North Korea is a totalitarian shithole, though probably not quite as much of one most westerners think (most people believed that Kim Jong Un passed a law forced all NK men to have his haircut). That said the sanctions mostly impoverishes the people and reinforces the persecution by the American empire propaganda narrative that the NK government uses to maintain power.

The only places where these sanctions are really hurting anybody is in Pyongyang and the military structure, so it looks and sounds worse than it actually is.
Ideologically, nobody outside of Pyongyang gives a shit about the Juche ideal the Kim dynasty has been pushing since Kim Il Sung, unless they have to deal with party members and police/military. But because Pyongyang is the central hub through which the national identity is represented, most of the world--particularly America--thinks the entire country is like Pyongyang. North Korea is still a legitimate threat to the East Asian region, but the vast majority of the country is just trying to get by.

Man the fucking South Korean cops are actually patrolling and doing their jobs now because of Norkie whining, and now traffic is all fucked up. We should have let the North win, fuck this backwards shithole.
