What vans/years to avoid?

Should I just get a VW hippie mobile? Am I better off with a GM? Should I stick with the 2006-ish Econoline I saw in my price range?

Look for a Chevy Vandura or Ram B series van. Father has a 1998 Ram 2500 van and it has 528000 miles on a 318/727 no rebuild, no replacement. Only basic maintenance. Did one water pump at 187k, another at 450k. Alternator about 80k ago.
