I was almost one. I narrowed down my used car search to an S60R and a jap shitbox. Ended up with the shitbox.

Corolla. The fun Corolla though.

But I'm making vague plans in my mind for getting an S60R in the near future. It looks comfortable and more than sporty enough for a daily. The one I saw was $8k for an 80,000 mile car. Looked immaculate, so I'm feeling conflicted about my choice. Like passing over the steady, intelligent and sane girl for the fun one who breaks down too often.

I own a Volvo 854R 96 Black on Black interior. Waiting two weeks to have it tuned and should have it back soon. Almost everything has been upgraded from the intake manifold and intercooler to fuel pump and koni suspenstion. Wont have to do any maintence for 5 years unless I fuck up and crash. She should be around 350 BHP maybe more we will see what this 20T turbo can do. Need a new dashboard thats the last thing I'm having a really hard time finding and it seems I may have to buy another car just to get a good dash and center console :(

B230F, just waiting for the winter to hit and the roads to be covered in ice for some hektik parking lot skids.
Paid 600 bucks for the thing, almost everything electronic is broken, dash is completely dead, all gauges are dead and the ODO stopped 200k ago at 368k.
Sway bar links are crumbling away, all 4 shock absorbers are leaking. Driver side window elevator was fucked, so it didn't go up nor down at all. It's fixed now though.
Then the amenities. There are none.
The oil fill cap leaks a bit, so the whole engine bay is covered in oil. Replaced the cap with a new one, but didn't clean out the bay, so it's covered in all kinds of shit.

Pretty much the only good part in this car is the engine and boy is that fucker ever so slow. Piece of shit starts up like it just rolled off the assembly line, doesn't lose a drop of oil, no unusual sounds or anything. It just works.
Some of the best 600 bucks I've ever spent.

Cap break from crankcase pressure or just old? I had to do my PCV on a whiteblock and my other whiteblock needs it too >.> at least its easy.
>>
>>11334534
As far as I know, the cap is supposed to have a rubber seal. Well, I think that rubber seal has either crumbled away or turned into hard plastic.
That much pressure to break the cap, shit man. I don't think that's a very good thing. Anyway, I doubt it very much that it's because of pressure. The car is over 20 years old and been sitting outside, unused for god knows how many years before I bought it.
>>
>>11334534
>>11334546
Wait, now that I think of it, shouldn't there be like negative pressure in the crankcase? So if that shit is spewing out from the cap, doesn't that pretty much mean that I do have pressure in there? Shit, I don't even know anymore, I'll have to go take a look.

Ye, you got it right. After the engine is warm you can pull up the dipstick or open the oil cap and look for smoke. If it is smoking it prob has high crankase pressure from a clogged PCV. But I saw rspi on youtube put a plastic bag over the oil filler hole to see if it blew out or sucked in which is a great idea.

I had a 240DL wagon a couple years ago that I turned into a gaming mobile. Spent $400 for the car, then bought a PS3, a 36" TV, and a mobile hotspot. I didn't do any of the wiring because I'm partially colorblind, so I'm not exactly sure how everything was hooked up. But I can say it was "the" car in high school, even though the thing looked like a turd. Don't have any pictures on me at the moment.

volvo 240, 740 and 850 are good choices with that kind of budget.

240's and 740's have redblock engines and are RWD, the things can be fun as fuck (if turbo'd/16 valve) and decently fun in winter stock because RWD rectangles on wheels. Plus they're virtually un-killable.

850's are FWD but certian models can haul some serious ass for cheap.

Naming is based off number off doors, so 242=240 2 door, 244=240 sedan and 245= 240 wagon.
>>
>>11346944
thanks for the info. that's a lot more simple than i thought it was haha
i'm have a really hard time finding one in my city though. there's every car here, except volvos. probably due to the fact that I don't even think we have any volvo dealers.

what does redblock engine mean? good? bad?
>>
>>11346771
Rule of thumb: If it has a letter in the name then don't buy it
>>
>>11346984
redblocks are notorious for being very reliable engines, they were 4 cylinder engines used for the 240 and 740's and are, well, red.

Guaranteed to make it over 300,000 k's with general maintenance (sometimes not even this is necessary)

Absolute rubbish not only that but the sheer amount they made of these cars makes its extremely unlikely . Market is heavily diluted with domestic and Japanese brands not Volvo

It might not be the best for fuel mileage on the road but it certainly isn't the worst.

I love Saabs more as a comfy drivers car, but you can't beat Volvo's old RWD fun toys especially since you can buy a 240 series for less than $600 in Sweden, and a 740 for even less since there's more of them.
But a 9-5 or a more agile 9-3NG or the older Sleeper9000 is my choice for driving.
>>
I just found this one extremely good looking 240 Volvo for, get this, 400 bucks.
Now, these things are quite cheap over here because they're like the second most common car after the 740.
I myself have a B230F 740 VOlvo currently and was thinking, is it worth selling it and getting that 2 litre 240 instead? The 240 is inferior in pretty much ever other aspect except looks, can't beat that design of the 240 in anyway.

Should I sell my 740 for the 240? Both cars have 380k km and more on the ODO, so mechanically neither of them have been broken in yet.
>>
>>11348814
why not both, 400 bucks is not that much

To be honest, I just asked my sister if she was okay with me getting a third Volvo. She wasn't all that thrilled with the idea.

Okay, I need to come up with a very, very, very good reason to buy that 240 Volvo.

can't you just get ride of one of the other six cars you own?
>>
>>11349233
5 cars and to be honest, I can't. The S40 is currently in the process of being stolen. My Benz is bought on credit and I'm still paying for it.
My parents use that piece of shit Hyundai currently. It's in my name, but they are paying for it and I can't just take it away from them.
The 740 obviously I can't sell and my Chrysler is my pride and joy. Basically I can't. I've been thinking about selling my ATV to make some room for that 240, but I still can't justify rolling around with 4 cars.

I have a few.

2005 S60R
1989 745Tic

Nope, just the S60R, 745Tic, 244 and had this 850 before the engine went bloop.

I stripped interior from the 850 after deciding it wouldn't cost effect to replace the engine. I did get to make some new furniture from the seats before selling the shell.

I had a '95 850 5 speed and had to get rid of it because it turned out to be a colossal piece of shit. Maybe in another life I'll find an s70 T5M that doesn't have 400k miles.
