>Putin accuses Ukraine of 'terror' over alleged Crimea raid

>Russian security agencies said on Wednesday that two Russians were killed as they thwarted Ukrainian commando raids into Crimea over the weekend.
>Ukrainian officials angrily denied any such incident had taken place and accused Mr Putin of seeking a pretext for war, in an exchange that raised fears of a renewal of the levels of confrontation that marked the annexation of Crimea and outbreak of war in east Ukraine in 2014.

Retard time: what does Russia explicitly get our of this war? More control, like Putin's a fucking straight up warmongering dictator? Does Ukraine have really good natural resources or something?
>>
>>66140

Might be resources, I don't really know.

All I do know is that it's intensely easy to justify this to Russians, because the southeast portion of Ukraine is something like 80% Russian themselves, a ethnic remnant of the Soviet days where the USSR would take Ukrainians out, put Russians in, and make them fugg to create more Russians. Especially in areas like Sevastopol and Donetsk.
>>
>>66142
Wait, if Ukraine is 90% Russian's, wouldn't the proper Russian people be losing their shit over bombing basically their own people?
>>
they did not, there is no need to
>>
>>66143

>Wait, if Ukraine is 90% Russian's, wouldn't the proper Russian people be losing their shit over bombing basically their own people?

Because the areas in Ukraine that have ethnically Russian peoples in them have already been secured by the seps/russians. They aren't bombing Russians, they're bombing Ukrainians and the Ukrainians are bombing back.
>>
>>66145
So Ukraine Ukraine is fucked, yeah? What was Russia's pretense to this shit anyway? Is anyone heavily on Ukraine's side or is most places staying out because of how remote this stuff is?
>>
>cucks in that other thread saying Russia isn't the bad guy anymore

Weeeeeeew laaaaaad
>>
>>66147
Ukraine has, sadly, always been fucked. The modern issues we see between the two countries are really just a continuation of a cycle that's lasted for practically all of Russia's existence.

It's in Russia's best interest to keep Ukraine under its belt. Not only does Ukraine have access to the Black Sea, but it's bountiful in resources. A subservient Ukraine also extends Russia's defensive buffer against Western Europe.

Putin drew the Attention of the United States that Ukraine turns to terror. Another statement: "From the Russian side, in the course of preventing a terrorist attack in Crimea, died two soldiers. We this do not forgive." Next Putin said about preparation of a terrorist attack of Ukrainian special services in the Crimea (and canceled the meeting in Norman Format G20 - makes no sense).

They stop the US from setting up more "missile defense systems" on another border like we do with other buffer countries. This whole thing started when the CIA got caught helping a pro-American win the election in ukraine.
>>
>>66140
>>66172

The key things Russia wants out of the Ukraine is the Sevastopol naval base in Crimea. This is the only major port they hold that doesn't freeze during the winter and gives them access to the black sea. When the old pro-Russian Ukrainian president was deposed (remarkable in itself because by most accounts he was still in control of the situation, the protestors weren't at his door or anything), Russia feared that this would lead to the loss of their naval base. So, they seized the entirety of Crimea with unmarked soldiers (still in uniform with official gear but patches and ID removed) pretending to be "militia" (compare them to the protestors who were in jeans and tracksuits with maybe a rifle to supplement the molotov cocktails and stolen riot shields) under the guise of securing independence for the Crimean peoples. They then held an election with these guys guarding the election booths with no international observers allowed and the result of this election was that Crimea would join Russia "as it has always been the property of Russia" (never mind that this argument is garbage, by this logic France could retake Louisiana because they owned it in the past but sold it to America).

So now the Russians hold Crimea despite zero international recognition, but now they have a problem. Crimea isn't self-sustainable: all of its electrical power an fresh water come from mainland Ukraine. Crimea isn't connected to Russia by any land route so they can't bring in anything from there. Building new power plants and water processing facilities takes time, is expensive, and isn't guaranteed to generate sufficient quantities. So, here comes the big gamble: what if, by the same methods used to seize Crimea, the eastern half of the Ukraine could be annexed? This would give a land route to Crimea, and would cripple a newly hostile power even further. And thus the conflict in eastern Ukraine began.
>>
>>66234

However, realizing their mistakes in Crimea (namely "rebels" in Russian uniforms with Russian weapons and FUCKING HELICOPTERS) they actually tried to outsource the "rebels" to make them, well, actual rebels. This worked well enough at first because the Ukrainian army was a total shitshow: they had ancient gear from the Soviet era, they had just undergone a political revolution, and their leadership was horribly corrupt and incompetent. However it soon became clear they had bitten off more than they could chew as the political revolution calmed down the Ukrainians became more dedicated an organized. Plus the recent embarrassment of Crimea had hardened the resolve of some more hardcore Ukrainians (both good and bad) and these volunteer units were shredding eastern rebels.

So now the Russians had to step in for real. At first it was just advisors, then it was weapon systems, but then it became units who were "lost," and then it became full on artillery barrages from across the border. It's under these conditions that the Malaysian flight was shot down, as the Russians had gotten reckless with the amount of equipment they were lending out without regard for user training or rules of engagement. Soon after that incident the war calmed down as Russia feared causing enough international incidents that its involvement would be undeniable. Now a ceasefire prevents anyone from making any big moves without causing another shitstorm, but of course there are plenty of "small" violations to try and push the line to victory.

