Hey guys, I have a question.

My bikes inner tube recently got punctured, the one that it happened to was the standard, came with the bike cheapo inner tube so I'd rather not waste time patching it. When I pulled the inner tube off the wheel, I found the measurements "25 / 32 x 622" on there, and when I googled that it told me to look for a 700c inner tube that was 1 - 1.25 inches wide.
I picked one up and draped it over the tire, because its at least an inch or two too long, and a bit too wide. So I'm at a bit of a loss for what it is I'm looking for, as somebody who is new to shopping for bike tires / inner tubes, any help would be very much appreciated as my bike is my transportation to and from work.

http://www.target.com/p/schwinn-men-s-trailway-28-700c-hybrid-bike-bronze/-/A-15547829

(bqg is auto saging so please excuse that im posting outside of there)
>>
>>988645
common mistake. They appear too long when you remove the tire from the rim, but they aren't. Look up how to change a tube. A bit too wide doesn't matter.
>>
>>988645
Look on the side of your tire. The size will be labeled. Assuming your bike is 700c (the one you linked is) then it will be written as 700x##c or ##-622. That's the number you need. 700c (aka ISO 622) is the diameter, ## is the width. When picking out a new tube, you need the correct diameter, width, and valve stem type (Presta or Schrader). Those are """usually""" all that you have to worry about (I say usually because sometimes valve stem length also matters, and because there are obscure valve stem types besides presta and schrader, but don't worry about that stuff).
The "25 / 32 x 622" tube you mentioned is designed for 700c tires ranging from 25mm to 32mm, so your tires are probably somewhere in that range. Tubes will usually have a range, such as that, since tubes can stretch and don't have to be exact.
>>
>>988645
Oh and, sometimes wide 700c tires are referred to as 29" rather than 700c. They mean the same thing. Both are ISO size 622mm. The bike you linked is 29x1.95" tires. So if you have the same exact one, then look for 29x1.95" tubes (which is roughly 700x50c, but inch measurements aren't always exact). And that's wider than the "25 / 32 x 622" tube you have. That tube could be made to work in a 29x1.95" tire, but it's smaller than ideal.
>>
>>988647
>>988650
>>988651
Thanks for the information, I was worried because they seemed over sized when I just slightly inflated them, but I followed the video I found and the inner tube went in just fine, though my new bike pump also shows PSI and the recommended ranges for the inner tubes, should I really be going to 60 for the hybrid inner tube? I got to like 50 and it became hard to inflate it anymore, and the tire felt completely solid.

Those H+ sons are pretty nice. The velocity deep v's just remind me of the fixie boom 8-9 years ago when everyone had a set of bright anodised ones. I'm sure they're fine rims but I'll always associate them with that aesthetic.

Now that I have the period groupset I'm pretty sure i'll stick to period correct rims, there's plenty to choose from and I need to save up for a while anyway.
My longlist: Gipiemme Tecno 416, Fir Aria/super rialto, Campagnolo Shamal/Vento/Scirroco, Mavic cosmic (if i can find a silver set with the small decals), Araya Super Aero (the vintage ones with the seamless brake track not the ugly remakes).

>>
>>988763
Nope it's a Spanish company called Massi, not the Italian/American Masi. Not very well known but their 90's road frames are pretty good. Mine is filet brazed columbus tubing with pantographed columbus chrome forks. I think they're still making bikes but from what I've seen of them they aren't amazing any more.

>>
>>988673
If the side of the tire says 60 then yeah you can go up to 60. It's not uncommon for hybrids to be substantially higher than that. Higher pressure = less roller resistance, faster. Lower pressure = softer, more comfortable, slower, and more prone to flat tires. I would go all the way to 60, or at minimum 50, and make sure to check your tire pressure before EVERY SINGLE RIDE because tires lose air over time even from just sitting for a few days. If you have trouble pumping past 50 then you probably have a shit-tier pump or a hand pump. Get a decent floor pump.

First ride this morning using clipless pedals (and a new saddle). Clipless is really nice, the biggest single difference I noticed was that riding out of the saddle felt much more natural, but I'm sure I was able to put more power down for the same effort.

Also my new saddle (Fizik Arione VSX) made a big difference in comfort. The saddle I'd been riding on was a womens saddle and caused me to go numb quite quickly. I like that I was able to move around on this new saddle quite easily, and the cutout definitely made it more comfortable.

Yeah, I know- the previous owner was a woman who had an 80mm 60 degree stem on it. The handlebars were way higher than they were ever meant to be on this bike, so when I put the original flipped stem back on it there is a lot of excess, which I plan on getting rid of when I replace the cables.

