What if we just kill everybody in Scarborough?

That would probably solve all of Toronto's subway problems.

Draw some fucking tram lanes you spastic fucks.

Getting niggers to sit in the back. This we need.

BUILD
MORE
SUBWAYS

Your system is fine. Try living elsewhere for a while and you'll realize your complaining is embarrassing us all.

I... im in scarborough.....
>>

I was born in Scarborough

Clearly the only solution is to fire every TTC worker and replace them with droids

Hold up you're not done
Add to that napalm firestorms in Peel and York Regions and then everything's solved forever

Woburn reporting in

>tfw live close enough to STC so that even the subway extension isn't a total fuckup for me
>>
Can someone explain to a non-resident of Canada what the issue is?

Why is Line 3 built as a LRT instead of subway? How difficult would it be to convert?

Same area reporting in

>tfw use the 54 to get to Lawrence East
>tfw no more Lawrence East
>tfw have to use the 102 to get the the Subway
>tfw have to use the 9 to get to STC

FUCK.

Line 3 was originally going to be an actual LRT line when it was first conceived in the 70's. However along the way the province was developing its own ICTS rail technology and needed a place to showcase it. Through some political blackmail the Province strong armed Metro Toronto and Scarborough into using the Provinces trains. Admittedly Scarborough was either going to take a Subway extension or the provinces stuff, the idea of an LRT was never popular. (Scarborough is its own worst enemy).

Conversion to a new system has never been easy since the SRT uses what is now known as Bombardier ART, these trains operate in many cities and is distinct in that they use Linear Induction Rails as its means of propulsion. This also makes the system completely incompatible with the rest of the Subway, toss in the fact that the SRT uses standard gauge and has tighter curves makes conversion to Subway impossible. So now we come to the problem. To convert the system over to an actual LRT would require the SRT to be closed for at least 5 years as they redo the tracks, install the catenary, renovate the stations and extend the line by 3 stops. However you can extend the Subway without having to close the SRT since the Subway would run on a different alignment. Even then building the Subway is far more expensive even if it avoids the closure, especially now since we have found out the the Subway expansion would require a deep bore.

And don't forget the subway extension will only yield ONE station due to Tory's "SmartTrack" plan will probably make the extension somewhat redundant

Also of note is that the SRT when built had consequences that reached outside of Scarborough and specifically towards Etobicoke in the west end. Originally the Scarbrough LRT was supposed to be one of 2 LRT lines built in the 1980's, the other was the Etobicoke LRT. The Etobicoke LRT was to run from Kipling Station to Pearson then York University. All that exists of the ELRT is an unused platform and track bed opposite the bus terminal at Kipling Station. The ELRT was dropped because of the Scarborough LRT being changed to what it is today. Etobicoke essentially got the rug pulled out from under them and today it is still a wasteland for public transit imo.

Also Kennedy Station (the starting point of the SRT) was already under construction when the Province pulled its shit. So at Kennedy on the SRT platform you can see the original low platforms that were meant for the LRT as well as a turning loop at the west end of the station. The turning loop itself was used briefly by the SRT however the province vastly overstated the truning radius of the vehicles so derailments were common, (i.e the province believed a 2/4 car train of 40 foot cars could actually make it through a loop designed for streetcars).

SmartTrack is pretty much a non-issue now since it pretty much doesn't exists save for 6 stations. It will still operate as GO RER and operate at GO RER's 10 minute headway's. Essentially the Subway is competing with GO RER at this point. That being said since we avoided the station at Lawrence East due to ST it also stands to reason that the Subway should not be extended north of STC since ST/GO RER will serves Sheppard at Agincourt and a new station will be built at Finch. The most recent report about the SSE says there is no benefit to the STC station having a north/south alignment and it should instead have an East/West alignment for a potential extension into Eastern Scarborough.

Why is McCowan Road always so congested with traffic relative to other similar streets nearby and yet the 129 bus is always empty?