And that's why Russia is in the Ukraine: because they wanted one single naval base, and now that shit just went out of control.
>>
>>66234
>They then held an election with these guys guarding the election booths with no international observers allowed and the result of this election was that Crimea would join Russia

The referendum in Crimea complied with the international standards, fully responsible democratic procedures. This was stated by ITAR-TASS the head of mission of international observers Mateusz Piskorski (Poland).
>>
>>66234
You didn't think that Kiev simply wants to regain the Crimea, for this reason he satisfied terrorist attacks?
>>
>>66143
Russia not bombed Ukraine. Ukraine is a US puppet. Puppets of the USA bombed all who ordered. There are two options - not to react or to bomb the puppets.
>>
>>66241

I just wanted to answer the question of what Russia wanted to gain from the Ukraine. I haven't actually read any of the articles in the OP.
>>
>>66244
1) I support the return of Crimea in structure of Russia (gave it to Ukraine Khrushchev, Khrushchev was Ukrainian...). There are several reasons: the availability of good port for the black sea Fleet based (in Russia build their own, but it is long and expensive), tourist business (in Ukraine, it was very bad - I was there and saw it myself), no problems with the lease of territories for military bases. In the Crimea there are the factories and many monuments of culture from the Russian tsars (Castles and palaces are very beautiful, as in France).
2) I support the protection of the Russian population in the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk. The problem can be solved in the beginning, without using the army - Putin offered to sit at the table of negotiations militias and the Ukrainian authorities. Ukraine refused.
3) Ukraine and its backers violate international law. Also, the OSCE mission commits a violation of the Minsk agreements. Yesterday unbelievable happened - Ukraine tried to carry out terrorist attacks in Russia as did the Chechen terrorists.
Russia wants from Ukraine is adequate to the neighbor who keeps his word, pays debts, is not satisfied with the terrorist attacks and knows how to communicate.

The detainee admitted that he was part of a group that was preparing terrorist attacks. The saboteurs were so close to the ferry, Feodosia tank farm, city Dzhankoy, helicopter regiment and a chemical factory "Titan". Panov also said that he had received remuneration for inspection of these facilities.

(12.08.2016) Permanent representative of Russia to the UN Vitaly Churkin on the Security Council consultations have provided member States with information about the incidents in Crimea and made a statement from the Russian foreign Ministry on this issue. He called a useful Meeting of the UN security Council, reports "Interfax".
>>
To me this seems like a perfect storm:
-Likely a manufactured Casus Belli of saboteurs
-Diversion off of a conflict with the US elections and Olympics
-Obvious tract of desirable land between contested DPR and Crimea
-Russian Maskirovka use in Crimea, and Eastern Ukraine already.
-No formidable hawks in power in any NATO country, and right before the ostensibly more hawkish Trump or Clinton are elected
-NATO is still in a weak position in Europe (but slowly rebuilding)
-Rumors of 4 divisions worth of troops in Crimea, an ongoing strategic airlift to Crimea, increasing clandestine radio traffic and buildup on eastern border under the Guise of wargames.
>>
>>66265
-NATO holds exercises in Ukraine near the Russian border.
-USA sends its ships in the black sea (the failed show of force, KEK).
-Ukraine supported Nazi sentiment, violates the Minsk agreement.
-Poroshenko, after an unsuccessful attack, was ordered to lead his army in combat readiness.

Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held telephone talks with Minister of foreign Affairs and international development of France Jean-Marc Ayrault.

During the conversation, the politicians discussed the emergency situation caused by subversive action of the armed forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the territory of the Crimean Federal district.

According to the Russian foreign Ministry, Lavrov said that what happened in Crimea should encourage "our international partners to more vigorous impact on the Ukrainian leadership," but also warned Kiev against dangerous steps that can have negative consequences.

In Siberia it is impossible to build good roads, no technology. After a long winter and -60 degrees, summer starts and the snow starts to melt.
Snow hold for a very long time, for example, you are driving down the road 60 miles - all dry and OK. But, after 60 kilometers you see a lot of water on the road - is snow that didn't melt. This "wet" the road may reach a length of 30-40 kilometers. Then again dry, and then water...

The Prosecutor of the Crimea Natalia Polonskaya sure that the Kiev authorities are not able to recognize its direct relationship to the preparation of terrorist acts and sabotage on the Peninsula because of cowardice.

Poklonski stressed that in this way it is possible to once again look at the criminal face of the Ukrainian government. According to her, even the fact that they came to power through a coup, shows their cowardly position. The authorities of Kiev can't even muster the courage to confess to the crime.

Can I just ask the faggorts in his thread who know: why in darkest fuck do some people, people well versed in the politics of this conflict even, say "the Crimea" or "the Ukraine". We wouldn't say "the Germany" is attacking "the France", but then we might say "the Mississippi River" flows thru "the Midwest". For as many people as I have met who say they're from Ukraine, I've just never heard anyone say they're from "the Ukraine".
>>
>>66712

>"The Ukraine" was once the usual form in English,[25] but since the Declaration of Independence of Ukraine, "the Ukraine" has become much less common in the English-speaking world, and style-guides largely recommend not using the definite article.[26][14] "The Ukraine" now implies disregard for the country's sovereignty, according to U.S. ambassador William Taylor.[27]

I was curious so I went and looked it up. I just used it because I've seen others use it that way. If I had to guess further, it's because it used to refer to a region instead of a formal state. I don't use and haven't even seen "the Crimea" but I managed to find something on that too:

>In English usage since the early modern period the Crimean Khanate is referred to as Crim Tartary.[6] The Italian[7] form Crimea (and "Crimean peninsula") also becomes current during the 18th century,[8] gradually replacing the classical name of Tauric Peninsula in the course of the 19th century. The omission of the definite article in English ("Crimea" rather than "the Crimea") became common during the later 20th century.[citation needed]

The proper form is "the Crimean Peninsula" so perhaps people forget to cut off the "the" when removing the "Peninsula."
