actually planning to live alone in a van.

my project is based on the smallest promaster available (the 499cm one, featuring a cargo area 267cm L x 187cm W x 191cm H).

living area (200cm L) includes bed+stove+watertanks and storage on the left side, and a fridge+kitchen+storage and folding table on the left side.

toilet+shower+closet/wardrobe room is in the back 67cm area, separated by a thin door. Only two side windows (one near the bed, another near the kitchen) and two roof vents (toilet one and living area one). the corridor area is 45cm in its narrowest point.

A bit on the claustrophobic side, but small (499cm) and totally blendable in every environment.

The shower makes the difference between 'portable house' and 'glorified tent'. They need standing headroom, tanks, pumps, heaters, valves, doors, and everything. Making that fit in a regular van or sub-35' sailboat is a trick but if you do the sponge-bath thing you might as well be camping.
For van-dwelling, consider leveling jacks. Even if the ground is level having it bouncing around when you masturbate (or do anything else) is a pain. Having your wardrobe next to your (chemical) toilet is not going to fly. The stench just soaks in.

What about an old bus converted to a camper?

At least in EU they are pretty easy to drive on C1 license which is relatively fast and cheap to get.
>>
>>987371
My bad, C1 is not good enough as the limit was only 7500 kg. Needs full C then and that really depends on location how much that costs.
>>
>>987359
That looks comfy AF
>>
>>987371
There was just a story of bus campers on the local newspaper. You can get an old bus for couple of grans or less but building it a proper camper may cost tens of thousands. Obviously you can always cheapskate more. I see them pointless for most use though. Because of their size they are clumsy and also expensive to operate.
>>
>>986119
To sleep in, what else would you use it for
>>
>>987909
They are certainly not for everyone, but for those who have the facilities to work with bus components, they offer several attractive features, like having toilet, water and mains electricity infrastructure (with dual batter banks) in place.
>>
Sort of related, but has anyone considered living in an old train? I know some people have, but just curious if anyone here has thought about it.

Can get them relatively cheap, just need land to put it on and some work to make it livable. Sort of like those container houses people make.

I've been thinking of it in future if it's fine to do here.

I would get at least two cars, and put them at a right angle to each other forming an L, and make a connection between them. Between the two carriages you can have like an interior garden.
If you go full richfag you could get four carriages and form a donut-shaped home made of train carriages.

It's a shame I'm not a richfag, someone was selling 2 old motor carriages online. Pic related

Place them side by side, and connect the facing doors with a little bridge for having a smoke or just watching stuff going on.

Though yeah, I'm just wondering how legal that kind of thing is. I live in Australia, and we had to go through alot to build a granny flat out the back. I wonder if they'd even allow this kind of idea.

Consider not installing a toilet, and just resigning yourself to shitting in woods/public toilets. Bringing a chemical toilet with you everywhere is probably more nastiness/hassle than it's worth.

Alex Honnold lives out of a Promaster while travelling around climbing. He bought it relatively recently, after 10+ years of living out of the back of some shitbucket. He made the call to have no toilet anyway, and it seems to work out for him.

In truth I might not like it after a week of dragging it but;
I like the idea of pulling all my stuff instead of having it on the bike

Britbnong here, I've often considered living on the vast canal system up north here, maybe in a small boat or even an old renovated canal boat/barge.

So what's the deal? Is it free, do I have to pay for liscences?
Surely there's gotta be some kind of tax I have to pay, or could I pull the boat up anywhere for the night and do one before the authorities turn up?
>>
>>997865
As I understand it you can tie up for a set length of time, something like 24-48 hours, at no charge as it's a public thoroughfare. Canals near London have a problem where people just live in their boats year-round and swap spots a couple times a week. There was an article about it somewhere but I can't seem to find it.

Here's something similar though: http://www.citylab.com/housing/2015/11/why-i-decided-to-live-on-a-houseboat-in-london/417387/

>People have figured out a way to not give in to the housing Jew and instead of buying an apartment worth over half a million or paying thousands in rent every month they are living on a 16k£ boat in central London.
>We must stop these people living within their means even when city planners/politicians are so far up property owners ass that building new housing is impossible because it would cause the existing properties to not appreciate their value at a ridiculous rate anymore.
Implying there's anything wrong with this. If you don't keep housing affordable people will start looking at ways to get around it. This is entirely self induced problem and the fix to it is to build enough apartments for everyone.

