For Trump supporters, "nationalism" really means "short-sighted self-interest". Practically that decisions made on on the basis of complex economic and geopolitical strategies that have been engineered for decades should be overturned by popular referendum.

Many of these folks believe that the US is secretly omnipotent (but the government is simultaneously hopelessly inefficient) and that all the important policy decisions up until this point in time have been made out of a sense of charity toward non-Americans.

Like the marshal plan was just us doing Europe a favor.
And we haven't been applying tarrifs to anything and everything coming into our country because we feel bad for foreigners and American interests are a lower priority.
