>>
I can't hold all these bookshelves
>>
My car has daytime running lights that can't be turned off unless I turn on the actual headlights. So I just turn on my headlights most of the time, whether day or night. It improves visibility significantly and doesn't really have any drawbacks. What is much worse is the people who don't turn their headlights on in poor lighting conditions making it harder to see them.
>>
Considering when i ride my bike my headlight can not be turned off and people still look at me as if i am wearing an invisibility cloak personally i think it should stay on..
>>
>Not driving with your fog lights on at all times

Seriously what's the problem with using your headlights?

I can see it in the thumbnail of your thumbnail.
>>
>>13841394
It doesn't matter if you can still see it. The lights get peoples attention and make them aware of it even if they aren't looking out for cars.
>>
>>13841051
you got a problem with my automatic day time running lights?
>>
>>13841051
>driving with your headlights OFF
touche anon
I don't have a problem with people proactively having them on before it gets all that dark, or being safe and keeping them on a bit longer than necessary. Daytime running lights don't bother me nearly as much as the reckless endangerment the idiots who forget to turn their lights on represent.
>>
>>13841382
I hate when people with cars that blend with the environment don't use their lights just because it's not night.
>>
>>13841402
That's why some places, like Canada, have mandatory daytime running lights.
>>
>>13841394
The point is the car on the right is 10 times as visible as the car on the left, you notice cars that have headlights on much earlier.

Since 2011 all new cars built in Australia have day time running headlights that can not be turned off.

>>

I still find it bizarre that the US doesn't have mandatory daytime running lights. Even during the day, if it's raining or just grey out, cars can be more difficult to see

And so many people in the US drive around with no headlights on in the rain.

That's the only thing I hate about driving in the US pretty much. Everything else, including the signage, is way better than Canada.

Even if the state/country doesn't require always-on lights, manufacturers could do a lot to improve this. For example, they could make headlights turn on any time the windshield wipers are on. They could make the automatic-light-sensor more sensitive so they turn on any time it's relatively dark outside.

What surprises me is that my older car has features for this that newer cars don't for some reason. My 2000 Camry has always-on running lights, and the sensor turns on the actual headlights way before it's completely dark outside. My mom's 2013 Camry doesn't have running lights and the sensor waits until it is much darker.
>>
>>13841485
The car not the road you fucking twat.
It makes the car more visible...
You notice a car with its headlights on before you notice one without them.
>>
>>13841485
Depends on the time of day obviously.
Even in perfect sunshine headlights make a car much more conspicuous. The effect is even greater when a car is in shade or the sun isn't shining brightly directly on the car.

It's even more important for dark-colored or neutral colored vehicles or small vehicles (motorcycles).
>>
>>13841382
Fog lights are not headlights and they are literally useless for anything other than fog.

For the record I always use my headlights regardless of time/weather condition because I'm not a fucking retard.

>>13841379

In the rain they will blind oncoming traffic.. They are aimed at the ground to see the lines of the road in FOG. When its wet the light will bounce off the shiny road surface(especially fresh black asphalt) and will blind oncoming traffic.

In the dry low lights like that probably wouldn't blind anyone unless they are retarded HID lazor beams, but it is still utterly pointless.

GM is a repeated offender when it comes to daytime running lights. Drives me nuts.

On my s10 I have a button on the dash that is a dome light override switch (its oem)

I found out that if I press it four times my daytime running lights will shut off. You can only imagine my excitement when I figured that out.

New ones fog up when they detect light so it dims it.

Nah it still mirrors the road behind just the change in angle effectively dims the lights behind you.

Toyota and GM were the worst with DRLs in the 90s/early00s. Seems like they've both let up.

A lot of GM cars had pretty easy procedures to disable them though. Toyota's on the otherhand were a complete pain, unless you like driving with your parking brake on.
>>
>>13842079
In my grand am if you set the ebrake to the first click they'd stay off

> found this out doing ebrake slides at night
> thought it was a wiring issue
>>
>>13841844
>>13842079
Are you saying they are offenders because they have DRLs? It's literally a bonus. Why do you not want them on?
>>
>>13842268
In ideal conditions where the suns out and the weather is generally good, there is zero reason to reduce the life on my headlights. If you can't see a car coming without headlights on a good day you shouldn't be driving.

However I will admit when its overcast, raining, snowing, etc daytime running lights are good, they make it easier for other cars to see you. If there was an easy way to turn off DRL I wouldn't be complaining. I found out how to turn mine off by luck.

My last car was a 2001 grand prix, I pulled the fuse for the DRL and when I turned on the car it started clicking very rapidly and the headlights were flashing. Is that really necessary after pulling a fuse?
>>
>>13842079
In my experience GM still uses daytime running lights.

Sometimes I drive a 2009 gmc savanna and it has DRL. Also my mom has a 2014 cruze, which is equipped with DRL
>>
>>13841485

>>13842305
>zero reasons

>reduce the life of my headlights
At least in my car they have their own bulb so reducing the life doesn't matter if you don't use them.
>if you can't see a car coming you shouldn't be driving
That doesn't stop people from being on the road. Even if they can see you, it will be easier and faster to see you with headlights.

>Matte green K5
It's got a 3 inch lift and I still always drive with the lights on, makes for way less near misses.

Seriously how cheap are you? My 2000 Explorer (in Canada with DRL) had the stock bulbs until a few months ago where I changed them because I wanted something brighter. It won't kill you to spend $50 on bulbs every 10 years.

There is a very important reason why cars sold new here where I live are legally required to have lights on at all times, and that reason is visibility. So many retards will NOT switch on their lights in low-light conditions where you'll struggle to see anyone on the road infront of you, and also impairing their own visibility without thinking that their headlights aren't on.

Yesterday I was driving in perhaps the thickest fog I've ever been in. I was doing 40kph in the 60kph as I would not have the slightest chance to stop if anyone or anything would appear in the road infront of me at that speed, and STILL I was meeting cars with absolutely no lights (German imports and similar) driving around, sometime in the middle of the road as they probably couldn't see the markings.

It improves visibility so much, and the only reason I would ever think its ok for cars not to come with lights automatically on all the time the engine is on would be if people would actually start paying attention to what they are doing, something I don't see happening any time soon
