhat, but it's still not pretty.

Since there is already a Porsche thread around, guess there's no point in making a new one to ask this.

Everyone claims that the early 928 is a mechanical hell in terms of reliability, but what about the latter 90s models? Surely a 1995 928 is mechanically superior to a 944, r-right?
>>
>>13868758
Mechanically superior, sure. But it's probably on more reliable because it's newer.
Keep in mind that the design of the car was introduced back in the mid-70s. You're buying a 40 year old German luxury grand tourer

Not just talking about vehicular safety, a lot of my neighborhood is very "multicultural" and a kid with a relatively modern Porscher would be the ideal target. The 944 wouldn't be too much of a hassle, there's one down the road most of the times and no one has tried to jack or vandalize it throughout the last years, but the Boxster is far too pompous to be ignored. Plus, given I'm a college student and most of my classmates drive old Civics and Gulfs, I don't really feel like being the douchebag with the expensive-looking sports car.
