I don't think enjoy is the right word, but it was better than driving. Took it from Oakland to Sacramento in 1hr 45min. Took me close to 4 hours driving last time because of traffic. It was reasonably comfortable, had free WiFi and had a full bar.

I travelled in one of those new trains only once, from Essen Hbf to Münster Hbf a few months ago. It was a very pleasant ride, but the interior smelled very "new", like plastic and rubber.
>>945868
The smaller railway enterprises are usually much more reliable and the stuff is so much more friendly.

Pic related is one of the trains of the RE 70 line which I use at least once a week. It's awesome. Much better than the DB RE 6 which serves part of the same route.

I once took a train from Canterbury to London and back. I remember I was really sick and the air conditioning was so cold, noisy and made lots of wind in the cabin. I did not enjoy that.

You seem to live around where I used to live (Bad Oeynhausen). I have to drive the RE6 from Düsseldorf to B.O. for 2,5h and I can't really complain, other than that it is pretty full when taking it at the wrong time (weekends or rush hour and football games).
Drove RE70 from Bielefeld once, it is a really nice train.

I see TGV's rushing by every hour on my window. Mine are from Thalys tho.

Should've mentioned: That's VIA 14, The Ocean, leaving Halifax for Montreal. Took that train to Quebec city in February. 17 Hours from Halifax to Sainte-Foy station. Fun as fuck, though, because I had a few friends with me. I remember I was in the first car behind the baggage car, my seat would have been in the third window on that car, it can be seen in my pic above.
>>
>>945999
I want to ride a 17 hour train ride. I doubt such a thing even exists here
>>
>>945999
I'll also mention that they were using one hell of a longass consist. The Ocean is usually around 24 cars long, with a stainless dome car on the end.
>>946001
If you have a bunch of friends and a car to yourself, (Or with the rest filled in by college students, like I did), you'll have a shitload of fun. If not, you might find it a little tedious, but it depends on the person.
>>
>>945912

I'd rate the 375's as decent, most of the bombardier stock in the SE are the best we have to offer as far as commuter rail goes IMO.

The air con on the javs could be considered cold in as far as it works properly and the trains are nice and cool, but noisy, windy and motion sickness inducing? Nah, I don't think so, ditto the electrostars desu senpai.
>>
>>945906
>The smaller railway enterprises are usually much more reliable and the stuff is so much more friendly.
You're still at the mercy of DB Netz and their piss poor maintenance record though. Who was the idiot ho decided to let DB buy up half of Europe's freight network while their network collapsed in from deferred maintenance?

Some east german branch lines run them still.
>>946796
Lacks the comfy front seat view though.
>>
>>946743
That looks cool as fuck, but also seems a pretty dumb concept. If you have a low-traffic line, you don't need double-deck cars, since you can just couple to single-deck cars together. And if demand is low at times, you can just run one single-deck car, but with the double deck car you'll be still carrying that extra weight even if demand is low.
>>
>>947529
>since you can just couple to single-deck cars together.

that's the point of anything double-decked (buses, trains, planes, whatever). You have the capacity of nearly 2 single-deckers while you take care only of one car, 2 cars = 2 times the expenses for their maintenance
>>
>>947529

Meh. Most uncomfortable seats in a high end train ever. Also, why bother having the fastest "traditional" train, when you dont have any tracks to run it at anything resembling speed? Graz to Vienna is a nightmare.
>especially in first class
Oh, ok, maybe its better in first, but 2nd (or rather "economy") has shitty seats. Also, only "Großraumwagen"
>>947192
>The taurus is one sexy beast
But yeah, that machine is sexy.

Personal favorite:
There are still some backup IC's in Germany, where they just use really old first-class rolling stock with a new painting. Plushy, springy chairs, where you can just turn the whole compartment into a large bed. Totally comfy, and way better than the modern ones.

>>

I think its to increase reliability or speed, or to do with needing to go back and forth on one line

they were built for freight back in the 60's so it can't be to do with needing more power, 4 cars for a class 37 would be like hauling feathers

Nope, they only run with one loco now, the DBSO mentioned earlier is on the other end now. It's a passenger carriage with driving controls at one end. They ran with two locos initially as the DBSOs were being refurbished.

You have to think about is so that these locos and old carriages have already amortised their acquirement loans in 40 years of freight/main line passenger service, so what they are doing now is incredibly cheap as far as equipment is concerned.

I sure do love the Ashmont–Mattapan High Speed Line in Boston, that amazing HERITAGE line run by the MBTA. Look at this beautiful HERITAGE rail vehicle they use. It's the only type of vehicle running on the line, and having them does a really great job of preserving the line's HERITAGE. It's actually a very rare example of a non-street-running light rail system in the USA to use HERITAGE equipment.

You seriously think railjets are more comfy than that?
>>
>>951666
Did you ride it?
I think if I'm ever going to visit london I'd really nlike to go by Eurostar. But I guess it's probably expensive as fuck.
>>
>>951727
I'm sorry, did you say HERITAGE?
>>
Also one of these. Queensland Rail might be utter shit but as long as you stay away from where the pantograph is, they have soft seats, a smooth ride, soft lighting and carpet

Using a public (or even hotel) washlet is one of those things you think about for a while. The spray head might clean itself but during its lifetime, at least one person has taken a shit on it
Even with the toilet sitting between Green and Gran being equipped with a decent one and its users being more uppity, I wouldn't risk it

I think so. Don't try to label it as such on its Wikipedia article. For some reason, there is a squad of assburgers monitoring that specific article preventing anyone from editing it and adding that word to it.

Yeah, because there's totally enough room in a small tram to fit a Wheelchair lift.

JR-west's local train in Osaka.
I love its appearance, but seats are f。ck'in hard.JR-west is shinkansen500series's father. They design trains so cooool.

Its the same as with airlines. for shorthaul, I can deal with shitty service and no legspace, but longhaul? fuck no. though, to be honest, Austria doesnt really have any long distance trains.

Again, there are some oldies that beg to differ:

Those plushy, ultraspringy seats…
However, in summer they become fucking hot and/or deafeningly loud, when you open the windows.
But on the other hand, the seating arangement allows for the occasional pantie peek, so I guess its quite OK.

Yeah that's the one. The press made a scandal out of nothing though since the RFF (now SNCF Réseau) knew about the problem from the time they ordered them and already had had teams working on adjusting the platforms.

25 kV AC EMU, serving Paris Saint-Lazare railway station (western area, mainly communter trains) since 1976. Has an unique sound, the seats are pretty comfy, large windows and the ride is smooth considering the age of the train.

Depending on architecture, it may be one pantograph per motor car, or even one per motor bogie
>>
>>953882
In france is usual to rise both pantographs while braking or starting to move. This let the train take/give more energy from/to the catenary

This.

Most older trains tend to have one pantograph per motor car while newer train just have one pantograph for the whole train (well in France most of them have two pantographs, one for 1.5 kV DC and one for 25 kV AC).

For example, the ugly EMU that is replacing the ones I posted first, pic related