Everything works fine on the bike currently though, so it may be a while before I bother doing anything with the cables.

I plan on getting a new 105 groupset sometime during the winter probably (whenever I can get it on sale). The 5600 really isn't bad at all though, my only complaint is the lack of reach adjustment for the brake levers. It does have Ultegra brakes and FD though.

Yep, turns out it's not durable for big mountain riding, or probably bikes in general.

Oh interesting, the geo and the forks particularly make it look like a 50's frame. Yeah it's definitely not high end: stamped rear dropout, the lugs and the mitring at the top of the seat stays point to a cheaper bike. Looks like it's in great condition though, seems it's been well looked after.

It's nothing fancy but this was just a fun project anyways. Got the frame for 20 bucks so I can't complain. Besides a bit of cosmetic rust and paint chips it's in fine condition, nothing integrally wrong with it.

The point of not changing the saddle is how unappealing it is.
It's probably my favorite shaped saddle, and being butt-ugly doesn't change how comfy it is.

I do believe he's had a problem with someone stealing it before, not because it's valuable but simply to be an arsehole.

I'm going to assume you don't actually ride with those bars like that, so why the hell haven't you taken a couple minutes to position them correctly? Whilst you're at it flip your front QR to the other side.

Found this in the shed today. Is this a good bike? I know it's really old and what not but if I fix it up and ride around will I get laughed at by people who actually know about bikes?
>>
>>989292
It's a crappy bike, but crappy bikes can still be fun to ride. So I would ride it around for fun if you want, just don't put any money into trying to make it a better bike.
>>

Would you say I should just buy a new one? This one would probably need new tires and I wanted to paint it. But if it's crappy should I just invest in a new bike. I wanted to start riding this summer
>>
How strong a frame do I need to add some stuff for a touring bike?
I have my father's old Motobecane but I'm not sure if that's sturdy enough from what I'm reading. There's no real rust damage or anything, just an old road bike.

I wouldn't put any money into that bike, better to put your funds towards something that comes from an actual bike shop (no walmart or sporting store bike-shaped objects).

>>989300
There are really high-end steel race bikes that have weight limits, but by and large most steel frames have no problem carrying normal rider + cargo loads up to 300lbs if not more. Whether if makes sense to convert that particular frame into a touring bike will depend on whether it has provisions for racks, fenders, and is going to handle nicely when loaded.
>>
>>989348
Oh alright. The stuff I was reading on different racks and bags was acting like the average frame would have stress fractures from the weight of supplies.

1x groups are cheap these days. An NX upgrade kit is €150 and the full group only €100 more. That's retail. Bike manufacturers obviously get it for less, so the actual dollar cost of chosing an NX group with a cheap chainset over something like Alivio 4000 is minimal.
Certainly not enough to stick a Reba on there instead.

Yes. Also called an audax bike, or possibly an endurance road bike if it's going to be overwhelmingly paved.
A cheap new alternative is the Kona Rove Al. Your options are all down to budget and the amount of packing you'll carry. For credit card touring a well dialed in roadbike would be ideal.

too wide for you... maybe anon has a stocky body build and isnt some twig boy.
>>
>>990142
He's obviously not super tall so unless he's unproportionally wide the bar ends would be more comfortable further inwards. If they are in the most comfortable position then when his hands are on the flats they're going to be too narrow.

Most drop bars are in the 40-44cm range and the bar ends are emulating the hoods and so should be closer to the same width. Not quite as narrow though because then the flat position would be too narrow (same reason the flats on drop bars suck) if the bar ends are on the outside. Moving them inboard of the grips gets around this as a wider flat grip isn't as bad.
>>
>>990156
I use bar ends because they give me more leverage while climbing. That's it. If I put them where you suggest I do they won't help me at all. I'm not trying to "emulate hoods".
>>
>>990160
That's fine but then it's not the comfiest setup. Do what you want, I was just offering guidance for a setup that I found to be more comfortable as I thought that was your goal.

Lol what? It came stock with a Judy XC
>>
>>990595
Yeah but that's one of the weird old ones. Having a modern RockShox fork on it looks weird as fuck.
>>
>>990597
So because it looks weird that makes it a troll bike, and the ultimate one at that? You're an ultimate idiot.
>>
>>990597
I would have loved to rebuild the old Judy but it was completely blown and would have cost nearly as much as the newer, better fork I have on it.

Back in to mtb after a few years off due to baby. Needed to clear the baby weight I have put on.
Spent £500 on this and having lots of fun.

Apparently police now patrol on bikes in my area. Was given a warning for pulling a fat manual down a hill on the pavement right past the cops. They gave me a little 'steer clear of cycle offences' card. Apparently a 30 year old should know better. Trouble is the bike makes me feel 12.

