Venezuela on a diet

Bet you a fiver they would rather those rainforests were farms and pastureland now.

I'm pretty sure the average inhabitant of a poor country spends their money on more necessary things than the ones from rich countries who spend it on "stupid" (check out http://theworstthingsforsale.com for several examples).

Venezuela's problem is that their government didn't make any productive investments (while, at the same, discouraged private investment) and instead used all its oil money on welfare, subsidies, nationalizations, buying armament from Russians and exporting their "revolution".

How about inability to sell oil anywhere after US intervention? Just after a new oil deposits have been found ranking Venezuela near Emirates. Sure there is corruption in V. govt. But that's at most 30% of the problem.

The price of oil being so low has nothing to do with America. American oil companies want to see the price go up just as much as The Venezuelan state-owned oil company does. That way both could frack profitably more often.

This. The US gets pissy when anyone dares challenge their colonialism. They did everything they could to stop Brazil from unifying our countries, and when they failed, look at what happened those last years. Coup in Honduras, coup in Paraguay, media manipulation and the election of a dog in Argentina and finally, coup in Brazil.

The US has been ruining America for decades. The only thing that can help us are GOOD nationalist dictatorships like those on Cuba.
