ITT: Post cool switchers, preferably from ALCo (EMD, GE, Baldwin, FM, Lima, etc. are also fine).

Spark arrestor.
Notice that it's at a grain elevator. That powderized shit is highly flammable.
Sorry. Like my steam a little too much.

PRR was the best in the world. Plus I can not wait until my favorite model train company releases the B6. Then I can throw away the junk one.

>PRR was the best in the world.
You're thinking of Penn Central 2bh.
>>1010540
Penn Central was the biggest abortion of a railroad. Period.
>>1010544
>>1010782
It's not Penn Central's fault the Pennsy leadership had been running that railroad into the ground long before the merger, and that the Red Team management fucked everything up once they gained control of PC. The crews on the ground did everything they could to keep the railroad operating during that dark period, and through their efforts Conrail emerged. Just because management turned the situation into a clusterfuck doesn't mean that the railroad itself is undeserving of respect. Also they had a pretty cool logo, all things considered.
>>1011004
I just dislike the NYC. The merger was terrible because Pennsy was stuck in their old ways and the NYC was trying to be progressive during that time. PC was just a cluster fuck of people that hated each other for years and refused to work together for 8 years. Sad but it's true. Pennsy was falling apart towards the end but both roads where strong many years prior. Good thing the N&W didn't have problems like the Pennsy.

Nice shot with the shuttle landing.

an autumn picture. notice the grain doors on the boxcars.
Anyone recognize the locomotive in this commercial at 48 seconds? Looks like some kind of Alco switcher in SP tiger stripe paint, did they film it at some kind of railway museum in SoCal? Also those boxcars look like they're from a museum too.

it's defiantly an ALCO S6. the question is which one is it. I think it is this one, but i'm not certain
>>1024548
I think you nailed it, it's got the same light package and bell placement on the front also same horn placement and separate number boxes. Thanks for the reply.

In areas where sparks need arresting. Yes
I'm kinda partial to FM's although the H10-44's aren't my favourite from that manufacturer.
An MLW (Alco licensee) S4.

they look better with the cab overhang imo.

>Alameda Belt Line
I remember going down to watch their trains go by as a kid. Good memories. You can still see some of the trackage as well as the drawbridge today.
Any hope that rail service will ever return to Alameda or is all that infrastructure just gonna rust away?

These are the same type of train that destroyed the DeLorean in BttF3, right?

Close. OP's pic is an S2, the ones used in the movie were Ventura County rwy S6's.

I was always fascinated by those slanted tenders.
>>1042341
no hope of that.
lots is torn up, and some is paved over.
they re-paved clement last year, putting a new layer of asphalt over the rails.
some of the warehouses by there too have been torn down.
All the track left mainly consists of a little right at the fruitvale bridge, several crossings, and several portions of industrial leads of rail in pavement.
Nearly all the non-pavement with rails sections are gone.
The old naval station also still has pavement with rails.
On the Oakland side of the fruitvale bridge, there is a section of track missing, that disconnects Alameda from the still active branch the UP uses.

Knew a guy who modelled Penn Central only because they were easy to decorate: no masking, just paint black, apply a couple of decals, then weather the f*ck out of it. hehe!
Fairbanks-Morse H12-44. Milw had lots of FM's.

Do you know where this picture was taken?
what makes shunting loco different from regular loco?
>>1058372
Types of engines used and other stuff. A switcher cannot run all that fast, but they can pull a damn track and get it moving quick.
They're great but you don't really see them all that much anymore on Class I's. Shit, you're even seeing geeps fall out of favor and you'll have yards that see all their flat switching done with big six axle units.
What about trackmobiles?
>>1063759
Sure why not.
About the only CPR switcher I like: MLW S-4.
If you have 25 mins to spare i'd like to talk to you about God. Baldwins that is. :^)
Video showing a day of operations on the SMS Lines. They have a large fleet of classic Baldwin switchers. Really neat.

Nice
>>1073248
Very cool. I wish the DS4-4-1000 and the AS616 were being used at tge time of fimning.
North Carolina Ports Railway and the Central Wisconsin Railroad also ran classic fleets from predominently one builder. CWRR i think is gone now or absorbed into something else and it's switchers sent to museums and scrappers.