Anyone else living inna stealth van?
Just bought a pic related.
Goodbye monthly rent!
Wish me luck!
>>
I'm tired of my rent eating most of what I earn. When my lease is up I'm strongly considering going innavan. I want a stealth setup. It's between something like this beauty or a suburban or soccer mom van. They're extremely common vehicles here, I figured I could park streetside in any neighborhood and be comfy. I also wanted to put a bike rack on it and continue bike commuting for everyday needs to keep the miles off my van. If I can get a back mounted bike rack and put one of those sports storage boxes on top that would be a fantastic setup. I'm just really fucking tired of paying rent.

How do suburbans and minivans do for /out/ purposes? And innavanners, where do you park? I need to hold a job so it has to be near civilization. I only ever slept innacar on highway 1 in commiefornia for vacationing, and it was hard to find a spot that wasn't barred off after dark.

>>993366

This. cheap gym membership for showers, shit wherever (business, woods, whatever.) Pissjug if you're stealthing or tree if you're /out/. Bonus if you can park somewhere you can leech wifi from.

>>992504

There's not. I've checked it. Reddit is cancerous and shit and that sub is dead.

>>1000138

Seriously. Rent is ridiculous and it's just gonna get more ridiculous. Meanwhile wages are stagnating or outright dropping and there are fewer jobs. I have one job but the rent eats almost all of what I make... And for what, this shitty apartment? Fuck this.

I love in my chevy van

I'm 25 with a job and living with my parents after I finished with university and got a job close to where I used to live. Tbh it's a great deal. The house is big and I contribute by doing chores and other stuff around the house. I save around 800 euros monthly on rent by doing this.

There isn't as much privacy as with living alone but I don't really care about that. And since I don't have a gf it isn't a massive problem anyway.
>>
>>1017856

>just assuming everyone has supportive parents

Mine are abusive drug addicts who live in a povertous county with nojobs. Nah. I'd rather a van if I had to choose.
>>
>>1017891
Wasn't really trying to tell you what to do. I kinda assumed you'd do that if it was a possibility. Just shared what I've done about high rents for shitty apartments.
>>
>>1017891
Sorry to hear that anon ;_;
Hope it works out for you
>>
>>1017943
>>1017985

Yeah it's fine. I just get snappy. Advice is always "live with family or friends lol."

Vanlife looks more and more appealing every day. It would also kill my 4chan addiction. Turns out despite making 12k a year I don't qualify for deferred or income based repayment on my loans...I need to talk with them but shit. I may not have a choice soon.

I'm pretty sure I can get away with just parking streetside. It's that kind of area. Plus I can /out/ in it.
>>
>>1017612

Alright, I am pretty well set on buying my minivan and moving into it. Just gonna run this by here so if anyone realizes something I missed that will end with me dead, we can get that out of the way now. Winter is coming, we get fairly but not brutally cold, and there is snow.

I'm going to get a planet fatass membership for 10/month for showers. I will continue bike commuting, and simply move the van to a new location at night to avoid suspicion. I can fit all my shit and a sleep area and bike inside the minivan, I am pretty confident, after I rip out or stow all the seats (is it a bad idea to trash the seats? I have no means to store them, $2500 minivan). But I'm not sure if I can get a second bike for winter then. I plan to scout out neighborhoods by bike, including during night, over the next two weeks to get a damn good sense of where I can park, but it seems parking near an apartment building that has streetside, no-permit parking is the most ideal and standard single family home neighborhoods secondmost ideal. The walmarts all have no-park regulations because people were abusing them.

I'm going to eat no-cook no-fridge foods and just eat out more, which I wanted to do anyway. There will be no power system inside, I have powerbanks I will charge during the day. I am going to order another laptop battery so I can watch animu by headphone innavan. I also have a kindle for books, and need a low-level long-battery lightsource.

