The infamous President Duterte has dabbled at the idea of declaring martial law due to the recent Davao City bombing, which he was once mayor of. The martial law dabble is also in direct contrast to Former President Ferdinand Marcos, who first implemented martial law on the Philippines back in 1972.

Fuck, dude. A lot of Filipinos come to my store to send money to their relatives back home and this worries me. How the fuck did this asshole get into power?

70% trust rating and pretty much a unique president that kinda gives the finger to the church without remorse. Also he was the mayor of a town called Davao, which garnered publicity due to low crime rates and the rumors that he had a death squad come and murder the druggies for the duration of his mayorship, earning him the nickname "The Punisher".

Short sighted people think it's a great idea to bring in a leader who sends death squads at bad guys right up until he starts changing bad guys to mean anybody who threatens his power. Boy did he start doing that quickly.

It's inevitable but so far no one's complaining loud enough to create an impeachment complaint.
I'll give it two years if he makes even more questionable decisions and badmoouthing.

I'd be legitimately surprised if someone makes a ruckus and doesn't mysteriously become connected to drugs and get killed by Duerte's squads.

Depends on the person. Right now the person getting pushed to the wall, a senator, has had businesses with the local jails and is now being connected to the drug trades, accused of having her drug connections-slash-lovers pay for her campaign (complete with a sex video). She has been ousted as a senator but her trials are still ongoing. Other publicized drug-related stuff includes our local actors and actresses getting raided and found guilty of drugs. A couple were made into mild memes like the one guy found with a kilo of marijuana.
Finally a month ago, the president publicly apologized that some parts of the drug matrix his top police force produced has had faults, causing a slight divide over the people as the president admitted that he has made a mistake and cost some bad publicity towards the innocent accused.

Filipinos abroad naturally do that. The exchange rates basically fund the Philippine Economy.
Plus a bonus, they think they're already middle class because of colonial mentality -- the fact that they're still sending money, not even close.
