29er just feels clunkier and slower in comparison to 26 I recently got a 29er and after riding some familiar trails everything became much harder (unresponsive) and slower for me. I'm a tall rider (6'1) and fell for the meme because the frame just felt perfect but now looking back I rather ride a smaller 26 again.

If you enjoy your 26 and thinking about getting a 29er don't fall for the meme and try it out first like try it out well not just a few loops around LBS because you are going to regret it when you finally buy it and realize that apart from a bit smoother riding you lose all the agility and benefits of a 26er.

I won't say you're wrong, but i think you will adjust your riding style to where if you might easily make the opposite complaint in a few years.
Well YOU won't complain, because you already have the experience of a 26er, so you will just be able to easier transition between riding styles to utilize the strength of each wheel size.

>in comparison to 26 I recently got a 29er and after riding some familiar trails everything became much harder (unresponsive) and slower for me

I always thought the point of large diameter, fat-tire 29ers was that you just plow through everything, where you would usually be using your brain to dodge roots and rocks

29er is great vs 700c on a touring bike for that reason
>>
>>986827

I fell for it too.

29ers are good for some types of riding - just not most singletrack.

>29er is great vs 700c on a touring bike for that reason

lolwat

it's the same wheelsize your moron
>>
>>986926
>lolwat
>it's the same wheelsize your moron

In that case I'm referring to the *width* not diameter

Although if you're going to get autistic about it wider tires generally have a larger diameter too, you fucking retarded faggot

I upgraded from 26 to 650b and the drawback is a higher center of balance aka less maneuverability and it seems like all the advantages of bigger wheels can be solved with more skillz
>>
>>986929
And all the advantages of more skills can be solved with technology e.i. Bigger wheels
>>
>>986931
But then you have to deal with the drawbacks of bigger wheels
>>
>>986827
29 will feel slower at the same speeds just due to the fact it rolls over stuff easier. I'm tall and if I buy a mountain bike I'll get 26 or 650 because I want the most fun possible not smooth out the trails.
>>
>>986929
The difference between 26 and 27.5 is completely unnoticeable in real world riding. The only meaningful differences between them is component choices and costs.

>>986964
>29 will feel slower at the same speeds just due to the fact it rolls over stuff easier
On the same note the difference will be unnoticeable to most people. What people will notice however is all the downsides to 29, heavier and weaker wheels, less suspension travel, frames with crappy geometry or are too large for smaller riders.

29rs have lower rolling resistance and higher top speed for xc. 26" is used for more technical trails and steep descending. Both are comfortable and handle well if you know how to bike (excluding shitty frames).

You might just need to get better at riding.
>>
>>986967
The difference between 26 and 650b is immediately apparent to people who go fast. I suppose they do feel similar in the parking lot. Get gud.

>>987003
lolno, you keep trying to justify your purchase

what about 29

HARD TAIL

T

Specifically, something like a Kona Honzo. Slack, short chainstays, big wheels, North Shore bred geo. All a very good combination.

You post the same few pics of your $200 bikes, IMBA fireroad, and tell people to get better. You aren't fast, you aren't good, and you aren't in to position to offer advice to anyone about bike riding.

>>987003
Absolute nonsense

650b only exists because people were too ashamed to admit moving to 29ers suck and they didn't want to admit defeat by returning to 26. There's no difference whatsoever between 650b and 26 to the rider if the geo is the same.
>>
29 rolls better

FACT.

Things often feel slower when they make your ride smoother and more in control. For example, short chainstays feel sweet, but most world cup racers prefer longer chainstays because they are faster on the clock.

That being said, I ride short chainstays and 26" wheels because they're more fun for me.
