the tire pictured the OP is a tire with shitloads of mileage on it. Three thousand miles or so to guess. It is one of the most worn out tires I've ever seen mounted on a wheel.

So either your LBS decided you are a problem customer and fucked you over for the fun of it, or...

Most probably rode over a sharp object. I had a clean cut on my schwalbe for running over a piece of metal

I use nothing but Continentals for years now and have never had anything even close to that happen. I think maybe you got counterfeits and not the real thing, take them back to where you got them and/or call Continental and explain to them that you think you got a counterfeit tire, they'll want to see it and might just give you a genuine replacement for free for your trouble.
