Yes, they renamed it the "Elizabeth Line".
It's going to be weird seeing it on a map as just "Elizabeth" unless they keep the line part. It's going to be awkward either way.

Basically they're doing what the French did in the 60s and connecting commuter railways on the edges of London and connection them with a big ol' tunnel under the city.

The problem with a terminal station is that trains leaving will block trains from entering it and vice versa. You can schedule trains to never meet at such sensitive places, but it is hard with a busy station. Delays can grow rapidly.
What London does is to move the terminals for the commuter trains outside the city. By spreading them out, the conflicts become smaller and more manageable.
A train entering London in one end becomes a train leaving on the other.

Crossrail may seem like an exciting and modern project. In fact despite being a success it is essentially a failure. Why is it a failure? Because it was thought of in 1948, and it is only going to be ready in 2018. That's right, it has taken 70 years of failure until finally opening. It's not as if it has been an idea for 70 years either, there have been countless attempts at creating rolling stock and other stuff in that time, all failing. This is probably why they are now branding it as the Elizabeth Line, to remove association with the 70 year streak of slow progress and failure that was Crossrail.

Yeah but Churchill has routinely been voted the greatest Briton of all time.
That said they should really name a line after Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
Imagine three new lines all named after him.

What's annoying is people generally know nothing about Churchill other than he was Prime Minister during the 2nd World War.
Brunel deserves to have those lines named after him far more than Churchill...
