In a series of interviews conducted over the course of two years, airing this month on Showtime, Russian President Vladimir Putin told documentary filmmaker Oliver Stone in July 2015 that he believes the CIA was instrumental in the creation of Al Qaeda, and have used Islamic terrorist groups to destabilize Russia.

His plan was bigger than just to defeat the Soviet Union in Afghanistan, his plan was basically regime change in Soviet Union [sic].

we all know the CIA created Al Quaeda and similar islamic groups as a hard counter to communist ideology and influence in the middle east
(and has continued to use islamic groups as proxies as recently as the infamous "syrian rebels" everyone wanted to give weapons to)

the problem is that the moment the US got involved and started talking about arming the syrian rebels, it was painfully obvious they weren't actually some democratic freedom fighting force, but fucking islamic terrorists. And then the US shut their mouths really quick when they along with others, started forming ISIS.

Are you seriously suggesting that the US funding Al Qaeda is a lie? We fucking know they did, they fucking said they did, they fucking bragged about it all throughout the 70s as they were training these people to fight against Russia and Communism, before learning that it was a bad idea to piss off a bunch of psychopaths you TRAINED to be really good at causing chaos for large powers trying to get a foothold in the middle east.

Well... That was more the Mujahdeen which only later allied themselves with Al Queda because one of their "charasmatic American educated freedom fighters" was Saudi and had ties to Wahabbist extremists. We supported this dude because back in the day we would have rather had an American educated psychopath leading these guys than a backwards Pashtun caveman psychopath. This seemed like a good idea right up until he bombed WTC in 1994.
Our real mistake was allowing oil companies to bankroll Wahabbism in Saudi Arabia back in the 50s. These people define their religion entirely by the fact that they beheaded more dudes in the early days of Islam than anyone else and therefore have larger penises. Honestly funding them at the time was an honest mistake based on the gentle savage fallacy.
