>Baltimore news outlets have published body cam video from a supposed drug bust back in January. The video appears to show a cop planting drugs in a trash pile, before going back to the road, activating his body camera, and “finding” the drugs that supposedly belonged to a suspect.
>The cop was using a model of body cam that constantly captures and buffers footage, so that when you press the record button, it saves the previous 30 seconds of footage.
>Presumably unaware of this feature, the cop accidentally films himself placing a baggie of pills in an empty can in a yard filled with trash. The officer then goes back out to the sidewalk with two other cops, presses record on the body cam, and is then heard saying “Hey, let’s check over here.”
>The officer is seen “discovering” the bag of pills in record time, before coming back out to the road and turning the camera off. The drugs — and the officer’s testimony of finding them — were to be used in a case against a suspect. After reviewing the video, a public defender brought up the apparent planting of evidence to the prosecutor in the case. Charges were subsequently dropped, and some kind of investigation is ongoing, although the Baltimore Police Department has refused further comment.
>Body cams have become more and more prevalent among cops in recent years, although policies around when they should be recorded and how evidence should be disclosed are still working out. Cases like this show how some police officers appear to be manipulating the cameras (however badly!) to try and manipulate evidence, showing that they’re far from the perfect solution that some have hoped for.

Great. This is exactly why we need cams.
lord have mercy, imagine if he planted cp instead

Better ones, yes. A few seconds more or a smarter cop and there would be a innocent in a lot of trouble.
>cop caught planting drugs
>/news/ doesn't care
Fucking bootlickers
>>159335
True. Ideally police would be forced to have the camera on while on duty with the video being saved to a server which the department has no access to.

>Hey over here we have a cherry picked example of a radical leftist, let's respond by talking about how we should kill all Muslims
>This misconstrued study proves Trump was right!
>Let's distract from Russia with an article alleging the Dems did something similar sounding. With a little false equivalency, anything is possible.
The Washington times and Fox news do the same shit

It's more of a "well that's pretty much what I expected" situation so what's there to discuss?

And even if they wanted to store an entire day's footage locally on the cam itself for review they could, super cheaply on low-def, with the standard def reserved for "recorded" footage, and the daily footage is never reviewed and soon purged unless an arrest is made and it is subpoenaed.
Of course once officers know how a new system works they can find a new way to fuck someone over -- casually cover the body cam with a your hat while you plant the drugs, or do it the day before.

Exactly, having multiple copies would do wonders to ensure the footage is unaltered prior to any investigations. Not sure if I want the general public to have constant access to police whereabouts for safety reasons though. I just see a scenario where criminals begin tracking police activity in real time and either use it to avoid or ambush the officers.

There are always going to be people who game the system. That being said, making it more difficult for them to do so is definitely a worthy cause. Using multiple cameras which store information and placing them in difficult to obstruct areas should help.

While I agree with the intent of your post, it came off a bit too biased. /news/ has devolved into /pol/ bait articles and people taking such comically absurd stances to "troll" they may as well be living strawmen.

fuck you Baltimore!
