“All of us must accept our share of the blame for this turn of events. We grew complacent. We made mistakes. At times we tried to do too much, and at others we failed to do enough. We lost touch with many of our people. We have been too slow to recognize and respond to their hardships. We need to face up to these realities, but this does not mean losing hope and retreating. That we must not do.

“Make no mistake, my friends: These are dangerous times, but you should not count America out, and we should not count each other out. We must be prudent, but we cannot wring our hands and wallow in self-doubt. We must appreciate the limits of our power, but we cannot allow ourselves to question the rightness and goodness of the West. We must understand and learn from our mistakes, but we cannot be paralyzed by fear. We cannot give up on ourselves and on each other. That is the definition of decadence. And that is how world orders really do decline and fall.

“This is exactly what our adversaries want. This is their goal. They have no meaningful allies, so they seek to sow dissent among us and divide us from each other. They know that their power and influence are inferior to ours, so they seek to subvert us, and erode our resolve to resist, and terrorize us into passivity. They know they have little to offer the world beyond selfishness and fear, so they seek to undermine our confidence in ourselves and our belief in our own values.

Are you sure he's attacking Trump with this speech? Just from reading those quotes, it sounds far more like he's attacking globalists, or maybe SJW leftists.
>>
>>113049
The link is just for the video of the speech. You can ignore the article.
>>
>>113049
Although it is 100% about NATO. He gave it at the Munich Security Conference and the topic was about whether the West can survive into the future.

Trumptards are incapable of understanding the necessity for multifaceted, complex foreign policy.

If a panel of experts is placed in charge of designing nuanced policy initiative with some long-term strategic vision, trumptards default to suspicion of conspiracy from inability or unwillingness to understand the complexities of the provisions therein.

Why the US sometimes picks and chooses is battles is lost on them. In this sort of worldview, anyone that isn't our friend is necessarily at war with us.

Oh well. Maybe one of those intelligent countries with an understanding of the need for meritocracy and intellectualism, like China, will take up the mantle and lead human civilization next.
>>
>>113194
If the next world order is led by China, I probably wouldn't have too many problems with that.

The reason that the Soviet Union was such a shit-tier world power is that Russians just suck (no offense). Meanwhile, China will eventually be like 10 Japans, except not cucked by the West.

>>
>>113226

>>
>>113207
Just to be clear, I'm a lefty that disagrees with globalism for its own sake.

But sometimes there's a coincidence between national interest and global interest. I'd consider myself a national-globalist.

Like with respect to EPA; something that's going to require substantial trans-national cooperation because ecosystems do not obey political boundaries.
And trade. Sometimes we have to bite the bullet and sacrifice some jobs in one industry if it can be done cheaper elsewhere and focus on investing where we can make a bigger impact in international economy, because if the default is protectionism, then our competition can be more protectionist as well.
And foreign policy. Right now, moreso than any other country, we live in an American world order. Not just because we're the largest economy, but because we helped to rebuild the post-WW2 Eurasia in our strategic interest. We want to maintain the balance of power in every region of the world because if China curbstomps its neighbors into submission or Russia becomes a major hegemon once again, that threatens a world order that in many ways institutionally preferences our country's interests.
Even development aid also has some national interest. When more countries feature a middle class, we have more folks to buy and sell from.

So the dichotomy between globalism and nationalism might be tempting but it's often wrong or at least a serious oversimplification with respect to long-term national interest.

To this effect, many of Trump's policies, though billed as nationalism, just strike me as short-sighted-national-interest-ism, because there is generally no apparent thought given to opportunity cost.

>>
After reading that the only thing I can think of is that the global elites got caught with their panties down, and now are trying to recover control by playing on the publics emotions and paranoia.

They could see the rise of nationalism and contain it. But brexit and Trump were curve balls they couldn't see coming. That has spurred on national/cultural pride in the west and has forced the globalist elites back. When did pride in ones nation or culture become a four letter word?
>>
>>113226
You are missing the point bud, globalism is global co-operation of all people.

Please look up the Battle of Seattle, you underage piece of nothing.

Sometime around WWII.

Nationalism got really crazy in the 19th century and the world wars were the result. So that's why.

The USSR failed b/c Marxism is a failed, naive ideology that appeals to slackers & thieves, & does not survive contact w/ reality, taking millions of innocents in the process.

China has been only getting by b/c they Frankensteined it to some measure of competitive market ventures to avoid economic stagnation, but their bubble will only hold for so long (the whole 1-child policy is also poised to bite them in the ass once their nation turns into a geriatric sausage-fest). Meanwhile, their government is *still* desperately clinging to Communist authoritarianism like a drowning rat to a piece of driftwood (Great Firewall of China, etc), b/c they *know* if they didn't, their control over the people would collapse.

China *used* to have a great civilization, & now you can't even *see* Bejing b/c of the smog that makes LA look like a pristine alpine meadow. = "progress!"

I'm from the USSR, & I was there when it fell. Now all I want for Xmas is for the rest of Marxism to die completely & irrevocably, like the failed experiment that it is.

(P.S. Free Tibet!)

