Personally I think he's a twat. The price hikes mostly didn't affect end-users, only the prices charged to insurance, but that was never the point. If he never got caught, then he wouldn't have said messing with insurance was the point. The end goal was scamming several entities out of a lot of money, which is definitely ethically questionable.
If he did the same thing with, say insulin, then there would be a huge uproar. He was pretty smart though, I'll give him that, in that he went for a relatively unknown and underdeveloped market that was still extremely needed.
