Any art that wants some semblance of cultural quality control needs to have an international federation that oversees regional chapters who do quality control and instructor certifications, as best demonstrated by the Asian martial arts. They also need decent, modest PR campaigning to ensure that people understand that their cultural base is the one to seek out in practicing their art. For example, if India's Cultural Exchange wants to have more of a say in the promotion of yoga, as they have said they do, they should say to Hollywood that in future movies any depiction of yoga should be at Indian-federation-approved schools and use traditional terminology, and anything like "dog yoga" should be called "dog yoga-based exercise" or something, and Hollywood being all liberal will be more than happy to accommodate.

Anyway, that's my strategy pitch and take on the cultural appropriation bullshit.
