Trump’s unpopularity threatens to hobble his presidency

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/12/donald-trump-favorability-232950
>>

In theory he should be in a strong position because his party will soon control all three branches of the federal government plus a majority of the state governments. The problem is he's on shaky footing within his own party which makes his majority in the Senate weak (they need near 100% party unity or they lose control) and could lead to loses in the House in two years. A lot of Republican control hinges on the next two years, since their momentum from 2018 may determine how the lines are drawn during the 2020 redistricting.
>>
The media and public's refusal to criticize Obama for pulling all kinds of bullshit was a bad thing. If Obama's reign is what a non-hobbled presidency looks like, then things should improve in the coming years. Because if the media actually looks critically at the government's actions maybe the government will feel pressured not to betray the American people so habitually.

Oh but wait, W Bush was an unpopular president too, but at the time the media wouldn't stop licking his butt and parroting obviously bullshit talking points. Two years from now the media will be doing nothing but praising trump, Breitbart will be the new "center" that the media gravitates towards. Watch how quickly the media changes their approach to Trump, and republicans in general, once he is in power.
>>
>>94381
Which is exactly why they should have chosen Ted Cruz but no - the candidate this election had to be a borish loud-mouthed idiot rather than somebody worthwhile.
>>
>>94382
> Watch how quickly the media changes their approach to Trump, and republicans in general, once he is in power.

Getting the world blown up doesn't lead to adulation from the media.
>>
>>94385
Literally nobody likes Ted Cruz. Even Lindsey Graham, the nicest guy in politics, threatened to murder Cruz on the senate floor, bragging that nobody would try to stop him. But it doesn't matter. any republican president is going to "work" with republican house and congress and enact their agenda. The president is supposed to be a PR figurehead, Trump will be more focused on framing republican actions to the public than influencing the actions.
>>
>>94386
The media didn't stop sucking w's dick after he started pointless wars and actually broke the world. In fact, the media was only concerned with calling anybody who disagreed with the stupid war effort a traitor and firing every talking head who spoke out.

>The media didn't universally revile Bush before or after Florida.
Yes they did.

They made a satirical animated show called Lil' Bush.

You live in a fantasy world dude.

>implying that 20 million illegals and dead people didn't vote for Hillary
>implying Hillary didn't have votes deleted from Trump

Obama was a chill, fairly likeable guy who let social justice run wild. The media loves to feel like they are making a difference, and Obama either encouraged that, or just stayed out of their way.

Trump, on the other hand, actively instigates shit with the media. Breitbart is universally reviled by mainstream media outlets, a fact they are actually proud of, so don't expect either Donald or his propaganda machine to either make friends or accept any.

Sorry, stormfronter, get ready for 4 years of sheer hatred. Assuming Dumbfuck doesn't screw up and get impeached. And considering the party saddled him with Pence, he could get kicked out just for lols
>>
>>94566
really bad bait, m8, I'd rate it a 1.75

>Obama was a chill, fairly likeable guy who let social justice run wild.
He was a wannabe reality TV star who didn't like being upstaged or being told no.

>Sorry, stormfronter, get ready for 4 years of sheer hatred.
>accuses Trump of running a propaganda machine
I have never seen people consistently project so hard anywhere else, than I have with people on this board. It like it's a containment board for center-left care bears.

Given the current trend of the MSM losing viewers, what do you think is really going to happen?
Trends are going to reverse and people are going to keep gobbling up MSM content, or they're going to continue to tune out and the left-wing propaganda machine that is the MSM is going to find itself significantly downsizing to adjust to it's new, diminished viewer base?

You think the anti-Trump movement- which is and always has been all talk- will last in a significant form for 4-8 years, let alone past the first 100 days of his presidency?

The incessant prattling about fake news and his impending impeachment is an obvious sign of insecurity and panic. The MSM tried to reject reality and substitute their own by creating a whole fictional narrative around Hillary's impending electoral sweep, and reality said "no."
>>
>>94586
>He was a wannabe reality TV star who didn't like being upstaged or being told no.

