>going to be vanishing in 2017

also since when is the viper faster than the 918?
>>
>>13791928
I posted the wrong Viper image. The new ACR is faster around Laguna Seca by about a second. Broke 13 track records.

I know this is just a shitposting thread but you do know the 25 year thing was the result of corporate greed, right?
>>

That's right. It needs to go around the Ring first.
>>
>>13791968
What's the 25 year rule?
>>
>>13791984
Yes I know. Smart buyers were bypassing Mercedes US and going direct to Yuro Mercedes, so US Merc got mega butthurt.
>>
100x uglier and shittier sounding with less comfort prestige and luxury

i dont think any Europe is btfo
>>
>>13792017
I agree that the Porsche does look better, but the viper is the coolest looking American car imo. So savage.
Yeah, it's not luxurious at all.

I've been in an ACR for a track session, it definitely does not sound good, drones horribly. Everything else is great though and Europe is most definitely BTFO

The newer vipers are a long ways away from the uncomfortable as fuck original ones.

That's like saying Rolex is BTFO by Casio because it essentially has the same features (telling you what fucking time it is) at 1/100th the price.

I doubt there's a difference in precision between the two nowadays. Any watchmaker that doesn't get the time right in the 21st century deserves to be out of business. In any case, that issue would be in the general reliability area and not in the refinement one.
>>
I love the new Viper. I wouldn't have it in ACR trim, I don't really enjoy what the spoiler and splitters do to the exterior aesthetics. I love the older generations too, but this new one is the perfect combination of simplicity and an actual interior. The old ones had an interior, but it was basically all the basic boxes ticked, the new one has an interior with simplicity alike but all the comfort you might want from a raw car like that

>>13796445
Basic engine design structure was based on the old 360/5.9 Magnum engines, with two extra cilinders. Dodge did what they could, and, because they owned LAmborghini at the timed, they decided to let the Italians design the material itself, and where to apply it(since you need different thinknesses for aluminium and cast iron, duh). Over the years, the Dodge engineers have added more power, cam-in-cam VVT, and trimmed away the excess material to lighten that block, because it was kinda overbuilt in the first two generations.
>>
>>13796494
No, the V10 Ram unit was based on the Viper engine, not the other way around. However, the Viper engine was loosely based on the old 360/5.9 Magnum architecture - not exactly a truck engine, but still.

Mainly they just cast the block in aluminum, worked on reducing weight, and sorted out the cooling system. When people hear that Lambo helped with the engine they assume they did all the work, but Chrysler actually did a lot.

>>13796541
The SRT10 Ram had the Viper engine. The V10 Magnum was an option in the heavy duty trucks.

Part electric motors add unneccesary weight.
Torque filling isn't needed when you've got a torquey motor, and no turbos to spool.
F1 tech is a marketing gimmick. F1 is so damn heavily restricted it's not even funny.
>>

>cheaper
No, it's already a bargain.
>smaller engine
Downsizing something that's known just for being big is a bad idea. Besides, competing against the Corvette isn't going to happen given the latter's sales volume, and Dodge's more limited resources.
>can be sold worldwide
It's being sold worldwide. The engine isn't the problem, it's just customer demand, and taxes in certain regions. You could try and avoid those, but it'd take away from the Viper's core concepts.

>>
>>13799891
Basically somebody found out it was cheaper to import mercs to the US instead of buying them hear from dealerships. Eventually more people started doing it, US based merc dealerships caught wind of this and then demanded the US federal government make that shit illegal. What they found to be the easiest way to achieve this was to enact a ban on importing cars to the US that arent at least 25 years old, at least as far as registering them for street use is concerned.

Thats what I understand to have happened, at least

How much does a Viper cost in your communist shithole, and why does it cost that much?
>>
>>13792012
Basically, Mercedes of America was pissed off that people were importing better Mercedes from Europe instead of buying the shit American variants. So they lobbied really hard and now, any vehicle under 25 years that was not designed for America(emissions, safety, LHD), cannot be imported.

It is possible for vehicles to be granted exemptions(show&display), or if someone imports enough of them to test and modify them to fit the requirements (see: Motorex)

This unfortunately did not only affect Mercedes and applies to ALL makers.

It doesn't seem like Viper's looks have hardly changed the past 15 years, but it looks gorgeous.

I'm going to be sad to see them go, especially now that they actually perform.
I don't get why they don't make a model that's like 65k that could actually cut into Corvette sales instead of hurr durr Hellcats.
>>
>>13814784
The new gen is a throw back to gen 1-2, because they ruined the looks of the gen 3.

There were plans of a Chrysler Firepower which was a V8 Viper, but that got canceled.

The 2011 ACR was 4s slower than the GT-R Nismo, and currently in 8th place.
Wouldn't be surprised out if this comes in just under the Nismo which would make it the third fastest production car as well as one of the cheapest of all those top lapping cars.

Just a matter of waiting for them to get it over in overpriced car land.