What do you think of the bike? Has to live inside at the moment due to psycho neighbour who is pissed I am having him evicted.
>>
>>990852
>What do you think of the bike?
Maxxis rubber, spiky flat pedals, Shimano hydro, wide enough bars, the only Suntour fork to get good reviews - you did good anon!
Keep riding, keep disregarding the constabulary.
Tip though. Bikes are photographed from the drive side to show the drive train. Pedal arms should be parallel to the ground on the forward one slightly raised, valve stems should be in the six o'clock position with caps off and decent bikes should always live insdoors. No matter the neighbours.

Muh DICK!
(btw, those Mikashimas need toe clips)

>>990712
Que?
>>
>>990971
It's missing the strap, mate. Not only it looks like shit but it's also quite dangerous.
>>
>>990996
This. It's also completely useless unless you're a fag who uses the cage without a clip. The clip goes under your shoe. The strap holds it in. The cages only function is helping you get the clip right and holding the strap open. They are not ment to be put under any stress or be used for anything else.
>>
>>989757
Where are you getting this information from?? Please give me a single advantage of having saddle and bars level on a fucking fat bike
>>
>>991000
It having larger tyres is irrelevant. There is a most efficient seat height, too low and you won't be able to pedal well sitting down, and for most bikes that will be level or higher than the bars.

If the height of that seat in the photo is the most efficient then the frame is way too large, the bars shouldn't be that far above the seat.
>>
>>
>>990856
Thanks

Took a more standard photo. Also now got lights, bottle and one of those cats eye cycle comps.

Way to early for a crisis. At least postpone until 30. You have a cool bike, but the gear has to go. Matters of practicality - don't matter.
>>
>>991055
thats the gear set it came my guy and im not learned enough what the real issue with it is. if youd like to explain it im very okay with learning more.
>>
>>990712
looks like a half-clip
>>
>>991061
Nothing wrong with it beyond fashion. The pie plate behind the cassette, cheap rear rack, cheap computer and funny quick release angles look a bit goony. If you care about strangers on 4chan looking down on you for that kind of thing you can fix it or you could just ride your bike.
>>
>>990963
Eh it looks different in different light
>>990971
Christophe clips and straps in the mail as we speak.
>>990996
How are they any more dangerous than being clipped in? I've had cages for a few years now and I've only been frustrated with trying to master the pedal flip
>>
>>991061
You have a nice road bike. Pannier racks have no place on anything but commuter or tourers, and computer have no place on either of those. The rack has to go.
The plastic noob card in the back wheel is a spoke protector in case you klutz up the derailleur limiters and overshifts the chain into the wheel. This kills the wheel. But only a klutz would worry about being a klutz, so if you're not a klutz the dork disc has to go.
Saddle bags are generally frowned upon but a very small and discrete one for a credit card, keys, coffee money and emergency phone _might_ be acceptable, if barely. This should normaly be carried in your jerseys back pockets unless you find that completely unbearable. Your saddle is neither small nor discrete and in no way acceptable on a road bike. It has to go.
Bike bidons are only allowed in the 500ml size on a road bike, unless you're participating in an audax or touring event. And only one may be carried unless it's a 10+ hour ride. It should be carried on the down tube and not the seat tube. Empty bottle holders are strictly prohibited unless you've tossed the bottle before a climb.
The reflector is only acceptable on night rides, must be accompanied by lights and it is improperly positioned and angled in either case. It has to go.
Compact chainset and wide range cassette is a dead Fred/dad give-away and only acceptable if you are mountain climbing. For normal road racing you are expected to get by with 12-25 for your ninespeed setup, at most. The mountainbike cassette has to go.
Like the other anon said, quick releases should be folded in so nothing can snag them accidentaly. The rear on should be folded into the rear triangle, on in under the chainstay if it's an offset lever. The front lever should be folded in just behind the fork, or right along the leading edge of the fork if it's an offset lever. A straight lever may never be folded in along the fork blade itself.

Wear white socks. Not too long.

Troll bike. Shimano 2300 RD, 9speed cassette, Altus II friction downtube shifter mounted on the bar, Acera canti levers, Tektro brakes, Specialized-branded Sugino crankset, 52t chainring, Velo Orange Postino bars, and a Fizik Arione saddle. I think the frame (aluminum) is Nashbar, but not positive. Carbon fork. Rear wheel is Alex A-class with decals removed to say "ASS". Bontrager stickers arranged to say "BONER".

All stuff from around the shop. $3 grips were the only investment on this. It's got 9 speeds, all of them fast, 52x11-23.
