>America's biggest oil company told the White House it believes the Paris agreement is an "effective framework for addressing the risks of climate change" and the U.S. should remain a party to it.

>Exxon (XOM) said the country is "well positioned to compete" under the terms of the Paris deal, which was reached in late 2015 with the goal of slowing global warming. President Obama hailed the agreement as "the moment that we finally decided to save our planet."

>Exxon has a complex and controversial history with climate change. The energy giant is being investigated for allegedly misleading the public and shareholders about what it knew about the dangers of climate change.

>But in 2007 Exxon admitted publicly that climate change poses risks and said it's responsible to begin working on ways to reduce emissions.

lol Exxon has massive problems on the oil market because oil price plunged down.

Is it not telling that a company who would greatly benefit from continued drilling and oil exploration is telling you not to continue drilling and oil exploration, that something is very awry?
>>
>>126694
this was my take on it as well.
you know you fucked up when big oil says you shouldn't pollute so much.
>>
Well, I suppose it makes sense that even the investors of a corporate multinational have some vested interest in not turning the planet into a barren wasteland.
Those sorts may fund anti-EPA propaganda but at least some of them are surely intelligent enough themselves to understand the stakes.

It's probably too early to jump to these conclusions though. Surely many of them are also betting on some oil-industry friendly technological solution to mitigate the risk to their family's future to arise, including but not limited to off-world colonization to save them.
>>
That's certainly a start, but the paris agreement is flaccid when it comes to provisioning for actual enforcement.
That's the only way they were able to get US congressional approval of its terms in the first place.
This may as well be a propaganda victory; we should wait and see whether it actually makes a significant difference in our regulations.
If the agreement stays intact and we're simultaneously squeezing every hydrocarbon out of our tar sands then this isn't going to mean much.

don't be a stooge for Big Science

>coal
>low energy yield
>high social and environmental cost
>poor transportability
>no higher value products can be derived from it

why do people not involved in the industry have opinions on this?

It's not about the environment or products, it's about creating useless jobs for useless people. It's essentially Drumpf socialism.
>>
>>126714
Welfare for obsolete corporations so they can hire people is fine.

>Is it not telling that a company who would greatly benefit from continued drilling and oil exploration is telling you not to continue drilling and oil exploration, that something is very awry?

Exxon has invested heavily in wind energy.
>>
>>126694
not at all. you must udnerstand the logic behind it. big oil companies are not that monopolists anymore. there are much more goverment posibilities to control the market around the world and niggers or indios will not swallow the big-oil shit as they did it 50 years ago anymore. not to mention that China and other countries developed new ways to get rid of big-oils influeces.
>>
>>126734
Exxon has invested in a lot of things.

>>
>>126694
No it's telling him to not make waves and help increase the price of oil.
>>
Are People pushing the man made climate change nonsense?
>>
Climate treaty is non-binding there is no requirement to attempt to meet it's measures.

At the end of the day it's better for Trump to simply ignore it. yes it would be funny to trigger the left and repeal it but that would cause tarrifs against our trade.

Best course is to simply ignore it.
>>
>>126782
Try harder
>>
>>126716
Exactly, welfare has to pass through some kikey hands before they reach the people, that's how American (((Capitalism))) works. Now go back to the mine, goy!
>>
>>126782
Eat shit, you fucking crackhead. We're fucking ourselves over by ignoring this. What the fuck do you think is going to happen when 1.2 billion of the worlds poorest are displaced? Think they're just going to roll over and die?
>>
>>126696
>>126694
No, Exxon doesn't give two shits about anything but raising the price of oil.
>>
this made me have a good laugh yesterday when I saw it.

Whatever Exxon's reasoning to get themselves involved, this is a hilarious blow to Trumps idiocy as he's supposed to be pro-business at all costs. We'll have to keep an eye out for any other signs of a wary corporate world.

Yesterday also hospital stock fell when it was revealed paul ryan was still talking about healthcare. This administration being pro-active worries corporations an investors.

>>126785
It's all symbolic, but Trump still wants to symbolically tell it to fuck off. It's not about results, but ideals. Trying to get alternatives to oil or be energy efficient is a good thing no matter if you believe in climate change or not, yet it is so politicized that you have politicians in conservative states trying to tear down alternative energy research or infrastructure that is already established. I could understand cutting them and letting them fail on their own to save costs, but tearing them down to make an ideological stand or spite others is wasteful.

>yes it would be funny to trigger the left
this is exactly what they want you to do: don't bring any critical thinking to these issues and just hate the other guys with a burning passion
>>
>>126694

Yeah, it tells you that the Paris climate deal is cronyist nonsense.
>>
>>127065
Any energy alternatives that are not natural gas or nuclear energy are complete bullshit.

>entire global scientific community:
Here's decades worth of data collected from around the world measuring nearly every ecological and environmental variable and countless scientifically proven hypotheses saying that human activity is causing irreparable damage to the world we rely on
