I'an relatively new to biking. I just picked up this bike for $450. How did I do?
>>
not so good
>>
>>990132
/Thread
>>
>>990132
Why? It rides well.
>>
>>990128

you got ripped off. Tires will get more flats and go slow, saddle will be uncomfy, things will wear out faster

But ride and enjoy. If any of the above things upset you don't think cycling sucks, you just need better stuff

A Trek FX series bike would have been better for the $$
>>
>>990154
How much does it really cost to make, also should I get some thickslicks or gator skins? Also the saddle isnt that bad.
>>
Did they give you a rack to hang it on your apartment wall with?

That's probably what that bike is designed for.
>>
>>990180
No, Im thinking about getting one. Is it really that bad? It rides well and I like it. I also get a ton of complements.
>>
you fucked up. enjoy your buyers remorse.
>>
>>990190
Everyone is telling me I fucked up but how did i fuck up?
>>
is an aluminum bike?
>>
>>990195
No its some alloy
>>
you bought a bike so you dun good now just ride it
>>
I would never ride a bike like that. That being said, you didn't fuck up. What matters is in the end is if you'll enjoy and get the most of it.
>>
>>990193
>how did I fuck you
you bought a fixie
>>
>>990193
You only fucked up to the tune of about $150-200. Ride it into the ground, just don't try to spend money to upgrade it. you'll never make it worth it vs buying a bit better bike. In a year or two just accept that this clunker is now your backup/going to a shady place to block up type commuter.
>>
There are a lot of judgemental pricks here. You could've gotten a way nicer bike for the money, but that's an ok first bike.
>>
That's just not $450 worth of bike senpai.
>>
>>990313
Well they were having a sale. The base model was $350 I got different pedals and a different seat. Also keep in mind I live in Manhattan. As for tires are thickslick good tires?
>>
>>990299
Show me a bike I could have gotten
>>
>>990406
Giant escape 3
trek 7.2
>>
>>990404
Wait, you paid $100 extra for different pedals and saddle?
>>
>>990158
>How much does it really cost to make, also should I get some thickslicks or gator skins? Also the saddle isnt that bad.

Oh, okay, so you're trolling. Well meme'd but not really because it's boring

>Everyone is telling me I fucked up but how did i fuck up?
I suspect you're trolling, but I'll bite anyway.

You didn't necessarily 'fuck up', but generally speaking most people on this board would avoid this kind of 'fixie shop' complete bike, because they tend to consist of the cheapest available parts which are bought in bulk by the manufacturer to make these 'cheap' prices possible. They are not meant to last long or offer quality, but rather to serve as default beater to be ridden into the ground and then ditched. It makes little to no sense to upgrade this type of bike, so don't think about it apart from 'next to no wear' parts like saddle etc.

In the end nobody can say for sure if you got ripped off because that is subjective and we (or at least I) don't know what exact parts/frame material was used etc. But it appears that you could have gotten a much better 2nd hand bike for the same money or a little more that would have been a much better deal. But it's still an okay price if the bike you bought is brand new. It looks like it has a Sugino crank, a Brooks saddle and dual pivot brakes, which are all parts you can eventually take over to your next bike if this one is fucked.

In the end nothing matters but your own personal enjoyment and this bike will definitely last you a good number of years, and will even serve as a nice beater after that. So don't worry about money now and just enjoy the ride,

nigga.

Also on a personal side note: It looks fucking hipster-hideous.
>>
>>990128

Gaaaasss.. pipe.
>>
>>990483
Im not trolling Im new to /n/. Should i get a refund?
>>
>>990501

>Sugino crank, a Brooks saddle

toooop keeeek
>>
Why do people spend this kind of money on fixies?

There's so little scope for value for money

There's no mechs, most of the time they only have one brake

There's a ceiling to how much good parts should cost and with a fixie you really should meet it long before $450
>>
>>990541

It's too late my man but if you can you should. You just bough yourself a "basic chinese hipster bait hi-tensile trash" and overpayed 250$ for it. These type of bikes are designed to attract clueless hipsters and than scam them hard with pretty colors.

Not to mention the frame geometry is just horrid and flat bars? is this real life?
>>
>>990547
Well I scuffed it and its a 20% restocking fee. So Ill probably keep it. Is there anyway I can improve this bike?

