What went wrong, /o/?
>>13840352
The MP3 Proteges were underpowered, and Mazda decided not to invest in making the motor stronger to support the boost. What they wound up with was a car that would pop after about 90k miles.

>fwd jap crap
>into the scrap pile it goes
>>13840352
well they used leftover diesel turbochargers and didn't upgrade any engine internals so not a great place to start
>>13840378
Anon is mad about Camaros again... and is probably drunk
>>13840352
My buddy has one. I know others who do too. They aren't bad cars. The main issue was oiling systems had to be upgraded if you go past stock boost.
They actually handle very well. My buddy dominated autocross with his. They come stock with a bunch of racing beat parts too.
I think they're interesting, not the quickest but pretty competent.
>>13840352
Nothing. It was good for what it was. No one expected it to make power.
>>13840373
thats not an mp3.
>>13840397
if you dont know what you are talking about shut the fuck up. the turbos on the mazdaspeed proteges were sourced straight from garrett.
>>13840503
i also had one until some fucking mexican tboned me. great little car. the oil problem was an issue if you track the car.
I love them. Great to drive, a friend used to have one. All the ones I see locally on Craigslist all have blown motors though. They're just too weak.
>>13840352
No motherfucking popups senpai
I wouldn't mind getting one, but all the ones I've seen listed are at 7K because they know what they got
>>13841049
>7K
That's almost MS6 territory bro, and I'd much rather have one of those.
>>13840352
Nothing. For the econobox segment, it's one of the most fun to drive.
Bumpan for an awesome car
they should totally bring back the 323 gtx as a competitor to the wrx and the like
>>13842153
>AWD turbo Mazda 3 three door
would buy
>>13842153
Umm... Speed3 awd...
>>13842153
I think Mazda maybe planning that with the next iteration of the Mazdaspeed 3.
>>13842173
>>13842178
but is it any good?
My dad used to have a factory supercharged Mazda Millenia that was pretty fun to drive.
>>13842229
Won't know until it makes it into production. I imagine its target will be the Focus RS and Golf R. So it should be "good" at the very least.
It's too bad the Mazdaspeed Proteges weren't based off the wagons.
>>13842178
give me that bmw bumper senpai
>>13844490
You can swap the Mazdaspeed bits into the Protege5. I ran into a guy at an autocross who did exactly that.
I'm still trying to figure out if I can shoehorn the entire Mazdaspeed6 motor and AWD drivetrain into my 5-door Mazda 6. I'm worried they changed the floorpan between the FWD and AWD models. The older stuff Mazda offered in AWD like the GT-X and 1990 AWD Protege had different floorpans to accommodate the driveshaft and rear diff.

I worked on a 2006 Mazda 6 V6 a few weeks ago, it has a driveshaft/transmission tunnel that the exhaust is in. I haven't been under an MS6 but it looked big enough to hold a transfer case and driveshaft.
It would be a lot easier and maybe even cheaper to just buy an MS6 though.
>>13847427
The answer is always just buy a Mazdaspeed 6
I got an old 2003 mazda protege dx that's definitely outdone itself. It's got a fairly good pickup for being stock and the best part is that it has hit 180k miles without extremely few problems.
Love the shit out of my Familia S Wagon. I wish i could bring it back to the states.

> It would be a lot easier and maybe even cheaper to just buy an MS6 though.
Yeah, I know, but then I wouldn't have the cargo capacity of the hatchback. I've hauled a bunch of large and awkward items that won't fit in a sedan period.
>>13848507
Military?
Not sure if the engine is any different from the US models, but you could just get a Protege5 when you're back. Maybe find spare parts for any Japan specific options/trim you want to put on a US model.
>>13848550
Yup. On Okinawa.
It's got the Japanese market's FS-ZE engine.
I've looked into a Protege5 and possibly sourcing a FS-ZE engine but seems like it'll be more work than I've got time for.