For condensation I thought about hanging towels over stuff to absorb moisture, and laundering the towels. I do not know how to air out my sleeping gear (needs it now and then) unless I clean the doors well and hang them over the open van doors.

Not sure what to do if I get snowed into the van. We get over 1 ft sometimes. I could borrow a shovel from someone or wait for it to melt. 1/2
>>
I plan to use a combo of shading stick-ons, cardboard, fabric, and insulation to have a cozy warm back of the van. There will be an insulated privacy curtain between the front and back, and the front of the minivan will remain as normal as possible. My crap will be kept in appropriately sized cardboard boxes. I will sleep on something raised, an army cot if I can find one that lets me put shit under it. I have /out/ gear for warm sleep'an. I can get ventilation during the day and use laudromat services.

The only other issues are getting a mail forward service, and figuring out toileting. Pissjug sure but what if I need to shit in the middle of the night? I guess if grocery stores are open I can walk/bike to one to yeah and grab food too.

I'm increasingly not seeing any downsides to this. If anyone else sees something I missed please point it out. I've read a lot of build blogs/videos from innavanners and think I can fit out the minivan well enough. Not sure I can remove the seats on my own, lack of tools, may ask previous owner to help or get a mechanic. There will be no wifi innavan, just phone data, I can use coffee shops and libraries for wifi.

This way I can use what I earn for me and stop forking over all of it every month for rent. I can even get my student loans paid off and rebuild my savings.
>>
you need a porta potty or at least a poo bucket for emergencies.
Heat can be a real problem.
Does it get below zero f where you live?
>>
>>1019011

Sometimes gets below zero but normal winter night temps are around 20. I've gone tent camping in sub zero, I'm pretty confident that I know how to do.

I was thinking those baggies like dog poo baggies. Shit in the bag and tie and toss. Compact, and I mean it's emergency only, I seldom shit at night.

Also might lay a rug and put a metal bedframe in the back (single size) for storage underneath. Unless I want to cut plywood that seems the best option.
>>
>>1019012
Cold is no fun day after day.m install a propex
>>
>>1019876

Nah. I camp in winter and never had a well-heated house in my life, I know my shit, I don't need some pansy ass heater. I just visited goodwill and bought a ton of warm clothes (REI and LL bean brands included). My landlord gave the go ahead to move out and I'm buying my van sometime in the next two weeks, moving in as soon as we get a takeover subleaser.

current list to buy on amazon: tint stickers for windows, mosquito net, reflectix, spare laptop battery. to buy local cgsl/walmart: sun shader for windshield, rugs, cardboard, storage plastic containers depending on what fits after my bed is in, curtains/blankets/sheets, low level click lights.

already have power banks for my phone. Already have assorted cold weather camping gear and super warm sleep gear and clothes. Anything to add to the list?

I want to put up curtains, and also need some clothing to hang. I was hoping to hang the clothes on some sort of rod separating the front and back of the minivan, with a curtain in front so no one can see. Maybe they can add some insulation. I figure an adjustable shower curtain rod, either velcro or superglue or maybe duct tape to keep it up. What do you think? I don't want to insulate the front of the van too much so it doesn't stand out, so I am hoping a curtain system will keep in much of the heat, I think I can rig a setup.

In scouting my city I've found places I could stealthpark and I think I'm good. I have about 4 areas, each providing a dozen spots separated by at least a block. I'm really excited actually. I can fit my bike in the minivan with me, too.

I hated this guy. Always spreading green and socialist memes. Now he's dead. A trauma of my childhood gone for good. I'm happy now.

It's funny because it's like they actively promote keeping them fat.
When I went there they had candy at the desk and pizza days. Fucking joke.

The designated shitting street is a meme on /pol/ and I think started by /int/ in regards to India's feces problem. They literally defecate in the street. The gov has been installing toilets to little avail.

I had to finally stop browsing there. Started watching MGTOW videos and becoming angry . I had never ever heard any anti feminism stuff quite like that before and fell too far down the rabbit hole.
I decided to take the blue pill and stay the fuck out there for a while until I forget about all that shit.
