boomer tax

it's worth about 1/3 of that
>>
>>11632941
Thanks.

Any specific reasons why it's worth less though?
>>
>>11632925
it is alright, not that great. post your local craigslist.
>>
>>11632925
No, this is a major trap.

Notice that we don't get any pictures of the engine bay, because it's probably a shit. They're literally banking on an idiot boomer with more money than sense buying this.

Get on CL and look for resto mustangs and you'll likely find one in similar shape for under $15k, and you'll actually be able to go look at those and see if you still think they're worth it.

I'm willing to drive around for 500~ miles if I see a good deal though.

They made hundreds of thousands of them.

It's not a limited edition or higher trim level or anything.

These things are nowhere near as rare as people seem to think they are.

Thanks anon

What are your thoughts on the first link?

What should I be looking for specifically so I don't get screwed over? Do you think I can bring him down lower?

I would also use the money I would save to buy stock rims and a red paint job.
>>
>>11633034
You could probably knock him down a few. heres what I would do when you see the car
>bring a mirror on a stick, or something so you can see the underside of the car. make sure that you don't see any rust down there
>if you do see rust, and it looks like it is just a hazy bit on the surface, you are probably fine
>if it looks like holes and rot in the frame and floor, determine whether or not you want to fix it. You can use this as a bargaining chip
>when driving, see if everything "feels" right
this could be a lot of things. does the engine stutter or is their a delay when you press the gas, that could be linkage isn't right or the carb needs to be cleaned

does the car track straight, if not use that as a bargaining chip.

paint defects, interior or upholstery problems

ask the owner if he has the original wheels. if not, ask him why. Say I like the car but I would like to go back to stock, and this isn't what I want but I like the rest of the car or something.
>listen for any strange clunks or groans. rattles will be there, the car is 50 years old.

I wouldn't recommend getting a paint job, this one looks pretty nice already but it is up to you. as for wheels and tires, I would recommend some Torq thrusts and some BFG rivals.

>ebay before boomers discovered it
>auction site to bid on cars and get great prices
>after boomers discovered ebay
>turning it into Craigslist with "buy it now" and listing retarded prices
>>
>>11633071
oh also, if you bring a magnet and wrap it in a thin cloth, it should stick to every body panel. if it doesn't then the car has had a lot of body work and that area is Bondo'd. probably rust or crash damage.
>>
>>11633071
>>11633086
Is rust that bad?

How much does it cost to fix that stuff? How much can I bring him down for rust depending on how much?

If I see it and see any problems, should I bring down the price but still buy it and use my left over money to a good shop to restore it?
>>
>>11633125
depends. if the frame is rotted just walk away. if it is floor panels, they cost about 360 for the set (http://www.cjponyparts.com/floor-pan-kit-cp-fb-1964-1968/p/FPK1/) and it would cost about 1 or 2 thousand to install in a shop.I don't think you have much to worry about with this car.

as for haggling, I would come over with 13.5k in hand, but tell him you have 13k right there right now cash in hand. then probably try to get hm to 13250.

and bondo'd body panels aren't bad, just you know they got rekt at one point
>>
>>11633148
Alright, thanks man. Much appreciated!

Built by boomers, for boomers.

Anyone out there ever met a boomer who's NOT a delusional moron? This guy is my mother's friend's husband. Has a '66 Mustang coupe he's been casually working on for several years now. Said to me once "You can spend 20, 30 grand restoring one of these things and it'll still only be worth 10."

Gave me some hope.

OP here

I don't know if you are still here but do you think I should get some modern mods done when I get the car? Such as brakes, threepoint harness, better seats etc etc?

What else would I need to make it 'feel' more modern?
>>
>>11632925
Lol you can buy decent coupes that may need a little motor or interior work for 5k.

Tell that boomer to fuck off
>>
>>11635665
Chip Foose pls, you don't buy a 1965 Mustang to have a modern feeling car. Get in a collision over 10mph you're breaking something or dying anyway.
>>
>>11632987
>They made hundreds of thousands of them.
try millions dude
>>
>>11632925
that car was like 3k new. total ripoff.
>>
>>11635913
I doubt it. When I was 15 you could buy a new Corvette for $10,000 and a Camaro for $4,000. I'm 51 now.
>>
>>11635920
http://www.1969stang.com/pricelist.html
>>
>>11635924
Yeah...it's just like 1964. Same in inline 6 I see...lol
>>
>>11636035
wut?
>>
>>11635888
I'm not looking for a new car feeling -- I'm just trying to modernize it a bit.
>>
>>11637656
If it was me I would convert at least the front brakes to disc if not the back too. Drum brakes a shit.

Other than that, no don't modernize it. Just enjoy the nostalgia and don't get rekt
>>
>>11637773
How bad are crashes anyways? Should I put a roll cage on it and a harness?
>>
>>11637879
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPF4fBGNK0U

about like this.
>>
>>11637879
From a couple minutes of Google search:
>No crumple zones
>No air bags (but who needs them anyway)
>Shit-tier gas tank protection
>Steering column shaped an awful lot like a spear

It's not a 5 ton luxobarge. If you get into a fender bender you'll live but a highway pileup or a soccer mom running a red in her fuckhuge SUV will fuck up your day.

You could do all kinds of safety upgrades but again, you're getting past the point of an old car. Just drive the fucker and don't be stupid/be in a place that you can get fucked up. Pretend you're on a bike and everyone wants to kill you.
>>
>>11637879
Shouldn't really worry about safety if you're driving a classic car.

Another thing, you should test drive one before buying to see if you really want it. My dad's dream car ever since he was a teenager was a 1969 Cougar, now that he is near retirement he test drove one, and he doesn't want it anymore. Years of driving modern cars made him realize how crap these classics really feel and drive.
