Hawaii Supreme Court blocks construction of telescope on sacred

I don't understand the uproar. Aren't there already several telescopes on Mauna Kea? Why are people upset about one more?

Telescope puts further sanctions and occupies land that are inaccessible to the native people. Not profitable for anyone either other than star-gazing which they could just choose another mountain if they wish. Somewhere other than Hawaii.

"Star-gazing" isn't the whole truth as to why it's being put there. Telescopes are our only way right now to get actual data about space, since we can't go out to the stars yet to look at them close-up. Further, the reason that they can't move to another mountain is because Mauna Kea has certain geological advantages that make it almost perfect for telescopes.
