thats why my e30 is getting an m42 swap. with a turbo and a diesel crank... when i get the money. now im simply getting rid of the rust, swapping the m42 so that it finally has a good engine and getting rear discs.
I kind of like the idea of having a 316 that blows the doors off the original m3. and most m50 swaps. 220 turboed horses in lighter car will always be faster than a NA car with the same amount of hp due to extra torqqqq.

Dude with the S50 in the garage is doing it because he likes the 4 door E36's way better. Plus his 325i is black 5spd, and really clean (for an E36) and he has already bought M3 seats, bumpers, all sorts of stuff.

And he did decent on the donor car too since it was an automatic and yellow. Parted out all of that and barely paid anything for the engine in the end.

BMW fags on here get so mad when I post pics of the car because it is a 4-door with tons of M3 stuff on it. Once the engine is finally in it, it will basically be an M3.

There is some other 5spd gearbox he mentioned, I forget the name but Bimmer people always know. It's supposed to handle the power just fine without the 6spd tax.

S52 is ~80hp down on the Euro S50B32 because of American emissions laws. The S50 has ITBs, 11.5:1 CR, dual VANOS, and was basically an S54 with hydraulic lifters.

Do you have an M40 or an M10? I don't know much about euro market engine offerings but I do know the M40 is a pile of junk from all of the complaints I've read about it. The M10 is a good engine though, and if you have a 1.6L M10, you may want to consider swapping in and boosting an M10 instead, it would be cheaper, and it is lighter. M10s are strong as hell too, we had a guy in the US make 360whp on stock internals with one before he broke it. You could make 220whp easy with a refreshed M10 and you'd have the benefit of less weight and problems vs an M42. I haven't dynoed my car yet but I'm guessing I'm making over 220whp with it and it's fairly quick, I was neck and neck with a Golf R recently, and it's faster than an E36 M3, E46 330ci, 350Z, R32 Golf, Subaru WRX, and some other cars that are obviously modded so they aren't a good comparison.

The E30 came with good motors, aside from the M40 (garbage) and M42 (meh-tier). The M20 is the best engine for the car, and it came with it. M50s are heavier and less reliable, and most swaps to non BMW engines are either more trouble than they're worth and unbalance the relatively lightweight car. Just about the only non-bmw swap worth doing is an aluminum LS V8.