>>990546
A decent frame is easily more than $450 on it's own, famalam.
>>
>>990551

As pretty much everyone already mentioned. You just can't improve it it will be a waste of time. It will be like adding expensive furniture to a mud hut in hopes to make it better.
>>
>>990551
Get decent tires
>>
>>990554
What are some decent tires?
>>
>>990556

Tires are the least of your problems. You can do just fine with some cheap vittoria's.
>>
>>990547
I called the shop its made frm chromoloy is that good?
>>
>>990563

>oh shit a customer we scammed just called us asking what material it's made of
>tell him it's chromo, hipsters love chromo
>"uh yeah it's chromoly man totally not hi-tensile"

Weigh you bike and tell us what it weighs.
>>
>>990552

The return on a several hundred dollar frame over a $2-300 frame is negligible in the kind of environment a fixie's going to be used in

What the shit fuck kind of retarded bullshit am I reading? As if there's a certain "kind of environment" and as if said environment suddenly nullifies all weight and ride quality benefits of a non-BSO frame.
Go play with your OTS conversion, poorfag.
>>
>>990566
https://www.msccustoms.com/
They say so on the website 4130 chromoly
>>
>>990598

Where are you going to drive a fixie?

In a flat, paved environment, since it's going to be worse than useless elsewhere

The difference between a hiten frame and a chromoly frame isn't going to impact your afternoon bikerides around the park
>>
>>990633
Well I ride on bike paths and in central park.
>>
>>990128
Return it while you can
>>
>>990404
you paid 100 bucks for coloured pedals and a saddle. Bruh you got played
>>
>>990423
the trek is a tier above, but neither of those bikes are 'cool' to the casual rider. He clearly wanted a fixie, but they should be around $250-300 max.
>>
>>990544
What's so funny? Considering the overall worth of the bike these are the most valuable parts.
>>
>>990128
you could've done up a vintage road frame and sourced your own parts for less/same, learning about how bikes work along the way. It would've looked and ridden better than what you have. oh well

Haha these niggas fucked you and all the people you see on here! They probably saw you walking into the store and thought:

Tyrone: "Hmmmm.... my mouth gets watery looking at the juicy hips of this little sucker. I bet he stacked with dead presidents. Come on Jamal bro, let's fuck 'em! Whadda'ya say bro?"

Jamal: "Ah man... mah dick is gettin' tired from slammin' all these motherfuckers. But yea sure, let's get some green my nigga!"

Then they stepped towards you saying:

Tyrone: "Hey ma man. Welcome to Tyrone customs, the hippest bike spot in town. Whatcha lookin' for?"

You: "Uh, I just want something that looks ridiculously retarded and will turn all the heads in my minimalist french movie art class group. It should also hint at my latent homosexuality if that's possible."

Jamal: "Oooooh my man... I think we got just the right shit for you. Take a look at the exclusive Tyrone Customs Homoplex right here. This particular model is a limited edition in 'Pissed-Smurf-Pant Blue' and for you my man... we'll slap on an extra set of blue pedals to go along with it and a cheap Chinese made rat-leather saddle for only 100 $ extra."

You: "Hmm... I think I want to purchase this vehicle sir."

And then Tyrone and Jamal unzipped their cargo shorts and gently inserted the mighty negro penis into your sweet virgin asshole and thrusted you bloody. And YOU liked it. This is why you're here on this mongolian child porn image board, posting about the gas pipe dildo they have left you with, in remembrance of the ecstatic time you had that day in the bike shop. You lucky son of a bitch you. ;^)
>>
They rammed you in the asshole man. The most fucked up thing is that they even charged you an extra hundred bucks for changing the pedals and saddle while even advertising custom bikes for 350. But yeah, it's not as bad as Anons make it out to be. If the bike holds up for a few years, it's okay. If not = lesson learned and next time do some research or better yet build a bike yourself. It's fun and you'll learn a lot of shit.

>>

highly doubt those are brooks. looks like shitty imitation leather.
>>
>>990738
It's obviously not even close to a Brooks and it will not be more than a Sugino lookalike either.

The tires did go flat. I was biking in soho when it happened.
>>
>>993595
Get some decent tires dude, a pair or nice tires will make a huge impact on your ride quality, not to mention puncture protection
I suggest Michelin Pro4 Service Course, at 25 or 28mm thick
>>
>>990740
yeah because trains are so much cooler.
>>
>>993595
Regretting the cash you spent yet?

Not really I get a fuck ton of complements and chicks dig it.

It has clean welds tho

probably sanded down like aventon memes which makes it suicidal on anything but perfectly flat pavement.

How is that legal?

Real reason OP bought his bike for

Please kill yourself desu. Die happy, knowing that you are at least partially forgiven because you didn't fall for the "slam your stem" meme.
>>
>>990404
You paid extra for pedals and they didn't even come with straps.