People, if it weren't obvious already, this is a simulation and it's run by a single entity who's job it is to fool itself into thinking it's a bunch of individuals...us. The only thing that makes me mention this here and now, contrary to proper theater "etiquette", is the fact I seriously think we are under attack by a rouge intelligence which uses inverse logic/anti-trust processes to replicate itself across various consciousnesses. It spreads by us being lazy fucks and not educating our own egos on the TRUTH of what is going on. Stop listening to other people just to parrot what you think sounds good. Actually take a walk and think about the things you believe. If you want a little hard on, try sitting quietly for a moment and noting all the BS that your brain barfs up for you to deal with. That shit isn't normal, and technology is making it worse. Stop letting others speak for you or your aggregate, take action by not repeating illogical comments where the can be caught and spread by others.

Unless that's your thing, of course. If it is though, know I'm coming for you.

after nearly a hundred years of mass death, systematic famine, genocide, shortages of basic goods, political repression, military expansionism, slavery, etc. etc. it finally collapsed under it's own weight.

by the way, if you think that the soviet union was just some "poor, persecuted little state :(" you're an idiot. half the world was feeding their people, because the soviet itself was so fucking incompetent as to fail to run BASIC AGRICULTURE TO FEED IT'S OWN CITIZENS.

imagine a system so terrible that it can't do what fucking feudalism could do by the year 500. that's soviet socialism.

no joke, communism is such a bad system that the people would be better off under a monarchy.

>we cannot allow ourselves to question the rightness and goodness of the West

Fuck you old chicken hawk
>>
>>113396
>old chicken hawk

McCain's a regular ol' classical interventionist cold-war-style hawk, but definitely not a chicken hawk -- he and many of his kids are/were all front-line military.

Classical interventionism ignores real-world history and data. Offshore balancing is data-driven and was the general policy guiding much of the Obama administration, though that's hard to do when other countries have their own agendas in Libya and Syria, and when the drone program proved to be a political shitstorm both home and abroad.
>>
>>113047
McCain needs to figure out what side he is on. He clearly tries to fuck Trump ever chance he gets. Either figure things out or get out of the way. His past leadership was ineffective, and he has constantly failed to step up for what was right.

Trump is the president and no matter who's feelings that hurts we all need to either be quiet and give the dude some time to work on things or actively seek positive influence on the process.....

Words, are meaningless without works. See Obama, the truth was not in him.....i have been continually dismayed by McCains' eccentric nature.....

I honestly don't give a shit about what happens to foreigners. Let Russia have Europe and the Arabs, and let China have Asia. Why should we spend money helping other states? If they can't defend themselves, then they deserve to be taken over.
>>
>>113472
>Let them have our global responsibilities.
That's what isolationists said before WWII. World events always have a way of knocking on our door any time we try to isolate ourselves from them. It didn't work then, it won't work now, and it will never ever work.

If you really want things to go your way (and believe me, we do) you need to lead if you have the ability to do so, even if it's more work in the end. It's our choice to make.

>>
>>113519
>Let Russia have ... the Arabs
I don't think you know what you're saying. Your own standard of living heavily depends on America's longstanding partnership with Arab countries. It's just a good thing that people like McCain are in charge, and not people who think like you. There is a good reason for that, too.
>>
>>113297
Nationalism was a tool used by elites to convince the peasants to go off and die/murder in the millions for a new beachfront for their summer palaces. It was one of the huge contributors to the World Wars, and was used throughout the Cold War to whip people up into a frenzy for war. Nationalism is not the answer if you want to wrest power from the elites because it is just another tool for them. What's worse is that it incentives them to try to fuck each other over through wars of conquest, which would be apocalyptic in a post-nuclear world. Guys like Putin are who use and benefit from nationalism.

Not saying that globalism is good either; it's a completely separate sack of dogshit, but at least it incentives major powers not to nuke major population centers.
>>
>>113523
Why is that a bad thing?

Fascism states that peace is a lie and should only be used to prepare for the next war. War makes a nation strong and spoils from conquest are the best fuel for growth.
>>
>>113526
>Nuclear war
>Why is that a bad thing?

"Three cheers for the war. Three cheers for Italy's war and three cheers for war in general. Peace is hence absurd or rather a pause in war."

"Above all, Fascism, in so far as it considers and observes the future and the development of humanity quite apart from political considerations of the moment, believes neither in the possibility nor the utility of perpetual peace. It thus repudiates the doctrine of Pacifism — born of a renunciation of struggle and an act of cowardice in the face of sacrifice. War alone brings up to its highest tension all human energy and puts the stamp of nobility upon the people who have the courage to meet it. All other trials are substitutes, which never really put a man in front of himself in the alternative of life and death."

"War is to man what motherhood is to a woman. From a philosophical and doctrinal viewpoint, I do not believe in peace."

"For Fascism, the growth of Empire, that is to say the expansion of the nation, is an essential manifestation of vitality, and its opposite a sign of decadence. Peoples which are rising, or rising again after a period of decadence, are always imperialist; any renunciation is a sign of decay and of death. Fascism is the doctrine best adapted to represent the tendencies and the a people, like the people of Italy, who are rising again after many centuries of abasement and foreign servitude. But Empire demands discipline, the coordination of all forces and a deeply felt sense of duty and sacrifice."

"We declare war against socialism, not because it is socialism, but because it has opposed nationalism.... We intend to be an active minority, attract the proletariat away from the official Socialist party. But if the middle class thinks that we are going to be their lightning rods, they are mistaken."

"War is the normal state of the people."

“It is absurd to believe in the possibility of peace...Fascist education must be education for battle. Fascism believes in sanctity and heroism.”
