>The criminalization of political speech and activism against Israel has become one of the gravest threats to free speech in the West. In France, activists have been arrested and prosecuted for wearing T-shirts advocating a boycott of Israel. The U.K. has enacted a series of measures designed to outlaw such activism. In the U.S., governors compete with one another over who can implement the most extreme regulations to bar businesses from participating in any boycotts aimed even at Israeli settlements, which the world regards as illegal. On U.S. campuses, punishment of pro-Palestinian students for expressing criticisms of Israel is so commonplace that the Center for Constitutional Rights refers to it as “the Palestine Exception” to free speech.

>But now, a group of 43 senators — 29 Republicans and 14 Democrats — wants to implement a law that would make it a felony for Americans to support the international boycott against Israel, which was launched in protest of that country’s decades-old occupation of Palestine. The two primary sponsors of the bill are Democrat Ben Cardin of Maryland and Republican Rob Portman of Ohio. Perhaps the most shocking aspect is the punishment: Anyone guilty of violating the prohibitions will face a minimum civil penalty of $250,000 and a maximum criminal penalty of $1 million and 20 years in prison.

>The bill’s co-sponsors include the senior Democrat in Washington, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, his New York colleague Kirsten Gillibrand, and several of the Senate’s more liberal members, such as Ron Wyden of Oregon, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, and Maria Cantwell of Washington. Illustrating the bipartisanship that AIPAC typically summons, it also includes several of the most right-wing senators such as Ted Cruz of Texas, Ben Sasse of Nebraska, and Marco Rubio of Florida.
>>
Amazing that anyone can actually support something like this in the first place
>>
Damn jewish overlords running our world.
>>
And there are people who try to claim it is the Jews who are oppressed by society.
>>
'The Resistance' lol
>>
This is full on anti first amendment.

I want to say such a measure will never become a law, but this is planet Earth we live on and crazier things have happened.

That's horrible but if they did, wouldn't the courts just declare the legislation unconstitutional if it were ever enforced?
>>
>>159767
We better hope, but don't count on it. The supreme court has already expanded the commerce clause to the point where the law can practically force whatever they want on people when it comes to regulating away liberties in favor of the almighty dollar and government power.
>>
>>159767
is it not bad enough that so many of our legislators would even try?
>>
>>159793
I don't know what is more outrageous, the fact that they sponsored this or the excuse being given by those legislators who have been contacted who've responded by claiming total ignorance of what they were putting into law.

>Perhaps most stunning is our interview with THE PRIMARY SPONSOR of the bill, Democratic Sen. Benjamin Cardin, who seemed to have no idea what was in his bill, particularly insisting that it contains no criminal penalties.

>Law literally states “Violations would be subject to a minimum civil penalty of $250,000 and a maximum criminal penalty of $1 million and 20 years in prison.”
>>
>>159770
Most people dont realize this but it doesnt really matter if there is legislation upheld by the courts, the ultimate say-so goes to jurors. If Jurors will not convict a person based on a law, then the law will be repealed.
>>
>>160493
>Most people don't realize this
That is the part that truly does matter though. Judges will not tell you about Jury Nullification, and the prosecution and district attorney absolutely will not inform the jury of this.

In fact that is considered one of the best ways to get out of jury duty, just start talking about jury nullification and you will probably be rejected, because they sure as hell don't want to waste their resources in holding a jury hearing or court trial with someone in the jury who could wreck the whole operation.
>>
>>161170
>just start talking about jury nullification and you will probably be rejected

Enjoy getting slapped with a contempt of court charge (it has happened).
>>
>>161262
>Contempt of court
>When jurors are being picked
If you got picked already maybe but getting out of jury duty isnt grounds for criminal charges. They are picking 8-12-16 people that can be conviced something is/isnt a crime entirely on the lawyers words. If you are on a jury you are the perfect level of mediocre. Not dumb enough to say racist shit to the lawyers not smart enough to say racist shit to the lawyers.
>>
>>161266

I’m 49 years old and served on two juries and have heard the myth of “just say jury nullification!” for almost 20 years now on the Internet.

You don’t fuck with judges.
>>
>>161269
Im 24 and was kicked off 2 juries for being excited to be on a jury. "Just say Jury Nullification" is bad advice. You have to hint at your knowledge so that they dont want to. Just rolling up and saying jury nullification like a sovereign citizen will be as bad as not showing up at all
>>
>>161280

I was 22 when I got picked by Macomb County Circuit Court (Michigan) for a child molestation case and figured I’d never get picked because I was too young and didn’t read the back of the jury summons that said “WEAR A SUIT, DUMBASS!” but they picked me anyway and we sent the guy up the river and afterward, found out it was his 3rd time in court for the same charges but the prior two little girls had frozen up on the stand.

The second time was for the 37th District Court in Warren when I was in my 30s, but none of us actually had to sit thru a trial, as on the first day all the defendants (parents in child truancy cases) promised to get their shit together and the next day, the subpoenaed witnesses (Blacks, of course…) never showed up, so arrest warrants were issued for them and we all went home.

The third time I got a jury notice was in 2008 when my mom was in the hospital dying and I called up and pitched a bitch about being picked again and how this was the worst possible time, etc. and they let me off the hook.

But I enjoyed serving on a jury and found it an interesting experience which taught me one import lesson; you NEVER want to be a defendant.

Juries are like mushrooms; kept in total darkness and feed only horse shit, yet they have to make a life altering decision (for someone else).

Pfft so what? This generation has allowed leftism to fester and allow this type of anti-western nonsense to spread. Good. People talk too much shit. Go ahead and cry about "muh rights". Fuck your rights. Israel has a right to defend itself.

Yeah, when I was on one they never even explained what the charge meant and we had to rule on how they did or didn't violate it.

This.
Thank fuck for once that these politicians are doing something useful for a change. I'm sick of the left putting down Israel. They are traitors to this country and I am glad that U.S. lawmakers are going to shut down the left for good.

Yeah, how dare people be upset that an outside force is occupying a country's land, promoting segregation of the local people and killing people wantonly over racial and religious differences...
