Vtec was made for economy not power you fucking child

I read it was sales. But that doesn't make any sense. Why would they WANT to intentionally sell cars?

D15b3-stage vtec. Valve closes at low rpms for good economy. Valves fully open at high rpms, and one in between for mid range.

What do you mean? Do you not understand what vtec is?

>>
>>13852697
Except it was. I'm not even a Hondafag and I know this.
Vtec became available on Honda cars in the late 1980's. Back then, almost ALL of their competition used SOHC 8 valve turbo 4 engines. The only real exception was Oldsmobile's Quad 4 engine that gave the Vtec Honda's a run for their money.
>>
>>13852711
>and gets 24-27mpg
There are engines that produce more HP at your "24MPG" range that get better MPG.
T; your k20a2/z3 exhibits lower thermal efficiency than a Geo Metro

>210whp all motor car
Oh wow that's so impressive. Tell me, what is your BSFC at the peak of your (K20?) volumetric efficiency range?
T; jack of two trades, master of none.

I understand that, but N/A DOHC 4V competition was slim back then. Just about everything that competed with the Vtec Hondas was a turbocharged SOHC 2V engine. They lost that advantage in the 1990's. Nowadays Vtec isn't as big a deal as it was back then. Everyone has VVT, DOHC 4V engines with turbo's now and Honda has been sitting in their own little world resting on laurels they no longer had that they now have to play catch up.
>>
>>13852803
>there are 4 cylinder N/A engines that make more HP than a k20a and get 24 mpg

I want to see how retarded you are
>>
>>13852763
Who gives a shit. I bought it for the sum of its parts. Being N/A and making decent power/weight while getting good MPG is a side-benefit.

I'm sure a Turbo engine can make more power more efficiently. Fantastic. A Turbo Honda is useless if you want to turn though (new CTR is the exception, not the rule) and all motor cars just sing at high rpms. A VTEC Honda sounds like a brass instrument at full bore, more trombone or trumpet. The response is great, and theyre dead nuts reliable (does it have oil? OK you're clear for flight).

If I wanted to build a car that can't turn I would've gone with a DSM or a 4th Gen FBody.

You know, that's fine it's your car your preference. Just when I read your post I got flashbacks of tacky Honda ricers that put stickers of their best MPG and ET on their rear bumper above their exhaust, like they thought VTEC was some kind of magic voodoo that had no downside and only upsides. Like who does that? LOL

My hatch makes considerably more torque throughout the rev range, and pulls like fuck up top to 8k, and I can squeeze a fantastic 35mpg with my 0.680 5th gear (5 speed) and all without switching between 2 cam profiles or even cam phasing. But if I ever put stickers of that on my bumper, I want someone to shoot me.

You fucking moron, vtec is specifically for economy and low end drivability.
Fucking dumbass.
>>
>>13852874
It's true though anon. It turns into one big game of heat management and replacing broken shit from speeding up a car to 120+ mph then slowing it back down over and over again. Cooling issues until the inevitable head gasket pops, brake fade and melted pads/rotors from trying to slow down a car from 140mph at the end of a straight instead of 100mph (and suspension joints/wheel bearings having the grease in them melt out from the brake heat and cornering/gforce loads) bolts and clamps rattling themselves apart, oil temps getting too hot, etc. And on top you have to run way wider stickier tires (225/45/15? Nah, try 255/40/16 or wider) that cost more money.

The car turns from a willing dance partner to a wild uncontrollable horse capable of chasing down Z06s if you can keep it running.

Awesome.

Now take your 400whp engine and put it on a race track. Run it for 20-30 minutes at a time open lapping non stop. I'll wait until you inevitably pop a head gasket, bend a rod from detonation (you'll quickly find out 20 mins of abuse isn't the same as a quick pull or 1/4 pass) or at least turn it into tire smoke and boiled over brake fluid.

Unless you're willing to drop used Z06 money on a 1994 Honda Civic its not happening.

Race cars aren't cheap, and neither are Turbo Civic time attack cars that won't blow up like a nuke. The Z06 might be a little more money but you're saving time, effort, and youll be able to resell it for not much less than what you paid.

>>13853696
Seconded. As a person who actually has seen EK9 CTRs for sale in America they go for $9000-14000, usually imported through Flordia. Same price as a legal DC2 ITR.

And the best part about the Camaro is that you can take it to the movies without having a gang of Puerto Rican descend on your sweet Type RRRRRRR and its parts end up on a bunch of rotted out shitboxes while you're still watching the ending of Furious 8 or whatever by yourself.

Friends of mine, yes some of us do have friends you faggot loser. Hospital lottery, as in Princess Margaret/Heart and Stroke/etc. lotteries.

Costly repairs in that they won the vehicle, and did not purchase it. Ford did not honour any warranties, because it didn't COME with any warranties. It had been donated by Ford, not sold to the corporation that runs the lottery. Part of the donation agreement is that there IS NO WARRANTY on the vehicle. They figure you're getting a free vehicle, you can pay for repairs.

Which is why I would've sold it, because it's a piece of shit.

Ford shills on this board are really nauseating, it's like eating a dirty diaper every time I come to this board anymore.

A 5k Civic is not making 400-500whp in a car originally meant for 170-180whp, nor is a Civic Type R a $5000 car in America. Maybe in England or New Zealand. And quite frankly you're just delusional if you think a $5000 Honda is going to last making over twice its factory output without at least spending another $10000 on a sleeved and built block with aftermarket rods and pistons, a decent turbo, hours of welding aluminum piping, at least a day dyno tuning it, etc. Just a Hondata runs $400 used minimum. And we haven't touched a single part on the rest of the car. And inevitably something is going to break when you start running the car hard. Cars simply do not last when you force them to make x2-3 factory output. It's a fact of life that /o/ like many novices refuse to believe.

Even in Japan they don't sell cheap because everyone knows you can chop them up and make at least $5000 if not more parting them out and selling them overseas. Just the drivetrain pulls $3000-3500. Type Rs hold value even as parts cars because they're used by amateur rally competitors in Japan as FWD rally cars (ever watch videos on YouTube of Japanese privateer rally racing? Or flipped through option? Tons of Integra/Civics in the 2WD classes).

http://blog.caranddriver.com/lemons-wisdom-vs-conventional-wisdom-17-cars-that-should-dominate-but-dont-camaro-supra-gti%E2%80%94ahoy/

>It doesn’t matter what kind of engine swap you have in mind (we’ve seen every possible combination of B, D, H, and K engine in just every imaginable Civic/Integra), because the rigors of LeMons racing will kill your head gasket. That is, if your red-misty drivers don’t shoot a couple of connecting rods into the radiator first, because Honda engines will spin happily well beyond the factory redline when you need to make… just… this… one… pass.

> The proportion of Civics and Integras that suffer major take-the-engine-apart problems during the course of a LeMons race weekend approaches 75 percent at the more notorious engine-killing courses (e.g. NJMP, Thunderhill). Because of the sheer quantity of these cars, we’ve seen one Civic, one CRX, and one Integra manage to take overall LeMons wins, which means that 20 Alfa Romeos have a better LeMons winning percentage than roughly 500 Hondas.
