I work at a fucking nissan dealership and today I replaced a CVT on a 2015 pathfinder with 3400 KM on it. We do atleast 5 trannies weekly and our storage room is piled ceiling high with CVT cores. Fuck off.

That man, while saving Nissan from bankruptcy, has single-handedly RUINED Nissan's entire line-up.
Everything with the CVT's is unreliable
All their FWD cars with manual transmissions available are shit to drive
The 370Z is going to become another crossover
The GTR is ugly and overweight

The only thing going for them is the new Nissan Titan, but that pales in comparison to the American trucks.

The only car Ghosn hasn't managed to ruin is the Skyline/G35/G36/Q50/Q60

The Chief engineer for the R32/R33/R34 GTR's actually wanted to use a VG30DETT instead of the RB series because it was lighter but the cost of modifying the chassis to accept a V6 made it unfeasible

S12s are very cheap, and not generally abused near as bad as S13s. They are pretty rare though. If you can find one pick it up and do an engine swap. They handle not as well as an S13, but pretty good. With a clutch type LSD they should drift good.

Z31 is good, is cheap and can go fast for cheap. They don't handle that well stock, but can when modified. You can swap the rear suspension from an S13 or Z32 into one, and that helps the handling a lot. With that swap they handle kind of like an S13, if it was made in 1984. Worse in every way, but still pretty good. They look way better than S13s though imo, can go faster for way cheaper and aren't as abused. With a good LSD and suspension mods they should be good tou-gay cars anyways.

S130 is pretty much the budget Z31. Same chassis, similar suspension, different looks and different engine. They don't handle as good as the Z31 because the chassis was stiffened and the suspension was tweaked for the Z31, but they are similar. Anything suspension wise that can be done to the Z31 can be done to the S130. The engine can't take near as much power as the VG in the Z31, but lot's of people like the L28 and can make enough power.

There are some more cars that are cheaper than the S13, but older and not really sports cars. Basically pretty much any Datsun will be alright if you can find a decent one, most of them are cheap except the S30 and 510 Blue Bird (the Sunny also had a 510. These are cheap). None of them have particularly great anything, but there is lots of info on them and everything has been done to them. If you want one of these just find one, drop whatever Nissan engine you want, brace the chassis and start tuning the suspension. Lot's of things have been done to these cars, can be done and need to be done to make them good. They are cool though, and probably worth it.

First off the R32-R34 had different chief engineers

Secondly, the R32 GT-R was from the start intended to be an inline 6. The RB26 was developed entirely for R32 GT-R to meet Group A requirements
At the time Nissan explicitly would not reintroduce the GT-R badge unless it was an inline 6 car.

Thirdly, I highly doubt a VG30DETT is any lighter than an RB26

http://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/engineweights.html list the VG30 from a 300ZX as 360lbs (165kg), which I presume is a dressed longblock. Going by the VQ numbers posted in http://www.gtrusablog.com/2012/02/how-much-does-rb26-weigh.html I presume that the 360 lbs number really is a dressed VG long block.

http://www.skylineowners.com/forum/21-tuning-technical-questions/144766-weight-rb26dett.html gives the RB 26 anywhere from 240 to 270 kilos dressed without the turbo's.

So, yeah, a VG30 would be lighter then the equivalent RB26. Not only that, it would also put the engine CoG waaaaaaaay back compared to that long i6.

That is the single cam VG engine, which is much lighter. Those numbers are still off, single cam VG engines are over 400lbs. A VG30DETT weighs something like 600lbs full dressed, and the transmission brings it over 700lbs. Not sure how accurate the numbers in that thread are but it wouldn't be much heavier or heavier at all than a VG30DETT. They are both really fucking heavy.