The fucking irony of you saying this is Obama. That perfectly describes Trump.
>>
>>94586
Viacom and Time Warner are competitors. Ask their shareholders. Every news channel you see on TV is corporate media owned by a multinational media company that is hardly "liberal" by /pol/'s definition of the word.
>>
>>94588
>The fucking irony of you saying this is Obama. That perfectly describes Trump.
It's both.

Obama spent years cultivating his cult of personality by appearing on talk shows and taking photos with celebrities and staging all sorts of corny public relations events and essentially turning the office into a 8 year long skit to cover up the fact that he deported more people than Bush, trashed the economy, lent his name to a redistribution scheme that has effectively broken the healthcare system even more than it was, and bombed and droned his way across the Middle East so hard he "accidentally" gave arms and assistance to ISIS.

You got duped my friend. The sooner you come to the realization, the sooner you can start rehab.
>>
>>94590
>Viacom and Time Warner are competitors. Ask their shareholders.
"Hey didn't attempt to merge the two company's last year?"
"Yeah."
"Right, just checking."
>>
>>94593
>You got duped my friend. The sooner you come to the realization, the sooner you can start rehab.
Spoken like a true conspiracy theorist
>>
I'm pretty sure in 4 years there's gonna be a massive swing in the left direction, Shillary2.0 is gonna run for office and libs will come out of the woodwork to vote in droves, kinda like rednecks and hillbillies came out to vote in droves in this election. The next candidate is gonna be a lot worse than hillary but I almost guarantee in 4 years we'll have a liberal president, people are gonna be so sick of trump's empty promises lol
>>
>>95287

Hmmm

>everyone I don't like or who disagrees with me is conspiracy theorist
Spoken like a true center-left Facebook dweller.
>>
Guys, lets be honest. It has nothing to do with Obama or Trump, as long as most of population is uneducated in political science or law, it won't matter who is president as there will always be a filibuster in congress. And true, a president can 'control' the House of Representative for 2 years like Obama did, it doesn't mean shit if it doesn't pass through congress. And only way we can pass through congress? If we have an educated enough population to CARE about politics and the in/out of its working so we get filibuster-proof for more than 4 months like Obama had.
>>
>Trump’s unpopularity
>unpopularity

Yet, he managed to get voted as president over Hillary?

The media is spinning this Trump hate because the people in control of the media simply don't like him, also it makes for good sensational "news" for people to consume.

Wants to deport illegal immigrants, who happen to be from Mexico, or at least the majority are.
Well, he must hate Mexicans then, right?
If they came from outer space, we would still deport them, it doesn't matter.
Although, you don't hear about an illegal European immigrant problem, right?
Nope, they happen to come from Mexico and therefore, not white, so Trump is put on auto-racist.
>>
All the racist madness of late is because of outside parties, like the KGB.
We have a higher degree of ethnic diversity in this country, so what better way to destabilize us than to have us going at ourselves?
They did it during the Vietnam war with the hippie movement.
Destabilized from the inside, it fucks us up.
The media is controlled by people who want us to destroy ourselves so there is little mess to clean up, then the fuckers can waltz in and take what's left.
No bombs, but maybe a few bullets, and it will be an almost quiet war.
It's half over right now if shit continues the way it is.
Trump better wake up to this and do something about it.
>>
>>95304

Actually if you look at the popular vote numbers, Obama lost roughly 4 million votes between his two elections. A similar slide with Trump's votes between years would loose him his reelection (unless that 4 million drop occurs in only states he can afford to lose, in which case he would be the only president in history to win twice without the popular vote assuming Democrat numbers held steady like they did from 2012 to 2016).

Of course this is entirely theoretical, who knows there might be an increase if Trump does well.

>>95451

I disagree, letting one party control everything is usually a sure sign of disaster. What we need more is for the two parties to be able to compromise on the most basic things instead of going full contrarian every time and stonewalling what should be bipartisan agreement. This requires a lot less work than educating the entire population since it's just giving 700 politicians elementary school life lessons: learn to share you stupid shits.
