I can't make up my mind. The CAAD 10 is from 2011 SRAM Force for 1500$ CAD and the CAAD 12 at around 2200$CAD. What would you recommend as a first serious road bike?

Get something with disc brakes.

>10 speed for $1500
lol
>>981717
What would be a better price? CAAD 12 worth it?
>>981715
>tfw I got my 2014 caad10 105 for $1100 at the end of 2014
>>981739
I just feel that 2200$ for a bike is super expensive and I'd be better off buying one used. Trouble is that all CAADs in my region are not my size
>>981716
don't listen to this guy
>>981754
Then would you recommend buying a brand new CAAD12? I hear everywhere that it's the best aluminum bike ever. Just wanted to know if it's worth full price
just build a chinarello
>>981757
get whatever has the better groupset, if you got 2200 to spend look for a used carbon bike with a decent groupset, like slightly aged ultegra/dura-ace
>>981759
I just can't really speak on sram because I swear by shimano
>>981759
Isn't the frame the most important aspect of a bike? You can always change your groupset but you are stuck with the frame. SRAM Force is equivalent to an ultegra but it's 5 years older. I want to buy an aluminum bike and carbon is not an option.

Well... yes, maybe. It's also a meme and there are lots of great aluminium bikes. It's worth it but it's not the be all and end all.

$2k
For 1.5k fuck a used 10 speed caad10, that's crazy.

Both very good bikes for $1500. Don't spend 2k if you don't want to and don't only look at CAADs used. You should be able to get a reasonably comparable used bike for 1k

The problem with the CAAD12 at full price is that there's some decent garbon that you can often find at nearly the same price point, like the Bianchi Intenso, Cannondale Supersix Evo, Trek Emonda S (or even SL), and BMC SLR02.
One of the things about buying towards the middle and end of season is that the bikes that MSRP for over $2K often get nice discounts, due to it being harder to sell them.

>there's some decent garbon that you can often find at nearly the same price point
How's that a problem? The question is if that's any better. "Better because carbon" is not a rational argument. Not all carbon frames are better than a typical aluminium frame - and certainly not one of the best aluminium frames there is and ever was.
1500 is way way too much for a 2011 CAAD10
The later iterations of the CAAD10 are better than the early ones and they go for like 800-900 mint
ps- I have Sram Force and its the shittiest groupset I've ever had.
Get the CAAD12 with Ultegra.
>>981757
I had a CAAD10 too btw
Great frame but the stereotype that aluminum is harsh is kinda true, I'd feel pretty beat up on it after about 40 miles, my roads are super shitty though. If you have nice roads to ride on it'll be fine.
The later CAAD10s like '14, '15 could fit 28mms, the early ones have issues fitting even 25mms with some people
What's so special about CAAD frames compared to the umpteenth millions equivalent bikes you can find with an alu frame/carbon fork combo?
>>981884
Much better than the masses, pretty much comparable to the other top al offerings.
They made the first mass produced al bikes in the early 80s and they've made great ones ever since- props also to klein. They bought the material back into popularity with roadies when most people, and companies, had written it off in favor of carbon.
Cannondale is basically the aluminium cartel.
>>981884
I don't think there is a great difference between something like a CAAD10/12 and a specialEd allez or aluminum Giant
they're about the same price and CAADs and they are the lightest aluminum frame you can buy, so naturally people want whats 'best' for the money.
I had a lowish tier Fuji after I got rid of my CAAD10 and the frame was heavier but it was far more comfortable.

I got my 2015 caad 10 Ultegra for $1100 in late 2015.
