Thought I'd post a thread about this. Didn't take any pics of the teardown, but it was originally equipped with fenders, downtube shifters and 10 speeds. Here's a pic of my brother sanding it.
You can see in that picture that we're working by hand and with a small sander... also the crankset is still attached. A bit later I tried to remove it and totalled the cotter pin on the drive side. Had to grind it off

Here's where I'm at now. Sanding was way too much effort and couldn't get around the lugs. I used a dremel and some sanding thingys to get those. The rest took paint stripper. Did a few coats, letting sit for 30mins each to get to here.
>>987693
Shouldve used the stripper first
>>987695
Haha yeah. I just didn't want to buy any if I didn't need it.
>>987690
nice blog faggot
>>987701
th-thanks. I thought people here would be interested. This board is slow and I wanted to share.
>>987706
desu I am interested to a point, but the bike you picked to restore just doesnt get my mojo going. I will still peak in from time to time as you update your progress.

>headset cups still in the frame
>>987728
I can't get them out! What are you even supposed to do? Anyway I masked them off for the paint job.
>>987713
I found this bike lying around last summer.
>>987803
You need a special tool to remove them.
>>987805
Not really.
Just bash it out with a fatass screwdriver.
And if you destroy it you get to have a new headset like you were supposed to anyway.
>>987690
Post more pictures, Mr. Skellingtong's brother.
Just finished primer.
>>987805
Also I don't own a linear impact device (hammer)
>>988088
You don't own a hammer? What the fuck
>>988085
you might need to go to a shop for a bottom bracket chase and face. You got paint onto the side of the bb shell, and it looks like some paint got into the threads. Should cost you about $20 to get that fixed.
>>988085
>painted over the headbadge
>paint in the BB threads
Can't tell from the pic, but please tell us you masked off the headset at least

A proper headset punch is one of the easiest tools to diy, you just take an unwanted pair of straight handlebars, cut a slot in one end, then spread the halves apart to make the prongs.

>you just take an unwanted pair of straight handlebars, cut a slot in one end, then spread the halves apart to make the prongs.
Doubting this. Do you have any evidence of this being done before on flat handlebars? I can believe a thinner piece of pipe, but what made you come up with handlebars?
>>988134
Not that guy, I think it's possible but why bother? A headset removal tool is like 13 bucks. I spend more on a pack of fucking cigarettes.
>>988118
I masked both those things off. Probably some paint in the threads but oh well. When I do the actual paint I'll mask the bb off better.
Painting now. Still needs a few more coats. I masked off the bb shell better this time. So only primer got inside.

And here's the fork.
Welp. I'm poor and the co-op didn't have anything to convert my wheel to fixed. I'm too scared to suicide hub it, so for now I'm just gonna thread on a bmx cog. When I get some money I'll put on a nice wheelset.
Not familiar with Co ops but you could find a cheapo cassette rear wheel and put a spacer and cog set. I did that instead of buying an entire ss set from an old set I had laying around. Works great
>>988411
I like the colour
>>989547
Yeah. Just gonna keep checking local listings for a cheap set.
Here's the wheelset with some 16T bmx cog. Cleaned them and they look brand new!
Attached the fork. Have a yellow retrospec crankset coming in the mail that I'll put on. Hopefully my measurements of the BB were correct.
