NK is exactly like the crazy guy who goes into a mall with a gun. Aims it at everyone, shouting, and threatening to shoot people. While he may fire some warning shots, he never actually shoots anyone for a long time, as things escalate between police and him shouting at each other. The North Koreans have only two options; bluff or be utterly destroyed.

There is no middle ground, the N.Koreans can't launch any kinda attack without massive retaliation by the U.S. and South Korea, while China sits on the sidelines (as they flat-out told the N.Koreans) and the U.S. has no need to launch any kinda attack, as it can choke North Korean into submission with sanctions.

Trump doesn't have the power to. He could get up tomorrow and say that's it, we are nuking NK right now and the military would just get up and tell him to go fuck himself as would everyone else in power. Nuking NK would be no different to america committing suicide. It would cause them to lose their grip over what is basically their territory which is basically the entire world. The only danger is whether NK is willing to stay true to its asian bloodline and go banzai on american ass.

North Korea just grand standing again, but I really wish that America or better SK would pull the trigger. North Korea does not have the resources to fight a protracted war with the US and South Korea, and really I have heard estimates that within a completely isolated conflict they would not be able to support themselves for more than a few weeks before the whole infrastructure would cave in behind them. Yes they have military numbers in sheer man power, but manpower alone cannot stand up to very advanced military technology and as long as the South could hold the borders, the DPRK would eventually have to capitulate, or starve.
Then the real trouble would begin.
You have a population of highly indoctrinated people who would flood into South Korea or China neither of which wants the flood of what is essentially starving and uneducated peasant that would do more harm than good either in becoming welfare burdens for either of those states, or radicals that would need to be watched by the government to prevent leftist terror.
However I do think that the Norks if given the chance and the funding could become a productive part of a unified Korea. China would have to give up some of its border security. America would be able to finally withdraw some of its military presence.
But it needs to be soon, the moment NORK has a nuke and a missile that they can use, they will basically never be overthrown, as they will use it at every opportunity.
