Elections in 2020 m8. If anything Republicans are going to become even more powerful in 2018 because of how many Dem seats are up for grabs and Dems do a pretty bad job at voting downballot. 2020 will be a deciding factor. If they have a candidate who can excite like Obama and get enough people to vote (thereby increasing the amount of people that actually vote downballot) we could see a complete resurgence of left policies.

I imagine if Bernie is feeling up for it (pretty fucking old though, but anything is possible) they could rally behind him and he could be the next FDR. Regardless, it's going to be an extremely interesting next 4 years. And in my opinion, a very bad time.

we keep joking about this. several years ago I was travelling through lahore, pakistan and a local friend took me to his village where i met with a soothsayer of sorts.
he made some predictions. If I recall, among them was that the US would soon see its last election. I didn't really make much of it at the time and I don't believe this stuff but recalling it, it seems funnily prescient to think about it now.
He also said pakistan would cease to be a country in relatively short order, and that hasn't happened yet, so maybe he was a bit off
